Amazon.co.uk Review Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End is a rollicking voyage in the same spirit of the two earlier Pirates films, yet far darker in spots (and nearly three hours to boot). The action, largely revolving around a pirate alliance against the ruthless East India Trading Company, doesn't disappoint, though the violence is probably too harsh for young children. Through it all, the plucky cast (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush) are buffeted by battle, maelstroms, betrayal, treachery, a ferocious Caribbean weather goddess, and that gnarly voyage back from the world's end--but with their wit intact. As always, Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow tosses off great lines; he chastises "a woman scorned, like which hell hath no fury than!" He insults an opponent with a string of epithets, ending in "yeasty codpiece." In the previous The Curse of the Black Pearl, Sparrow was killed--sent to Davy Jones' Locker. In the opening scenes, the viewer sees that death has not been kind to Sparrow--but that's not to say he hasn't found endless ways to amuse himself, cavorting with dozens of hallucinated versions of himself on the deck of the Black Pearl. But Sparrow is needed in this world, so a daring rescue brings him back. Keith Richards' much ballyhooed appearance as Jack's dad is little more than a cameo, though he does play a wistful guitar. But the action, as always, is more than satisfying, held together by Depp, who, outsmarting the far-better-armed British yet again, causes a bewigged commander to muse: "Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along?" As far as fans are concerned, it matters not. --A.T. Hurley

Dark, Funny and Entertaining November 24, 2007 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I found Pirates 3 to be a far more satisfying viewing experience than the previous two films in the trilogy. The mood is much darker and grittier than One or Two, apparent from the opening scenes which feature graphic (for a Disney/12 Cert film) mass executions as large numbers of pirates and their associates - including women and children - queue up for the gallows.
This is followed by an almost surreal voyage beyond "World's End", lots of mysticism and rather less in the way of pirate yo ho ho and silliness that made the first two movies rather cliched. All the characters have their own agendas, everyone is double crossing everyone else and the producers have no qualms about killing off several characters as the movie progresses.
The battle scenes are quite graphic - not particularly bloody or gory, but certainly more violent than before and, again, people die on both sides.
The Blu-Ray transfer is superb, crystal clear picture on the Sony PS3 to a Hitachi plasma screen. The movie would really have benefited from a DTS soundtrack but the Dolby Digital 5:1 does a fair job. The music score from Hans Zimmer really immerses you in the action and at times is quite moving.
This is a long film at around 161 mins and could probably have benefited from a bit of pruning. However it is a credit to the story and production that things never really flag and you are not looking at the clock as with some longer movies.

Amazing!!!!!!! November 22, 2007 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I watched this film from start to finish and was amazed by the outstanding hi def picture quality. The best part for me was when you first see Jack in Davy Jones Locker, the picture is so bright and you can see every single little piece of detail so clearly! Also watching it with surround sound speakers you get really involved (just like your on board the Black Pearl!.) Also the last scene with Jack and scene after the credits (shall not say what happens, you will have to watch the movie) leaves an opening for a forth movie, which I have read the writers are keen to start but say it shall not be for several years.
great addition to the blu ray collection February 18, 2008 Having watched this quite a few times both on the cinema and now this disc, all i can say is fantastic. If like me, you have the big LCD TV, surround sound and the trusty PS3, this is a definite must have for your collection.
Sure, the storyline can be a little confusing at times but the amount of action and just the role of Jack Sparrow more than makes up for this.
The extras are plentiful with some decent background on the story and pirating.
same as the other guy amazing January 2, 2008 i would rate this 5 star not in blu-ray but putting i in bluray makes it perfect and the best bluray dvd ive seen so far .
Fantastic Film March 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Another fantastic film in the Pirate's trilogy, not quite as good as my favourite - the first one. It ties everything up quite nicely and it is important to watch to the credits to see the ending of the story.
Seeing it on blu ray is like seeing a different film again. Crystal clear pictures giving an almost 3D effect. Once you go to blu ray you spoil yourself, dvd just doesn't look the same again.
Definitely a must buy and don't forget to watch the extras. The extras really make you appreciate the manpower and just what goes into making movies like these. Right down to something you only see briefly on the screen to hand picking locations, no matter how hard they are to get to.
