pro street wii lowdown November 27, 2007 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
having not played need for speed carbon i was slightly apprehensive as to how this game would fare on the wii, I really fancied buying it having seen the ps3 trailer running in my local store. I fired up the game and i have to say the intro is incredible you would think its a ps3 the details and level of attention on the graphics.
I played the game for around 4 hours non-stop and my wife was relegated to the 'other room' it really is that addiditive, i started by playing a standalone race mode whereby you create a what sort of race you want whether this be round a course or the new drag mode !! 2 of you revving up and hurtling down a 1/4 mile of track !!
Once i got the hang of the controls i entered the career mode and am progessing trying to win tournament and work up the ladder to try and beat the top racers!! the customisation of the cars are all there you can change the entire look and feel and the usual EA jukebox is there with lots of tunes to select from which is handy as not all are that banging !!!!
If your worried about the controls no problems to drive the car you turn the wii remote sideways and button1 and 2 are accelerate and brake and by tiliting up and down you turn the car left and right it really does work !!!if bends are sharp ease of the throttle and you can corner no problems, the drag race lets you hold the wii remote conventially and not worry about steering,!!! burn up your tires for grip by using the b buttong and then a to accelerate when the gear change hits the green bar flick the remote left and you change gear !!! its incredible to see the smoke and your car hurtling down the track.
If your boderline about getting this i'd say go for it and feel the need for speed
Great Racing Game January 6, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Previously played some racing games on the PC but unfortunately the computer crashed every 15 minutes. Decided to get a console and see how it performed. Have really enjoyed this game. Wii controls work well and the game play is good.
The onscreen instructions are a bit over complex and the saves seem very limited (just 3 "careers" allowed). The graphics are well short of PC standard but this doesn't detract from the gameplay.
Overall have enjoyed the game and it should keep me busy for quite some time.
surprisingly good! November 24, 2007 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I'm no racing game fan but thought I would try nfs purely out of curiosity. Its the first time i have enjoyed playing a car game and I cant wait to get back on the wii and play more. The control method is a bit awkward as it doesnt work with steering wheels. This being said, its not too hard to get the knack of how the controls work. The graphics are of a very good quality and this has to be, by far, the best game I've seen on the wii so far
Enjoyable and easy to get into. January 7, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this game with some trepidation as I was unsure how a driving game would work on the Wii, but my fears were mostly ungrounded.
First let me get the negatives out of the way. The menu was initially confusing until I realised that the remote had to be held in the 'driving'orientation. Steering has no neutral zone so can be a bit twitchy, the ability to define the sensitivity or a neutral/dead zone would have been ideal. The definition of an alias seems mildy pointless as I always seemed to be called by the default game name on scoring tables. The career path is a tad confusing, could be laid out with better clarity. Like many Wii games I feel the instruction book is lacking in detail working out some aspects of the game comes down to paying attention to the in game hints/tips. The above points are all minor, and continued game play could improve some of these issues.
Now for the good points. The game is very easy to get into, and starting out on casual skil level makes the game easy to get to grips with. The two player mode is fun, and my wife has enjoyed it too. Unfortunately this means she occassionaly beats me!! The different race types are fun. Grip is my favourite and probably the most traditional race type. Drag is good fun and probably makes the best use of the Wii Remote, I found it initially hard to get to grips with but after a few goes found myself able to win drag races. The last type is drift racing and I've yet to get to grips with this really, basically controlled slides/drifts round corners and bends. Graphically its pretty good, certainly better than some Wii games.
Overall its good fun and the positives outweigh any negatives. If you want a fun easy to enjoy driving game you could do a lot worse.
give it a break January 1, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
i don't know why critics are saying bad things about this game. its generally a good game. the cars are awesome and multi-player mode is excellent (there's nothing better than lapping your mates). the controls are ace. you tip the wiimote on its side so A is on you left and tip the sides up and down to steer whilst using 2 to accelerate. i have only just got the game so i cant go into more detail. all i can say is that the only bad points are the graphics aren't that good and drag racing is very difficult.
