Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell: Fight against armed gangs in both the U.S. and Japan in this brand new first person actioner from the publishers of Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell. Master both guns and swords as you play through the bloodiest game yet on the Wii. The lowdown: One of the biggest third party games announced exclusively for the Wii, this is also the first proper first person shooter for the new console. You use the nunchuck controller to move around and the Wii remote to aim your weapons with real precision (the game even knows when you’re holding a gun sideways, gangsta style). When using a sword the motion sensors in the nunchuck are used to block and you can slash away with the Wii remote. The graphics aren’t massively more impressive than a good GameCube game but the seedy Japanese back streets and giant explosions look great and the artificial intelligence for enemies is already quite a challenge. Most exciting moment: The game features an ability to called freeze tagging which allows you to slow down time and “tag” enemy body parts with the Wii remote. When you switch back to normal time you can take down each enemy you tagged instantly. Since you ask: As seen at E3 the sword controls do not respond exactly to the movements you make with the Wii remote, for example moving the remote up actually causes a downward thrust. Following complaints though Ubisoft have promised to change things for the final game. The bottom line: The Wii gets violent with the next gen’s only first person sword fighter. HARRISON DENT

AMAZINGLY COOL FPS! March 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is not only the best fps on the wii, but also one of the greatist fps EVER.(Yes, even better then Call of Duty 4). Brillint controls and stunning sword move makes this insane game even cooler. For the first part of the game you fight japanish thugs and american chavs(seriously). You get all kinds of guns ranging from uzis to shotguns, sniper rifels to assult rifels. But the best weapon in the game is also the smallist, the gernade! Holding 'down' on the wii 'mote's control pad makes you hold the gernade(only if you have them though!) then you can either 'throw' the nunchuck to lob an gernade or flick the nunchuck up to roll it along the ground!
all in all, a must have if your looking for a great fps, with a mix of sword fighting. BUY THIS NOW
Under-rated (UK Review) December 10, 2006 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I brought this game with my Wii at Launch because it came as part of a package. Many mags and websites had been critical of this game, but I really don't understand why? The games story is weak, but it's not really the story that is the focus of the game. Basically, your engaged to a girl you were originally a body guard for, and you go to meet her father. However, during this meeting, gagsters show up and kidnap the girl, and its up to you to get her back. The game is set in the first person, so you see everything through the eyes of your character. There aren't a great range of guns, mainly different types of machine gun, shotgun and handgun really, but what is nice is the ability to use swords using the Wii remote and nunchuck. Using the remote you can slash the sword, and using the nunchuck you can defend and dodge attacks, and this is a really unique and pleasing feature of the game which really gives you a great demonstration of some of the innovation the wii can bring. Using guns isn't as fun, but the controller allows for greater control, but demands a steady hand. The locations of the game vary pleasingly, from a garage with lots of neat looking explosions, to hotels, and to clubs. The graphics are excellent for this, and it just goes to really make the experience an enjoyable one. The mags have been critical of voice acting and sound, but personally, it never really bothered me. The only problems I would pull out about this game are an overly stupid menu screen which you have to highlight in order to see the english and is in neon. This just makes the game feel tacky and cheap, but this is only a minor problem, and the fact that this game will make your arm ache big time. A great game to buy, you wont be disappointed. Highly recommended.
Thanks UBISOFT - Excellent Game April 30, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I just wanted to add my 2cents to the other reviews. This game has had some bad reviews but I decided I better try the game since it certainly looked very good despite the lacklustre reviews. Boy, am I glad I did. Yes I do get weary doing the sword fighting but the physical workout just adds to the thrill when you finally do get through. There's a couple of truly funny moments (which I will not reveal) although overall the story is very sober and gritty; in fact, the storyline and Ninja-time makes this game have a similar feel to Max Payne (but with better graphics). Involving clever, great graphics (hey maybe not HD but better than anything I've seen on Gamecube or PS2) interesting levels, involving storyline - as a debut title I think UBISOFT needs a great pat on the back for delivering an excellent fps. Thanks UBISOFT for a great game. Please make another Wii fps! :-)
Wii love red steel! December 21, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
It is new. and very very very good. It reminds me of my 2 favorite shooters ever, Goldeneye for the N64 and Time crisis. People get mad with the wii because it has bad graphics. This game proves the wii has what it takes to compete with other consoles when graphics are concerned. Red steel is the 2nd best game on the wii, behind zelda. Red steel showcases the wii's new approach to gaming, and how all types of games can be fitted in with the unique controller. I hope this is one of the first games in your wii. Is it? No? Go out and buy it and play it. Let it make you see how good the wii is.
Great gameplay May 24, 2007 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
Ok so the graphics are nothing special- slightly better than Goldeneye but not much, the concept is nothing new, the sound is not ground breaking but the gameplay is almost perfect!!! Using the wiimote to point at and shoot your enemies or swing your sword adds an extra element to the game that HD graphics or cinema sound will never match. The game itself is fast, action packed and perfect for a few hours play here and there. This game will no doubt disappoint the first person shooter fans who have grown accustomed to new games offering better and better graphics with exactly same mouse moving or thumb moving gameplay but if you're open to new ways to interact with your games you will not regret this purchase.
