Purposefully held over to take full advantage of next generation PC graphics cards and the new consoles, this latest sequel in the Unreal Tournament series is looking to set new standards for multiplayer first person shoot `em-ups. Considering developer Epic Games' Unreal graphics technology is used by so many other companies you always know a new Unreal Tournament game is going to look good. There's tons of new features beyond just eye candy here though, including a whole new game mode called Warfare, which works like a combination of the existing Assault and Onslaught modes, with more involved mission goals that make team play absolutely essential to success.As you'd expect there's a hanger full of new vehicles and weapons including some nifty hoverboards for when you're just on-foot and a number of new robot mechs for you to drive; all with varying numbers of legs including tripods and four-legged walkers. The enormous Leviathan tank is particularly impressive, with four independently manned turrets and a giant energy weapon. Considerable work has also gone into providing the game with a decent single player mode, never one of the series' highlights, with newly improved artificial intelligence that allows you to simulate a multiplayer game properly even when you're playing on your own. User created modifications (mods) will also continue to play a hugely important part in the game's success with the game shipping with a new version of the Unreal Editor for both PCs and consoles. After a quiet 2006, it seems like 2007 is going to be the best year ever for PC gamers.

I have purchased this from Asia with English instructions, so why we have to wait in the UK until March I do not know.
The game plays very fast and the graphics are fantastic. The Campaign, or solo game is just to get you used to the basics of the online game. Although there is a story line this is just a movie and then you fight a version of the online game against AI bots which does not really have anything to do with the movie. Although this is a good way to learn the game before going head to head online.
I thought I would have issues going online as this has not come out in the UK but loads of servers and no issues, not sure if they are PC players I am playing against.
There is already a new map developed by other players which you can download and add to your PS3. Only issue is that you have to download onto PC and then transfer to memory stick to upload to PS3. Tried it and it is easy and simple to do. This means more maps can be designed by players for players, fantastic.
Weapons are great and you can turn up or down the gore which is good.
Highly recommended game.

According to wikipedia and other sources, the PS3 version of this game will support not only mouse and keyboard input, something a lot of gamers have been pining for on a console for quite some time, AND making real use of the sixaxis controller, but it will be possible for maps made for the PC version to be compatible also with the PS3 version, and other mods such as UT's trademark "mutators" too.
Only time will tell if all of this is indeed true, but if it is then I predict the PS3 version and all it allows the user to do will give Microsoft a little wake up call towards their anti-user friendly standpoint.

My previous review of this game (which I've now deleted)stated that this game wasn't worth buying because of the many bugs present in it.
Subsequently I've discovered that the 'Lost Connection' errors I was getting weren't actually down to the game but my router itself. I used to only be able to play for maybe 5 minutes before it would throw me back to the main menu and tell me I'm not signed into PSN when I knew I was. After 2 weeks of complaining and 2 emails to Midway I eventually traced the problem back to my router's firewall. For some reason this was confusing the game into thinking I wasn't connected to PSN when I was.
Nevertheless, on disabling the firewall I am now able to play the game trouble free and have not experienced any problems since (I do still have hidden SSID, WEP security and MAC address filtering enabled so I'm not completely without any form of security).
Graphically brilliant, fast and frantic, this game is everything I expected from a UT game. If you want fast paced shooting then you can't get better than UT3. I've been a UT fan since the very first one on PC and I love everything about it. If you're more of a measured, calculating gamer that likes to use a lot of strategy in their shooters, then maybe this won't be your thing, CoD 4 would probably be better for you, provided you don't already own it but if you're more of a twitch shooter then this game will suit you down to the ground.

I'm new to the Unreal Tournament series of games having never really got on with FPS games on PC so I am over the moon with how good UT3 is for the PS3.
The one player campaign is ok but after a few missions in I gave up and jumped online. First, getting into an online game is incredibly easy and I have never waited more than a minute. Second, the online games are intense and have you sitting on the edge of your seat.
Naturally, it is an incredibly high standard online so I'm still getting whooped but it still doesn't stop me from playing for hours.
Overall, absolutely great but only buy it if you have your PS3 online.

This is an awesome game. It is great fun as a single player game & online is great aswell.The graphics are good & the gameplay is exceptional. i recommend you buy this game.
