Amazon.co.uk Review A luscious island paradise might seem suitable for a relaxing holiday, but it also makes an ideal venue for off-road racing. The follow-up to MotorStorm trades the desert for golden beaches and verdant jungles that are as dangerous as they are beautiful. Stopping to admire the scenery is not a good idea | The tracks left by other cars remain for the whole race | The new four player splitscreen mode will be a party favourite | MotorStorm remains one of the PS3’s best looking exclusives | The basic setup of MotorStorm - Pacific Rift is familiar: 16 different drivers behind the wheel of vehicles ranging from monster trucks to speedy motorbikes. Race courses are only loosely laid out, and it’s completely up to you to pick the best route for your vehicle. Take the easy route, and you risk getting shunted off a cliff by your rivals. Or you could risk everything on a more dangerous shortcut. Some may be disappointed that this isn’t much more than a change of scenery from the first game, but when it looks this good, that’s not much of a problem. Key Features - Paradise found: The game offers some of the best graphics on the PS3 with amazing attention to detail, huge courses, and a fully destructible environment.
- Track listing: 16 new courses (twice as many as the original) range from beaches to jungle with rivers, lakes, and even hot lava acting as obstacles.
- Take your pick: Choose from eight types of vehicles, from motorbikes and ATVs to buggies, rally cars, and monster trucks--all of which can be used in the same race.
- Racebook: 16 player online multiplayer features a fully integrated Web service for file sharing and more.
- Split the difference: For the first time the game features a split screen multiplayer mode for up to four people, so you no longer have to be online to play friends.
About the developer: Evolution Studios Nobody can doubt the experience British developer Evolution Studios has with off-road racing games, with five World Rally Championship titles and the best selling PLAYSTATION 3 launch title: MotorStorm. Satellite studio Bigbig is also well known for the Pursuit Force series.

Motorstorm Demo - First impressions September 14, 2008 32 out of 38 found this review helpful
Having been one of the lucky few in Europe to be sent the free demo via an emailed code, I can safely say that Motorstorm Pacific Rift is living up to the hype. The demo lets you play one track, RainGod Spires, Single player or Two player, and I have to say the new setting makes a nice change from the previous Motorstorm's Dust and Dirt theme. The boost bar returns which, for those who haven't played the first motorstorm, increases the temperature of your vehicle the more you use it. If you use it too much, your vechicle will explode like it was transporting TNT, lol. Motorstorm Pacific Rift, builds upon this feature, by adding two new elements. It now includes water streams (and "car washes") to cool your vehicle down. But also has lava, which heats the vehicle up. These play a fundemental part to the games "Risk and Reward" style. The lava filled path may be the quickest across, but will your vehicle make it without exploding. Whilst the water filled path, may be the longest but you now have a cooler engine therefore you can boost! This type of decision making helps make each race feel different from the next. Motorstorm had a record breaking amount of different vechilce classes, and Motorstorm Paific Rift adds one more, The Monster Truck!! This, like all the other vehicle classes has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Whilst it can practically drive straight over any competing racers, it isn't the fastest vehicle class out there but it's up to you to play to the strengths of the class you've choosen. Everything is controlled the same as Motorstorm, with R2 accelerate, L2 brake and X being boost. But you can also "Ram" racers to the left or right by pressing R1 or L1 (left or right). You could previously only "attack" other divers if on an atv or bike (which is still available), so now you can have a fight with another car or truck. This is a very welcome addition, and is balanced out nicely by the fact that Ramming uses a bit of boost, to stop people ramming you constantly. Another addition is tha you can now bunny hop and duck on bikes, (and maybe atv's although I haven't played as one, so don't quote me on this, lol), controlled by pressing 'down then up', and 'down down' respectively. You'll let a small laugh out when you first duck under a low tree branch, lol, or bunny hop over another racer, or ram a racer off the edge of a cliff, the list goes on, and it's these types of moments that set the Motorstorm series apart from the rest. Last few points because I'm aware this is quite long, lol :P -The handling is just as brilliant, so if you crash it is most likely your fault. -The new crash sequences aren't as long as Motorstorm. -Multiplayer is fun although I'm not a big fan of the Vertical screen split, which is compulsory on the demo. Hopefully you can change on the actual game. -New features such as taking pictures of pause screen and in-game music was not available on the demo, therefore I cannot comment on them. Overall, I feel this is going to be just as successful as the original Motorstorm, if not more! And for just 30 quid on Amazon, you can't go wrong. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my opinion of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.
More of the same November 10, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Quick Review - if you have the first and liked it, what you waiting for this is better? For those new to Motorstorm this game is visually stunning, addictive and totally nuts. It's a true 'racing' game.
Longer Review - I thought Motorstorm was amazing when i first plugged in my PS3 many moons ago. The graphics on my 42" blew me away especially the opening sequence. Motorstorm Pacific Rift is pretty much more of the same, but don't let that put you off. Another amazing opening sequence, 16 tracks set over 4 distinct racing zones. Motorstorm lovers will be pleased to read the emphasis of speed still remains. Boy it's fast, too fast until course knowledge improves. Have still to play all the tracks and so far they are full of variety. As with the first, each track has more than one way to get through it, probably more so than Motorstorm. Graphics are what you'd expect and gameplay is just as fun. Some new vehicles and cool challenges. Online is good but still playing alone and can't say have spend considerable time online. The clincher for me is 4 players can play on the same screen (yes Motorstorm should have been released like this but this is progress). I have to admit though until you have course knowledge its a bit tough with 4 on the screen (screen divided into quarters) and i have a 42" screen. 2 player is a little easier and you can split the screen vertical or horizontal. The vehicles handle as well as you'd accept but you do need to get used to them, just like with the tracks. Quite simply i'm loving this game, more of the same but differnet enough to part with the cash. A rumble controller is a must, it gives great feedback, it even differs depending on what vehicle yr on.
A worthy game for the collection.
WOW! September 28, 2008 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am one of few who got a emailed code which lets you download this. It retains all the fun and great gameplay of the original. The taunts are less humorous but appart from that it just improves on the original. The graphics are much brighter with more colour and variety(the first was great but very brown). You can now ram opponents with L1 and R1 in any vehicle; which is very entertaining when you are a truck and you ram a bike. There are now monster trucks to play as. Although they are slow they are still hugeley entertaining to play as. The courses now have multiple routes to drive through which adds to the replay value. Clearly this is going to be one of the best ps3 racing games ever.

I've played the American verion of this game and I can tell you now, it is the best game out for the PS3 (released over here on 7th November). The first game was ace, but this one is so much better with so much more to do. Brilliant soundtrack as well! My favourite track is one by a band I've never heard of called The Planets. Seriously, this game is wonderful.
***** 5 STAR
Absolutely Thrilling Experience!!! November 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Motorstorm : Pacific Rift WOW! What a game! I dont normally write reviews but I was compelled to write one for this game because its absolutely brilliant and I had to share it with you guys because at around 40, its well worth it.
Firstly you get huge choice of tracks with multiple routes to get to the finish line. Secondly the choice of vehicles is great from a humble Motor Bike to a ginormous Monster Trucks. All these vehicle behave differently and have thier own Advantages and disadvantages. Its important to choose an appropriate vehicle with the right track and route to win the race.
To add more spice to the racing, you can taunt your fellow racers and RAM in to them to push them off the track/bridge/cliff. The best thing about Motorstorm is that its really addictive. You just dont get enough of it. With so many variations of vehicles and tracks you are bound to play it for a very very long time. And I have not even come to online mode or split screen mode yet. YES! unlike the first motorstorm game, Now you can play in split screen mode with upto three more mates ( 4 players in total). Now Online Mode! This is a totally different ball game. Its just Wicked! Its a totally different experience to Offline play( Yep! It does get better!) There is no love lost between players here. They will not spare you for making mistakes so practice a lot Offline before going online.
Overall! This is a must Buy in my opinion. I am not a 24/7 gamer but I believe that this game is a LITTLE difficult to Master. But Once you have than its FUN UNLIMITED! I think so highly of it that I would give it 6 Stars if possible So Go Buy It ! You will Love IT! See you Online in the Motorstorm Festival!
