Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell: The most exciting Formula One season for a long time has spawned a console simulation to match with long awaited new online modes and some surprising PSP connectivity optionsa The lowdown: Owning the official FIA license means this game is the only one with all the real 2006 drivers, cars, teams, circuits and rules – but thankfully there’s more to this game than dull simulation. In fact this year’s iteration prides itself on being accessible to everyone with scalable driving aids for every skill level. There’s also a new online version for all versions, where you can compete in a full 18 race season with real human opponents. Other welcome new additions include taking the options of playing as chief engineer through the existing career mode and more subtle change such as computer driven cars that make believable mistakes instead of just robotically keeping to the racing line. Most exciting moment: Since the PS2 and PSP versions are coming out at the same time you’re able to transfer data between each, you can even race other players online on the other version, no matter which console they’re playing on. Since you ask: Although little is known about the PS3 version of the game so far Sony has demonstrated a way to connect the PSP to it and use the portable console as a fully interactive wing mirror – displaying exactly what is going on behind you in full 3D. The bottom line: The PS2 and PSP are in pole position for this welcome racing update. HARRISON DENT

This is simply amazing! July 30, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I'm not sure why everyone is so negative...As a hardcore F1 fan i think this game is actually amazing! The way they have made everything so realistic and actually do a proper race weekend...Its incredible realisim...For people who say its hard without the assits, its not hard you just have to learn how to drive it doesnt take long! with the assists turned on all you have to do is press go, which in my eyes is incredbly boring!
The carrer mode is exelent, where you start off with a few trials for lower classed teams then you work your way to better teams and up the championship...
In my eyes this game is the only reasen i want a ps3, as i am a 360 owner...but i play this alot round my mates.
5/5
Very very impressive May 19, 2007 12 out of 17 found this review helpful
A lot of people give this game a hard time, which I cannot understand why. They say it does this and that etc, but until you give it 5 minutes and actually take a look under the bonnet, then and only then will you appreciate it for what it is.
Graphically its outstanding, without a doubt, and anyone who says its not is not giving it an un biased opinion. I am not a F1 fan at all, does not interest me, but I like driving games, and as a driving game its spot on.
Its not motortorm, this is a different game, but when your on the starting lane, press the rear view camera from your car, you see the heat haze from the engine, distorting the image, realistic , very.
You can customise just about everything, from the amount of damage to the driving aids, so you can have no driving aids, full damage, and if you crash then you crash and thats it.
The red on Scumachers ferrari, even mirrors the track side objects as you drive round, very very impressive to watch.
Driving in the rain, and the rain effect, has to be the single most impressive graphics effect I have ever seen in 16 years of gaming, its simply stunning.
If ytour not a driving game fan, then it won't appeal, but if you are then its a right result, and all for just 30 quid.
Best F1 game since F1 97 July 15, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have played many F1 games through the years, from the first F1 game on the PS1 through to F1 2006 on the PS2, the pinnacle of F1 games has been F1 97, even through the PS2 era, not one F1 game on the PS2 came close to it, now thought we have the the first 'next gen' outing on F1, to appreciate the graphical brilliance you must have a HDTV, but that is not essential.
You have the usual racing modes in the game 'time trail, single race, championship) but also a career mode in which you must take trails with the like of Super Aguri and Torro Rosso, if you are successful you will then become a 'test driver' in which you must test out various settings on a car and beat the lap times to succeed, if you do then you have a chance to be the 2nd driver and prove your worth, from there on its all down to you how far you go.
The game also features an online mode where you can raise against other racers online
The gameplay is excellent, you can customise virtually anything in the game, from weather conditions to breaking aids, each car is different, the Super Aguri struggles to get into top gear where as the Ferrari does so with ease, you even control the pit crew when you enter the pits
The weather effects are jaw dropping, when it rains you can hardly see what is happening on the track infront of you as the water blurs the full screen, you have to see it to believe it and the crash damage is fairly accurate too, getting round Monaco in one clean lap is very hard
a couple of small downsides, no safetycar (although every other flag situation is in the game and the commentary is a bit patchy
SO GOOD IT HURTS! January 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought myself a nice snazzy PS3 60GB recently, and decided to pick up F1 Championship Edition for my other half, who loves racing games. I'm starting to think I made a massive mistake, as now I can't get him off the thing! Personally they're not really my thing, I prefer a Resident Evil style game, but this is truly excellent. The graphics are superb, and it is a very immersive experience. The scope of the game is awesojme, with some very nice gameplay touches. Overall, a triumph. And I'm not even into these sort of games! Let's just hope I can prise 'im indoors away from PS3 for a little bit so I can have a go!
Why so negative June 2, 2007 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is an oustanding launch game, the graphic's are a real showcase as to what the ps3 is capable of and really take the breath away at times, but the real reason to judge a game is not the eye candy but the gameplay and f1 excel's here too, I'm no hardcore gamer, just grab an hour here and there when possible but this game caters for all, there are numerous options and driving aids to adjust for your preference ,and the evolution option is great for non petrol heads (me) making all the necessary car adjustments for you,but if it's detail you crave then the skys the limit in this department,as for force feedback i dont think this game suffers too much as a result as you really get sucked in to each race but it will be a bonus when i comes.
I really believe that people have berated this title just to get at the ps3 which is a shame as this is a gem for 29.99.A must buy
