5 out of 5 stars Just right...   December 25, 2007

I've had my laptop for a while and have made do with the bog standard mouse that came with our desktop years ago (having already upgraded that to a wireless mouse and keyboard). I've always been a fan of logitech since their speakers have have been a joy since I was given them last christmas and I'm happy to say this mouse beats all expectations.

General feel:
The mouse itself is not nano in the traditional sense, the wireless receiver definately is though. I'd often thought about wireless mice but hated the idea of the whopping dongle sticking out of such a small machine. The nano reciever is amazingly small, totally unobtrusive and people I know have trouble believing that it actually contains anything at all.
The mouse is just the right size. I'm a 21yo male and it fits comfortably in my hands. Even after extended use, there's no discomfort and I'd say even less that using a traditionally sized mouse. The contours are magically in the right place and the slightly rough top surface, along with the rubberized sides means for a very easy and secure hold.
The wheel can be (with a push down) changed from ratchet to smooth, though the ratchet itself has a good balance between easy rotation and purposeful increments. The sidewise rock of the wheel, for horizontal scrolling, is firm (so you don't accidentally knock it sideways) but, again, not too firm that it's difficult to use. The buttons themselves are nice and sesitive, requiring not much pressure and have a good spring in them so if you play a lot of games, as I do, you can click very rapidly.
The forward/back buttons, are in just the right place so you don't accidentally press them.
The 2 AAA batteries give what is otherwise a very light mouse a very good weight. I have struggled with some wireless mice that are simply too heavy and it's a real pain.

Performance:
The accesible buttons and great weight make this a perfect gaming mouse and its versitility with just the right number of little gadgets means that everyday tasks are a breeze too. The software itself allows for customisable button functions depending upon what application is active such that if I switch between firefox and media player, the page forward/back buttons, instead control volume without me having to think about it at all. This is fantastic. The software is equally a breeze to set up and very good to use.
Battery life seems good so far, I do intend to buy some rechargables but the mouse itself come with batteries which is novel in this day and age. ALso I haven't lost functionality at all yet so the range and signal reliability have equally been faultless.

Travelling:
It comes with a carry case (!) and the reciever can be placed inside the mouse (which also turns it off while its inside to avoid accidentally running down the batteries). Nice touches here.

Overall:
I can't fault it unless it breaks down anytime soon (which I doubt considering logitech's dedication to well built kit). I definately recommend this mouse to anyone and for any occasion. I've even taken to using it on my desktop (which is easy since it comes with an adaptor for the dongle that can sit on your desktop). Fantastic.

5 out of 5 stars Yes, it's as good as everyone says   January 13, 2008

This is a truly fabulous little mouse. Not too big, not too small - it's perfect for either your notebook or your desktop.

It is so sensitive that it takes a couple of days to get used to, but at the end of the day that's the whole point of laser technology, and once you get used to it, every other mouse will seem sluggish and "dimwitted" to you.

You don't have to worry about the battery (which is a real pain in often used optical wireless mice) because it uses such little power and Logitech have sensibly provided you with a power button on the base which is easily activated with the press of a thumb.

The real icing on the cake though has to be the size of the receiver. Once you put it into your laptop, the only time you'll be removing it is because you want a use your mouse on all of the other computers you come into contact with - otherwise, you just keep it plugged into your laptop all the time...... and don't think the size of that receiver effects the range of usability - it doesn't.

It's quite astonishing actually. If you find your mouse is out of range, then chances are you'll need a pair of binoculars to see your screen!!!!

I'm an IT trainer so I spend a lot of time using other people's computers, most of which are so ancient that the attached mouse has a ball in it - and no scroll button. It's fabulous to just plug the receiver into the nearest USB port and voila - you have a sensitive and reliable mouse at your fingertips.

If you want to use some of the features however you will have to install the included software. The two buttons for moving backwards and forwards in your Internet browser are great and you really will have to try the scroll button for yourself to realise just how smooth, responsive and accurate it is.

For 40 this mouse is an absolute steal. Congratulations to Logitech for creating the best of both worlds with this one. Well built, attractive and extremely good at what it does.

Buy it!

5 out of 5 stars The best portable mouse I have had   September 23, 2007

I have been using notebook PCs for years, but have never much enjoyed trackpads or, worse, the nipple. However, the original notebook mice tended to be too small for my (average, male) hands, and any benefit gained by the small device was lost in its lead or USB dongle. I thought Logitech had finally cracked it with the mouse they introduced a while back where the dongle lives inside the mouse, but this goes one better. The USB receiver can hide in the mouse (in the battery compartment), but it is genuinely small enough to keep plugged into the notebook 24/7. Moreover, the mouse has all the latest facilities, including forward and back and horizontal scrolling. I am not a gamer, so I can't say how it would be in games, but it is very smooth, responsive and accurate. While it is smaller than the normal desktop mouse, I find it easily large enough to be useable. Three minor criticisms. The on/off button on the base is a little temperamental. The case provided is larger than it need be. And, having seen mine, my wife wants one. Oh, well...

5 out of 5 stars Best mouse ever!!!   November 2, 2007

Looking for a mouse for my laptop, I was attracted to this product by the very good reviews it had received from other Amazon buyers - and I can tell you they were right! Everything about it is quality: great looking, well designed, solid feel, excellent glide. It is slightly larger than some laptop mice I've seen, but I regard this as a good thing, and after a short time getting used to it it feels very natural. The receiver is remarkably small, but it doesn't sacrifice range, working perfectly at a greater distance than any laptop mouse I've seen before. The extra buttons are great too, especially back and forward browser buttons on the left side. Lastly, and this might sound strange, it works! I mean you just plug it in and it works instantly - no buttons to press, no complicated setup, it just does what it's supposed to do. Having tried several wireless laptop mice in the past, believe me when I tell you that getting one that just works is a godsend.

To summarise: If you don't already own one, what are you waiting for? BUY IT. You will not regret it.

This VX Nano Laser Mouse works quite well. The mouse itself is a mid-size mouse and not "Nano" itself, which makes it more user friendly. It also has rubberized side grips which aid in its handling. Included with the mouse is a connection receiver for a desktop, a nice bonus. I use this for my Toshiba laptop for which it is perfect. It has a small receiver that you can plug into your USB port and leave it there, even when transporting the computer. If you wish you could remove the receiver and it store it out of the way and safe inside the mouse itself; the engineers paid attention to details on this one. Two standard AAA batteries power the mouse and it has an on/off switch that I am hoping will extend the life of the batteries. Batteries were included! The mouse also comes with a nice carry bag to protect it while in your case for transportation, or to just keep it free of dust when not in use.

It was very easy to install and works great right out of the box. The hardest part about installation is getting the mouse itself out of the packaging. I found the tracking and scrolling perfect. At a press of a button you can go from scroll to hyper-scroll on the mouse wheel. Plus I found the mouse speed was perfect for my use as delivered. I have limited mobility and was able to use this easily. And it seems that the mouse does not need direct line of site to the receiver in order to work. It works well without a mouse pad, which was very important to me since I had to test it in bed. I had the computer on the hospital table and the mouse on the bed. The next day I downloaded the software that it comes with and it allows use to increase the utility of the mouse by giving you access to advanced features. I found the additional functionality to be very helpful. Including Internet search at a push of a button. I also appreciate the battery indicator for the mouse, so you do not have to guess when your batteries should be replaced. My computer gains access to the Internet by WiFi and may be the reason it took several minutes for me to download the software. But you only need to do this once, and only if you wish to use the advanced features of your mouse.

This is the standard high quality Logitech mouse technology we have become use too. This has now become my permanent laptop mouse and my sister saw it and is buying one for her laptop. I am really pleased to have this mouse, it makes using my laptop so much easier and therefore enjoyable. Highly recommended.
