Product Description Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008's on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high stakes match. Set-pieces have been improved, with full control given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team. Marking the series' first appearance on PLAYSTATION 3, and its second Xbox 360 outing, these and the PC-DVD 'Next Generation' versions of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008's are further enhanced by stunning aesthetic elements. Player detail has been taken to incredible levels with full facial animation and the high-definition detail afforded by the hardware used to show full movement and subtle details to the various kits during the course of a match. All 'Next Gen' versions will also benefit from an extensive Edit mode, allowing gamers to customise their PES experience.

The best keeps getting better! November 1, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Having been a pro ev fan since the very first game i was a disappointed to see the latest incarnation being slated purley because of it's on-line play.
Now i've never played on xbox live so im not one to judge there but having bought it and played it myself i have to say it's an improvment on what was already the best footie game out there (Pro ev 6). It's the suttle differences for me that do it, the ability for a powerful forward to hold the ball up for support or make a charging run from midfield (ballack/Kruger in particular), which to me makes the game a bit more lifelike and a bit more enjoyable.
If your like me and enjoy having a few mates round, a few beers and some "friendly" competition or a otherwise boring weeknight this is the game for you.
5 stars!
Awesome October 28, 2007 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
Awesome, like pro evo but also has the good things that fifa has, for example you know when you play fifa and it feels like your watching a real game with all the good replays and awesome commentory etc. Pro evo has this, add the fact that the players look like they should and awesome gameplay and you have one awesome game, AND BEFORE YOU SAY IT IM NOT A PRO EVO FANBOY BECAUSE I BUY FIFA AND PRO EOV EVERY YEAR!!!!! Like foot ball? buy this game. I could go on and on, but im bored typing, ur probably bored reading :D ITs BETTER THAN FIFA!!!
Whats everyone on about????.....This is the best PES yet!! November 10, 2007 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have a few gripes with this review system. How can we justify what the game is like when people are coming on here and basically lying? I feel like going onto the FIFA 08 page and writing a damning review of how tripe that game is. I wont though as I havent played it, and im sure it is very good, Although it can not be a patch on PES 2008.
Now I have had my little moan, I can get on and actually review this game. Firstly I would like to begin with the phrase "why re-invent the wheel". This is an old phrase which basically means "if it aint broke, why fix it". Well finally Konami have cottoned on to this, and have reproduced the best football game by a country mile by taking there old systems and making them look nice and polished al a FIFA to give the most complete package.
I had little expectations of this game after PES 6 and also reading the reviews on this site, I thought Konami may have lost it, how wrong was I. Not since PES 4 on ps2 have I played such a realistic, free flowing game of football that can be likend to actually watching and playing the game. For the first time in 5 years I have actually managed to score a goal from outside the box without the keeper pulling of a heroic save the likes of Paul Robinson could only dream of!
Right from the start, Konami have completely remodeled the title screens to something thats interesting and eye catching rather than the plain old lists of the previous series. Once within the menus, playing the master league, you can see that the whole set up is now changed and the players dashboard now updates with all the latest stats, figures, and identifies players who are fatigued, playing well and who are increasing in the stats.
Then onto the actual game play itself, the game actually physically moves around like a real game. If you want to knock the ball around and keep possession, you can actually slow the game right down as the opposition tires (unfortunately this happens to you when the opposition is in possession too!). Then, if you want to step up the pace, a quick one two and then you're in with a chance, and its this slick movement of the players that actually gives it its realism. The fluid movement of the players as the move to make space for you and themselves is top notch.
There are of course little niggles, and like everyone else has pointed out the replays are a bit ropey, but it seems to be only a few camera angles that have this problem and if like me, you actually ignore this and focus on the gameplay then it is not a problem.
PES 2008 is an excellent return to form by the Konami boys and have done themselves proud with this effort. A complete rethink after the woeful pes 6, and has returned to the similar gameplay of PES 4 and adding in the good bits of 5 and 6, to this add in the high definition, this has made for perhaps the ultimate football game ever. I started by saying "Why do you need to re-invent the wheel?" well thank god thats the policy of EA sports for there football games as pro evo is back to its original best, and its going to take some beating!!
People are being overly critical - this game is very good indeed! October 27, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've been playing the full game of Pro Evo 2008 now for a couple of days solid. This has been long enough to assure you that this is the best Pro Evolution Soccer title to date.
People are being RIDICULOUSLY critical about this game. I have owned every single Pro Evolution Soccer title going back to ISS on the SNES. This version is better than any I have previously played. To give this game 1 or 2 stars, to me - it seems like people are just trying to make a statement rather than honestly review the product.
One previous review said that this game wasn't as good as PES6 - and that PES6 was a great game in need of a couple minor tweaks! This to me says it all about this persons review. PES6 is quite frankly the worst PES game of the entire series. To criticise Pro Evo 2008 because it has 'more accurate shooting' than PES6 says it all. The shooting mechanic in PES6 was AWFUL.
I think peoples expectations have been too high. I also own FIFA08, and it's not a bad game - but it's not as good as this. This game has an incredible depth of gameplay and playability that FIFA08 just does not have. Some of the passing moves that you can put together to unlock defenses are just stunning. It 'feels' fantastic.
This game is not without it's flaws. Playing as one of the top teams in standard exhibitions mode, some of the players have too much pace. This doesn't seem so apparent when playing in the Master League at one of the higher difficulty levels. The pace feels brisk, but not in a way that feels detrimental to the realism of the action. The other main flaw is that the online play is currently laggy. But I'm hoping they will sort this out.
The bottom line is that this version of Pro Evo, taking all flaws into account, is still better than any other edition in the series. And it is also better than FIFA08. There are always going to be people who prefer FIFA to Pro Evo - these are the people that get hung up on graphical quality abd licensed teams. I have both games, and I know which game I will be playing solidly for the next year - and that's Pro Evo 2008.
Give this game time!! November 4, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have been playing Pro Evo since it's first incarnation on the psone and have enjoyed every version due to the realistic gameplay. I can understand some of the less favourable reviews given for this game as, initially, PES2008 is quite frustrating. However, the key to getting the most out of this game is to not play it the way you would play PES6. The gameplay has evolved and been tweaked here and there, therefore the player must also adapt their game to the new gameplay system before they can reap the rewards of playing PES2008. I found the game pretty frustrating at first but now that i've been playing the game for just over a week i am getting used to the gameplay and it is an improvement on last years offering without a doubt. Anyone who wants flashy menus, licensed teams and are not that bothered about realistic gameplay should buy FIFA. If it's a true representation of the beatiful game you're after PES is the game for you.
Admittedly the online lagging issues are a monumental pain in the a*se but you know that this will be sorted out with an update or two from xbox live as PES 6 was last year.
