jump on the Brain Train bandwaggon July 31, 2007 60 out of 61 found this review helpful
It all started with Prof. Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?, which has spawned several off-shoots and clones. Some are terrible (Mind Quiz in particular) but others aren't too bad; MindStorm is one of the latest, which does a fairly good job of turning exercising your brain into an enjoyable game. A limited selection of puzzles are available at different difficulty levels, which together claim to improve five areas of your brain: reason, endurance, analysis, intuition and observation.
The ten puzzle types on offer, which consist of classics like sliding block picture challenges and spot-the-difference, are adequately presented and jump wildly from being patronisingly simple to mind-bogglingly hard. The graphics are simple, yet functional.
Some of the puzzles can quickly become repetitive and uninspiring, and extended play of MindStorm may only appeal to hardcore puzzle fans. However, played in small doses there is no doubting that it is enjoyable, and some of the puzzles are quite original and make a welcome relief from the "remember the pattern and then repeat in the right order" kind that are fast becoming the norm.

I have to agree with the previous user. This game is poorly thought out and I am sure has not been tested thoroughly. I would not buy anything from this designer again.
A big dissapointment August 26, 2007 44 out of 45 found this review helpful
Had this game for a few days .. having played the other brain stretching games I find this one really frustrating , simplistic and annoying - for example each time you have finished a section , you need to go back to the starter page - where I am already fed up with being called "old bean" by the computer professor .Practically its not very reactive - there are puzzles where you have to turn shapes by tapping with the stylus, which don't react straight away, which means you run out of time - also some of the words have letters missing (an annoyance rather than a limitation)I know I am not the quickest at these games, so if you are like me ,I suggest you go for something else

I purchased this game without checking the reviews. In case the other reviews haven't told you, it's a poorly implemented clone of the Brain Training games. The games are of highly variable quality, and while some are amusing, the overall implementation is bad. In particular the stylus controls are awful - misreading the intent of the gamer. I cannot, for example, input the number '5' into the game, rotating game pieces (a common task) is unreliable, and some games require precision beyond the capability of the stylus. It is frustrating to fail at a puzzle because the interface will not correctly read your answer. This game pretends to be a 'brain training' exercise, but it is clear that the rating scheme used is a high-score system, not a measure of alertness. As a side-note, all the puzzles have a tight countdown timer on them - this game is not appropriate for those who think a little slowly, or prefer to enjoy games without time pressure. I have Brain Training and More Brain Training for the DS - stick with them as they are far superior to this lack-luster attempt.

Agree entirely with disappointed purchasers above, if fact mine had functional problems so it was returned to supplier not to be replaced.
