5 out of 5 stars Stunning!   June 7, 2008

Well, I can understand the major issues with the games DRM system. I'm not exactly an advocator of DRM myself. However, if you can get past these issues then you'll be in for one heck of a treat. I am a PS3 owner and was gutted when I heard that Mass Effect was a 360 exclusive. But also owning a PC saved me.

The game is simply amazing. Graphics are second to none, storyline and gameplay are the same. I don't have a high end PC (In fact I'm running it on an Apple iMac with BootCamp) and it looks great, not all the settings are turned up, but I can deal with that.

Buy it. That's all I can say.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Game! Don't be put off with everyone's doom & gloom stories!   June 5, 2008

I really don't see why everyone is moaning incessantly over the DRM - it's game is an example of a rare case where the developers actually stopped and listened to the fans and changed their policy so instead of a weekly check, its now a one time check to make sure the copy you are playing is authentic.

The game is amazing - certainly on-par with all the other Bioware games such as Knights of the Old Republic and is definately a contentder for Game of the Year!

5 out of 5 stars Activation changed   May 10, 2008

The activation scheme has been changed. It now has a one time activaction and it only activates again when downloaded content is added. It still has a 3 system install limit, but if the limit is reached a call to customer support can enable more system installs. It can be installed and uninstalled on the SAME system as many times as you like.

5 out of 5 stars A complaint at some of these so called reviews   May 16, 2008

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I find it astounding that reviewers who haven't even played the game are giving this game 1 or 2 stars purely down to the fact that Bioware/EA are using Securom authentication and nothing to do with the quality of the game play.

These are not legitimate reviews and they give a totally wrong impression of the real quality of this game. The piracy versus privacy argument will rage on but that should not detract from the actual quality of the game - and be under no doubt, this is a marvelous, original role playing game that, for the first time in a number of years with this genre, will actually immerse, engross and captivate the player.

In my opinion any one reading these reviews should of course bear in mind the Securom issue that is raised, but should not let that be the predominant factor in deciding whether or not to buy this game. make your decision from a complete and informed perspective - not a biased and distorted one.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic on all levels.   June 9, 2008

Ignore any review you see here below four stars for this game. It deserves every single one of the five stars I am giving it. The high percentage of you potential buyers out there will, like me, have no problem with EA's additional copyright features on this game. When installing the game I had no problems; no errors, no messages, just a simple install and play and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Anyway; the game itself: There is a fantastic storyline to follow which (if you complete every side mission) covers over 30 hours of gameplay (on the easiest setting).

Sound: The score for the game fits perfectly; the sound is orchestral but follows the sci-fi genre and certainly makes the game and story seem complete. Every character with which you can interact has its own unique voice actor; and there is no piece of dialogue without a voice over.

Graphics: The graphics are stunning; as good if not better than they graphics seen on the 360. The lighting, textures and detail is top class; I had no problems with any lag while running the game on its highest settings (however this was using a high end system).

Gameplay: The gameplay has vastly improved since the 360 version; the additional keys and greater mobility of the mouse allowing for a far faster level of gaming along with better group command options and a slicker UI. Movement is in your usual RPG format and interaction with objects and people is easy. As for the combat system; which admittedly, the in many RPGs can be slightly lackluster, this is not the case for Mass Effect, this game could certainly survive by itself as an FPS, however if you are an avid RPG player don't let this worry you, you can easily go an hour or so without meeting any "shoot to kill" enemies. Or if your interests flow the other way you can visit and uncharted planet and blow the hell out of aliens.

I bought the game after seeing the review it got in PC Zone; in which it recieved a 92% "Classic" rating. If you are interested in this buying this game or are being put off by the ill-informed 1 star reviews here I seriously suggest you read it. It's only negative point was too mention that the Mako; a vehicle you recieve in the game had handling difficulties. I can say with full confidence however that this is not the case; the car is easy, and fun, to use once you get the hang of it.

To cut a long story short; if you like this sort of game, and enjoyed Bioware's work on KOTOR then this is definitely the game for you. An instant classic, with a well thought out and original story with plenty of action in between,
