Viva Pinata is an amazing game. When people say 'dont be put off by the childish appearance' take their word for it. Its a colourful game, but by no means soley aimed at a younger audience. The games title 'trouble in paradise' should be a clue. A sexual innuendo in the title for a kids game is a little nod to older gamers, brothers and sister, mums and dads that will have to watch their kids playing this game (and secretly sneaking a go on the Xbox at 2am). Its also a hint at the sense of humour Rare have. It is a very intelligent game.
There is alot to do in Viva Pinata. It is hopelessly addictive. It has many levels of enjoyment. From just looking at how pretty the graphics are, to geting your green fingers dirty with some pretty hardcore management sim gameplay.
Managing your garden is so relaxing you just melt away. planting seeds, tending to your pinata. It is such a glorious waste of time.
It really is like one glorious drug trip. I spent hours of my life slumped infront of the TV, quite literally 'Chasing the Dragon' with the first game (a dragon being the rarest pinata). And the second one has much more to do.
Its one of those games where you will say 'Just five more minutes'. Then you spend the next three hours just planting seeds, watering plants, digging ponds, breeding pinata, harvesting your produce and other 'two minute tasks' that all combine into a night of time down the drain. Its another world in that garden and its very easy to loose yourself!
Some of the more challenging aspects of this game aren't aimed at children either. Attracting rare pinata and discovering secrets is difficult, time consuming and sometimes frustrating. It has a good balance though, some easy stuff for kids early on, but it can also be very rewarding for older more experienced gamers who want to rinse out all the game has to offer. It really is a game of experimentation and discovery that I think won't be fully appreciated by younger gamers alone.
Overall a very rewarding game full of things to discover. Most young children will only scratch the surfice of this deeply enjoyable experience. Only gamers Patient and curious enough (and man enough to express their love for pinata) will get the most out of this game.
Good game shame about live vision September 8, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Yes this is a good game i enjoyed the first one also, it can seem a tad childish but still enjoyable none the less.
the first game had some problems with the controls but they have sorted most of these out.
my only problem is the the live vision system, it's good when it works but i seem to have trouble getting it to scan stuff in,
all and all a good game and really good value! i mean a brand new 360 game for around 30 well worth a buy
Welcome back to Pinata Island! September 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After hearing a sequel to Viva Pinata was in the pipeline I became intrigued to know how Rare intended to improve on the original. In my opinion the original was near flawless in execution providing me - an Adult - hours of fun for what is considered a kids games.
My first impressions with Trouble in Paradise are very positive. Rare have shown a dedication to their fans by not fixing, what was not broken. They've left the basic controls the same, with some additional improvements (e.g the repetitive nature of buying and planting seeds). The number and variety of Pinata's has also increased significantly, and right from the start players of the original game will get to see and play with these new creatures. Again the basic concept of the original game remains unchanged, with the exception that the "Party" pinata tasks have been considerably revampped. Before they seemed largely irrelevant and an unneccessary distraction now they contribute significantly to the introduction and romancing of the new species particularly in the new desert and arctic "visiting" gardens.
This game is really addictive and grows on you quickly. Don't let the cutesy nature fool you either. Even the most seasoned of gamers will struggle to see all of the Pinata's in the game - and I don't believe it will be for the want of tryiny as there is enough variety and achievements to play this for 80+ hours. You've been warned!
