5 out of 5 stars Better than the 360 version, a PC must buy....   November 9, 2007

I am a huge Gears of War fan. And had to get the PC version.

This is a perfect port of the 360 version. So expect all the great game play 360 owners have had the last 12 mths.

A couple of things that really set this game above the rest is the PC interface. This is the 1st game on PC I have played that copies the 360 in game interface. Not only do I use my 360 controller which I find is easier than keyboard and mouse (may be that I am just used to playing like this). But also if you press the centre button you get the xbox live console with all your friends and messaging controls. Now this is what I have expected Microsoft to do since the 360 came out. And it really adds to the usability of the game. This is a great idea that I really look forward to be added to all PC games.

The 360 controller works exactly the same as on the 360. And the game looks fantastic and I do mean fantastic.

I am running at 1280x900 with max graphics on XP with 8500GT 512mb card, E6750 Duo cpu and 2gig ram. And I have a very smooth running game, no idea what the frame rate is but I don't notice any lag at all. It looks much more crisp than the 360 this may be the monitor that helps as well as the resolution.

The game play is as on the 360, which is spot on. Baddies ar hard to kill ( I like to shoot them in the knees and watch them go down and then stomp them, great fun). Online play is the same as 360.

An all round top notch game, an absolute must for any serious gamer. Buy it now.

5 out of 5 stars Only Problems Were With Windows Live...   March 10, 2008

Once I'd managed to get on Windows Live I've had no problems... The game is awesome, one of the best shooters on PC ever... You are missing out if you don't get it...

I have a powerful PC and so didn't experience any of the problems mentioned elsewhere and found this port to be spot on. A great game which I found a lot easier to play with mouse/keyboard than on the 360.
Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Game of the Year   January 30, 2008

I've got to say, after reading the reviews on amazon for this game, I was a little hesistant to buy it. But nevertheless, I took the plunge, and bought it...and wow, this is one of the best looking games I have ever seen. I can run almost all settings maxed on my macbook pro, (Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz, ATi Radeon X1600, 1GB RAM), and it runs so smoothly.

The gameplay is different to all the other shooters I own, but in a good way. The controls are easy to pick up, both on the keyboard and the 360 controller, both of which I have used.

This game is much more tactical than most shooters, and requires the player to use the level environment both offensively and defensivly to complete missions. It isn't just the standard 'run and gun' gameplay I have come to expect from shooters, which makes this game a welcome addition to my collection.

I have yet to try online play, due to my internet at home being down, but I look forward to trying it, as I am a big fan of team-based tactical games.

I have so far experienced none of the issues that were mentioned in other reviews. Infact, the only downside I have found so far is the rather lengthy install time, (which is to be expected from a 12GB game!)

So, to anyone thinking of buying this game, you don't need an incredibly powerful rig to play this game, (but it helps if you want the extra eye candy that high settings offer you), as this game offers very nice graphics even on the medium settings.

All-in-all, an amazing game that easily lives up to the hype 360 owners gave it. Well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Don't listen to all the negativity from everyone this is a great port!   July 17, 2008

Epic Games put there hands in the air admitted that there were some MAJOR flaws with the Gears port to PC.

There was constint Game crashes, Saved Files disapearing, Very Bad Lag on a high end PC.

These problems have now been remedied thanks to a patch that Epic Games released through the Gears Of War website, But not everything was fixed sadly.

People still reported of game crashes, "Stuttering"..ETC

There are many home remedys that people have found on the web on how to fix these problems just by modifying a few files in the Bineries Folder.

Before everyone says that this is a Broken Port..Dont Because there are ways to fix these problems just some research needs to be done on how to fix them, Just Remember there IS a way to fix these problems just do some reseach on the web such as : The Epic Games Forums and Any other Gears Of War Related Forums.

Overall For This Game 9/10 : Gears Is Amazing Single Player and Multiplayer Wise, But the Multiplayer can get very buggy and strange some times
