Amazon.co.uk Review
While Electronic Arts' other sports games may be locked in a deadly rivalry with their competitors there really hasn't been a golf sim to go head-to-head with Tiger Woods for years. There doesn't seem to be too much laurel sitting going on though, especially since this is, like many Electronic Arts games this year, the first time the game has been designed specifically with the next generation of consoles in mind. Naturally that means the most realistic graphics yet, not only for the course itself but also for Tiger and the other real-world golfers. Their faces and expressions look totally life-like and on the PS3 and 360 you can use a webcam or digital camera to import your own face and graft it to your own in-game custom golfer. In terms of gameplay the major new feature is the concept of "shot confidence" which monitors your performance through your whole career, adding an extra degree of tension to difficult shots but also allowing you to examine your game in detail to find out where you're going right and wrong. After criticisms that last year's game was a bit thin on options this new game has the greatest number of courses ever including Westchester Country Club, TPC Boston, Cog Hill and East Lake. There's also the expanded GamerNet mode which acts like a sort of YouTube just for the game, allowing you post in-game videos and challenge other people to a game in an online world dedicated to nothing but golf. Total addictive fun September 13, 2007 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
Ok, so what do i know about serious gaming? Afterall, I'm just a girl who hasn't owned a games console since the fading days of the PS1, but this game is great. I don't much care whether the graphics are up there with the XBox 360 or PS3 - I want a game that's both playable, feels reasonably authentic to my experience of real-life golf, is fun and challenging. This game ticks all the boxes in relation to these criteria. Seriously addictive.
The more sophisticated Wii sport golf September 3, 2007 37 out of 39 found this review helpful
Like most people of the wii world i love wii sports golf. But having played the same 9 holes countless times, i wanted more. Having read lots of reviews of '07 i wasn't disapointed by '08. The swing takes a tiny little bit of getting used to but once you do, through the tutorial at the beginning you realise that it is much better and more realistic. The putting action is very smooth, although sometimes gravity forgets to work when i'm putting and it doesn't go into the hole, but maybe thats just my bad putting. With a wide variety of courses and mini games that are really good fun (especially the mini-putt), this game is defiantely for those who want a good game of golf on the wii.
Why is everyone so derogatory? September 4, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Im fed up of reading people saying "not as good as the XBox" or "not as good as the PS". For goodness sake, theyre having to start again, its almost like the first ever Tiger game, which was hopeless. EA have done well and Tiger 08 is great. If you take your time and concentrate, you can get the hang of hitting it straight in no time.
I really enjoy playing Tiger 08, its great fun, and the graphics are good, ok not brilliant, but good enough to see whats going on.
I hope people stop being so pathetic, get on with it, and enjoy the game as much as I have!
the best tiger ever... October 29, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
i really thought carefully about this game before the purchase. i'd played other tiger games on the xbox and had tried tiger 07 on the wii which i didn't like. This was mainly due to the fact that i'd This happened often and was so annoying that i gave back the copy i'd borrowed and never bought the game myself.
Instead i bought pangya golf which started ok, but within a few hours i found the learning curve unbelieveably steep and the opponents regularly sinking 30 foot puts to beat me. I sold it on ebay.
Then tiger 08 comes out and has some good reviews. Keen to get a new golf game i purchase and find it's brill. Yes the swing needs some getting used to and sometimes it doesn't seem to register your shot correctly but mostly it works well (much better than 07!!). I find if i keep my hands straighter than i normally would, and swing in an exagerated fashion the wiimote registers my shot correctly most of the time.
I've started working through the tiger challenge mode, which is big, and i'm enjoying myself loads. i don't win every challenge first time, but the variety of types of games keeps things interesting.
The multiplayer mini games look excellent although i've not tried many myself.
One annoying fact is that you can't save a round half way through. You can skip most of the cpu's shot but a round can still take up to 45 mins and so a midgame save would have been good. EDIT EDIT - has stated by the reviewer who placed the comment below (click on 'comment') you can save half way round. oops!
overall - I was hesitant before purchasing but now i'd recommend it strongly.
Playing golf in your living room February 19, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I had played Tiger on PC, PS3 and PSP before and found them very relaistic in gameplay and wondered if the Wii could match this. Having read a number of reviews that said the putting was difficult and needed to use the analouge stick I became sceptical.
I still took the plunge and have not looked back as the game is very quick to set up and get to a reasonable level of play. The swing action and it's sensitivivity is as close as possible to playing real golf and the putting I am pleased to say is likewise. You are rewarded by having a smooth slow pendulum action with the correct strength and reading teh burrows of the green.
The graphics are not yet to PS3 levels but the speed of gameplay makes up for missing having a crowd and realistic water. A round played well can take half the time of the PS3 game as the loading between holes is much quicker.
Congrats to EA for prodcuing what was required for a Wii player in being able to use the full functionaliity of the remote in gameplaying.
