Very Pleased November 17, 2008 38 out of 38 found this review helpful
Have been looking around for a SatNav and compared many web offers. Not knowing what make to choose decided on TomTom and am so glad I did. From opening package to using the device in the car it took 5 minutes (its that easy).Went for the smaller TomTom ONE and not the larger screen XL.This screen works really well not sure why you would need a larger screen.Amazon beat all the rest on price and very fast delivery too, thanks!
Very good December 14, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The updates when you go the wrong way are instant. Well, 5 or 6 seconds. If it cannot find an alternative route, it does say 'Turn around when possible'. And this time it is telling the truth. It would be quicker to turn around. It is also very useful for getting to work on time. I have had no problems with this item. Better that most of the fitted Sat-Navs is some of the newer cars. And it covers all of Europe. The only downfall is it uses MS Windows OS. Linux is much faster when setting up a route and recalculating journeys. (Up to 1 second). There is also plenty of information on screen. But I have noticed the speed indicator is about 3mph out. So be careful out there. ;-) I am pleased with it.
Great little unit. December 26, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Used This Great Little Unit To Visit York a Few Days Back, Found the Tom Tom Really Helpful As i would of Never Have Found the Hotel Without it!. Strongly Reccomended Unit.
Smart Features Include - Reliable Speed Camera Database, Full Postcode Search, Nearest Places Of interest Eg Fuel, Shops, Hotels etc... And a Handy Where am I Function Which comes in Handy When ur Lost!!!!! Its a very simple and easy unit to setup and update (PC required for this option). As stated in previoud reviews the battery life is a bit poor however for short trips under 2hours long it should be enough to get you past without hunting out the car charger.
If Your looking for a sat Nav you can Trust Look No further Than the Tom Tom One.
Not so bad really... November 5, 2008 134 out of 135 found this review helpful
I actually agree 100% with "O. Hejazi" whose review was spot on. Ive been using sat-nav and especially TomToms since the first version of Tomtom was released for the XDA (When people looked at your car wondering what the hell was on your dash board!) The V4 Maps are good as usual, but as with every other sat nav manufacturer, not 100% up to date, but what do you expect?
I won't waffle on about the features, needless to say that for it's money the features are not too bad at all, and the camera database is pretty accurate (I use a Road Angel so can compare) - shame about the SD Socket but hey ho!
The battery life is, as mentioned, absolutely pants! SatNavs had 4 hour battery life 3-4 years ago so this is actually a step backwards in my opinion, especially with the battery technology out there! However, I am one of those that always plugs it in anyway through habit so it's not a major issue.
The rest is usual Tomtom quality - Very easy to use, well built, good clear instructions and I do like the new bracket. The "Help me" option is also handy, hopefully you won't have to use it though! - I was lucky enough to buy mine through a major shopping channel (sorry Amazon!) who offered a free map upgrade within the first year of purchase and one years car breakdown recovery thrown is so even more value (worth 70)
There are others brands out there but for it's price point, this is definately worth buying. Tomtom were probably the first major satnav brand to make it in the UK, and having tried numerous others, TomTom is pretty much No1 So if you want a very good, standard system with a few helpful extra's for around 100, then this is certainly worth the money.
Very Good, Very Simple, Best I have though always room for Improvement September 17, 2008 109 out of 112 found this review helpful
After 2 days spending on searching through review after review I decided to buy the new Tomtom V4...
...and I am very pleased so far after using it on about 20 trips.
Good Points:
the suction and holder are great and was very important to me as many reviews i read about bigger satnavs were falling off. I would like to re-assure you that you will break/bend the holder before it comes off. It has a twist which releases it and is great.
It has many features to play around with which is always great including many voices you can download, colour schemes etc.
Loads very quick and finds satelites very quick.
Connecting to the computer was a breaze on My XP Pro machine. I was very worried to do this and made a backup of it before i did as many reviews before said of the V3 that it corrupted their Sat Nav but it went through very well. Only once it said unable to connect to server but I clicked GO again and it was fine.
Navigation is easy and it does not keep saying "Keep to the Right" after every junction as reported on other Tomtom units.
Bad Points:
The Battery life is a joke. Only lasts around 60 to 90 minutes so you will most likely need to keep it plugged in if your going long distance.
No upgrade slot for Memory Card.
------------------------------------
The memory slot does not bother me at all as I am an IT field engineer in UK and the chances of me going abroad for work is none nor do I wish to use a sat nav when abroad. Other reviewers that complain about the route it takes you on are silly. It has Fastest route and shortest route. You cannot expect a sat nav to read your mind and take the routes you are used to plus its been set by YOU to go a particular way so it will do only that. If there is traffic I go short route and if I know its clear I go fast route, its simple. Yes they make mistakes too. I have had a Navman Before and a Garmin... all of them at some point get confused and make mistakes. though my new tomtom has been the one most up-to-date with speed cameras but mostly they make the same mistakes. If you expect a sat nav to be 100% then Sat Nav is not for you and you should get an A-Z so I suggest be Happy with it or make your own if you can make it better...
This would have got 5 stars if the battery was better...
