They work! November 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this after hesitating because of the price, and was dubiuos to think they may not work. But, after fitting them they do almost half the "banging on a cardboard box" noise the drums usually put out. Would recommend!
They work but they're a touch expensive. November 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you're looking at this product then you want quieter Rock Band drums. Thesde pads (made of a rubbery foam material) work well and significantly quieten the sound when playing they also do provide a good bt of spring back. They seem to be high quality and feel like they are not going to disintegrate any time soon (always a bonus). The pads also stick very well to the drums, no chance of them coming off.
Downsides? You do have to hit a little harder at the edges of the pads to register a hit (the center area is virtually unchanged with regard to the power required to register a hit). I didn't have an issue with this as I was already hitting hard but a few friends did.
Also, they are a touch expensive. If they ever come down to something like 9.99 then do not hesitate to pick them up. Anything over that though and you really should think whether you'll really get value for money from them.
Quieter, not silent January 2, 2009 This product certainly does reduce the sound of hitting the drum pads in Rock Band. It'd be wrong to say they silence it - no way could you hit something reasonably hard without making a noise - but they removing the annoying 'click' sound that you get with the regular drum pads. This means it's easier to hear the drum noise from the game and the sound of you hitting the pads is less intrusive.
Attaching the drum pads was easy and they look pretty good (better than the original gray plastic) although the lettering does wear after a few days of hitting them with sticks. This is a solid, not cheap, product - if you want the pad noise reduced they are worth the money, but don't expect the miracle of silent play... other players will still be aware of the sound of you thwacking along.
DIstinctly Average January 5, 2009 I bought these with my housemates in mind due to the noice of the basic rock band kit.
However, I've found that, yes they reduce the noise but they also reduce the sensitivity too. Without modifying the pads, they require a slightly harder hit which defeats the point as this produces more sound.
The pads cover all of the "drum hit area" and some of the rim therefore I have found manually cutting the pads to only go on the hit area has made the problem better. However, its not perfect and is still under-sensitive.
I've now given up on them and bough 3mm rubber ones which are much, much better.
