4 out of 5 stars Fun with crashes, turns and stunts, a bit repetative if you don't progress quickly   January 31, 2008

I first tried this when I downloaded the demo from the PSN, and finally decided to buy the full version. If you are not sure, then download the demo and see for yourself.

It's fun or frustrating, depending on how good you do. Essentially you listen to the director and look for yellow targets while driving around a film set. Each set has six scenes, starting off relatively easy and getting more difficult and longer. The magic trick here is to memorise them and then you know where to position yourself for the next take.

It can be frustrating since everything is designed to be in the way if you miss a stunt, or crash into something you shouldn't of, or miss your mark. But it can be fun when you get your flow going and hit all the marks. If you miss five stunts during the scene, the director will call cut and you will have to start again, and he will tell you off, which can be funny for a while but downright annoying when you take 20 goes to get to the end. He also praises you and offers his sisters phone number when you do well.

So the trick is to do all the stunts at the right place and in as short a time as possible. When you make it to the end of a scene, you are awarded a rating, one to five in stars based on how many stunts you missed and the time it took. To get the really good points you need to string it, which means you need to complete a stunt or something stunt like (scrape a car, miss an object by an inch etc) within two seconds of the last stunt. To progress to the next scene you need to score reasonably well, I found a two or three rating should do the trick.

There are several films in production, the first is a sort of rip of a volcano movie such as Dante's Peak, escaping from a town with lava flowing down the hill, you have to jump, crash, handbrake turn, slide your way to safety. You get to use a few different cars and a motorbike while escaping.

The second is a sort of rip of The Dukes of Hazzard with the good old boys running around a small town, this time you get to try a few different vehicles, such as the armoured van, the souped-up pickup truck, motorbike, etc. The third, fourth, fifth etc, well who knows, not made it that far yet.

Overall it is fun to play and easy to pick up and let your friends have a quick session too. It can get repetitive if you take a while to memorise the scenes and are not the best gamer around, but I find it's best to dip in and out of it for 30 minutes at a time, but I always have a laugh when playing and anyone else who has a go loves the idea too, I can't get them off it.

4 out of 5 stars Stuntman Ignition   December 27, 2007

In Stuntman: Ignition, you have been hired by a famous film crew, to drive cars for the action sequences.
There is no time to play around in this game, you are timed and will have to complete each stunt within this time limit.
So if your like games where, you just like to roam, this definatly is not for you.
The graphics are simply amazing, to the extent that in some circumstances, the game will slow downa fraction, this does not affect gameplay, and only last a second.
You can choose to control your vehicles using the Sixaxis controller.
This works well except for an almost unnoticable delay.
Left and right to steer, and pull back to do wheelies (Motorbike sequences)
Stuntman, is also one of the few games for PS3 with offline multiplayer, games are now dominated by the newer, online multiplayer functions.
Although the number of games are growing.
Online functionality is good, with 2-8 players being able to play.
In multiplayer you will attle rival stuntmen on the film sets and multiplayer arenas.
To get the highest points possible you have to string your stunts.
Stringing is where you complete each stunt within two seconds of each other.
Also, if you make mistakes during the filming, or do not complete the stunts within the time limit you will have to restart, you get 5 restarts, and then the game is over..

Overall
A well rounded off game but can be infuriating in places where you have to keep restarting.
4/5

4 out of 5 stars "ACTION!!"   March 1, 2008
I am addicted to this game it's great to just pick up and play, has great graphics, sounds and menus. Basically you are a stuntman hired to perform stunts in big movies the game is'nt too hard but it takes a few go's to remember the exact route of each scene without missing any marks.
The whole game is well thought out and load times are great - the game is very immersive although you may find yourself ploughing into an oncoming vehicle or brick wall due to you eyeing up the gorgeous surroundings instead of looking at the road! Each movie stunt scene you drive in is different and I find myself forever going back to better my last score. Also the in-game slo-mos when you make a jump are a lovely touch and you can save and replay your stunt runs to see how they looked! If you want something a bit different, fun and with lots of colour and explosions -buy this! It's superb fun!
