Not released yet so why review July 29, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
to those reviewers who have not even played the game yet due to simple fact this has not been released yet. unless your admitting to breaching an NDA then i hope you get kicked from the beta, do not post whining reviews about a product that has not been launched its not even on open beta yet so no wonder your preorder codes are not working & if you cant be bothered to check what system requirements the game needs.
giving the fact that i have the preorder codes & am happily waiting for the open beta to start & the release of product will have its teething problems at launch all mmos do, wish the lame wow trollers would stop posting negative reviews.
the footage i have seen so far makes me hope that this is the mmo that rips that heart from the wow community, even if it does not their are quite a few mmos in development atm that will try to take swipe at wow.
Disagree Mr Hicks May 26, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Graphically the lanscapes are fantastic and char detail is very nice. Combat is fun with differnt attacking points and moveable defences. You actually have to think about how and where to attack each enemy. the fatalities are fun to watch and seem quite varied depending on weapon type. Leveling is quick in comparrsion to other similar games. I've played since early access start on 17th and yet to see a single L80 char, highest I've seen in mid 60's.
My experience so far has been good, I'm having a lot of fun. Something LOTR, Guildwars and Warcraft just did not do for me. First MMOG that has a lot of potential since Dark Ages Of Camelot IMHO.
Mr Hicks Spec guide is totally incorrect. I've tested on my home rig with single and dual Sli 8800GTS cards and with 2 Gb and 4 Gb ram, the Ram made no difference at all 2Gb is suffient ti run on High quality settings. Even with 2Gb and a single 8800GTS card it runs at 60+ fps and 30+ in the main cities.
I also play it on a Tosh X200-23g laptop with 3Gb Ram and dual M8600GTS cards. It runs fine on high except in the main city where fps is down to 15-30. Outside its 40+.
I'll be perfectly honest, there are plenty of bugs with quests and some zones crashing. But, it is early days and we have to give Funcom some time to fix them. They are constantly doing updates and monitoring the performance. I'm sure they will get there in the end.
Overall very impressed May 27, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
So far so good. I am up to level 11. It's "WoW-like" but at the same time isn't, in a good way. The gfx are much better as mentioned by others. The gameplay is also more interactive, no more point and autoshot make a cup of tea, as the AI learns your moves and you have to change them or they become ineffective. The game and storyline are much richer. I havent seen any bugs or crashes yet. I have a very high spec machine, dual FX74s, 8800GTS and 8Gb RAM on Vista64. Seems much more stable than WoW (is today!) so I dont know what the fuss is about. I can play on 1900x1200 full AA and get around 60fps which is good enough for my eyes. There is a night mode for single player in the starter town (effectively an instance) or you can play during the game daytime for interaction with others - nice touch. The manual also mentions instancing of areas to avoid game lag, which would be impressive. there is an extra layer of money, tin copper silver gold
Points to come across yet: there are mounts you can ride in combat and you have to swing your weapon on the correct side of the mount to hit your opponent! group quests and instances cant make a guild until level 20+ guild raids to conquer other guild towns! the CE cape and ring - not sure where they are.
Summary Looks promising as a potential WoW replacement. I will play both equally until the Lich King is released then take a view. Hope to reach say level 40-50 by then. I am not in a rush to level like the kids are and want to enjoy the experiences the game has to offer. If you havent played WoW or similar, the interface will take some getting used to.
Graphically great, but overall a very poor launch. May 24, 2008 4 out of 11 found this review helpful
This game exceeds with it's selling point (the graphics), but overall it's very poor.
Ok to start -
Good points:
* Graphics are amazing even on low. * Quest system is a breath of fresh air. Very few fed-ex style quests. * Combat system is a great change from the auto attack most games have. * User UI is customizable, and user friendly. * Leveling is fast. (both good and bad, depending on your view) * Ganking is minimal overall
Bad points:
* Very poor launch. * CE editions arrived with keys that didn't work. * Pre-order keys also did not always work. * GM support is limited. * Leveling is fast. Funcom advertised 2 weeks solid hardcore gaming to reach 80, there were people lvl80 within 3 days of the early access going live. * Unless you a PC that meets the recommended specs, it'll run pretty poor. * An 8800GTX (or similar) and 4gb RAM is needed to run high settings at a reasonable rate. * Not true open world PvP. Zones are instanced. So grouping can be troublesome.
In my personal opinion, wait a few months before buying. Funcom are swarmed with complaints at the minute, and those are growing by the day.
This isn't to say everyone has had issues, some are happily playing away.
For me personally, I think I wasted 60 buying the CE. This game was launched 3 months too early. It's pretty much still in beta in terms of support, glitches, bugs etc
Don't go canceling that WoW sub just yet.
Quick spec check: (to get 30+ fps)
Required to play high - 8800GTX (or similar) 4GB RAM, 3GHz C2D Required to play medium - 8800GT, 3GB RAM, 2.5ghZ C2D Required to play low - 7900+, 2gb RAM, 2.2ghZ C2D
It'll play on lower spec machines, but Funcom's minimum spec are a complete joke.
Buy at your own risk.
Dissapointing September 18, 2008 First of all I would like to say I enjoyed the gameplay and the feel of the game but overall I am dissapointed about the service and the quick release of an unfinished game.
After playing this game for 2 months and buying the Collectors Edition I feel I have wasted a lot of time and money.
The game is not yet complete and going through some major face lifts which I am sure will fix the game up. The problem overall I have is:
1. I spent 60.00 for the Collectors Edition and soon found out that all the extra features were applied to standard game buyers accounts.
2. I didn't get early access / mounts due to a mess up with Collectors Edition.
3. I spent for 6 months of gameplay and after 2 months the game is still in beta stages (I was a beta tester).
If you are interested in buying this game please wait a few more months as it is not yet complete.
