Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Microsoft's original civilian flight sim is still clocking up the air miles with the most significant sequel for years and a genuine attempt to make it more accessible for non-propellerheads.

The lowdown:
While almost all other flight simulators have fallen from grace on the PC, Microsoft have never given up on the genre with a game that's as ruthlessly realistic as it is completely free of any kind of violence. Every major, and minor, airport in the world is simulated and every major city has its share of recognisable landmarks, allowing you to fly anywhere in the world. There's a huge range of different aircraft to fly too: from jumbo jets and seaplanes to helicopters and everything in between. The only problem is that the game needs a seriously powerful PC to run at full whack, but even on lower detail levels this is still a stunning achievement.

Most exciting moment:
Despite the realism, the game isn't all dry simulation. There are a lot of fun missions to try out, including acting as a Hollywood stuntman, going on search and rescue flights, fighting fires and even flying over the infamous Area 51.

Since you ask:
The deluxe version of the game includes more cities, airports and aircraft as a well as an extra series of twenty-odd missions. There are also some additional multiplayer options, including the chance to share aircraft and have a go in the control tower.

The bottom line:
The most realistic commercial flight sim ever. Again.-HARRISON DENT

5 out of 5 stars Flight simulator x detailed review   May 5, 2007

I have just baught the game off amazon and would like to help the future buyers know what they are getting. you may have viewed the video (on this page of flight simulator x) and be amazed by the quality of the sim. dont be fooled by other peoples reviews on here saying "we dont all have a super computer like bill gates" and letting you down thinking you cant run it. i have installed it on both of my pc's.
1st pc has 2.8ghz intel duel core, 1gb ram, 300gb hdd, and a 512mb graphics card. i can run the game on ultra high settings with no glitches or pauses working with no problems this is full on graphics, detail, scenery, weather etc. my other pc is intel 2.6ghz, 1gb ram, 256mb graphics card and 2x80gb hdd. on the 2nd pc i can run the sim on medium high settings (which is about 3/4's of the full settings on graphics, detail, scenery, weather etc) and runs with no glitches or pauses... i cant say i have tryed the settings higher yet but it may handel a little more. the system spec's on the game case say; at least windows xp or vista, 1ghz or higher, 15gb hdd, 32mb graphics card... i am sure with the lowest spec's even with lowest graphic settings the game will pause and have glitches... very demanding on graphics, BUT if you have any pc with (in my mind) atleast 1.8ghz, windows xp, 256/512mb ram, 64/128mb graphics card you will see a good view from the game. if you have the spec or higher than my 1st pc then definatly buy this... you wont be dissapointed. i hope i have helped people with any questions about this, and be warned... you WILL NEED A DVD ROM!!! wont work with a normal cd-rom. have fun. edd

Hello!
dont get carried away by what it looks like on the trailor. theres no real change in the 'scenery' but it is better i must say. the aircraft are better and there are more functions however nothing too amazing. yes you get ground moving vehicles and you get airport vehicles but still you are flying an aircraft pasengerless! isnt this the whole point of flying? you have baggage handling carts but no moving luggage.. there are only two vehicles that interact with the aircraft and that is the tug and the fuelling lorry. o well! other than that its great! :-)! might take up masses of room on your computer but thats not a problem. its a good game might not of been worth the long wait but atleast its a step in the right direction.. maybe i am wrong about the passesngers maybe microsoft have made an addon for them. i hope this review is useful for you people out there.

o btw, iv looked for seagulls and birds but there arent any.. and elephants? nope you've got boats though!

I have a vista dual core athlon x64, 2 gig RAM and GeForce7600GT gfx card.. not a top end system but ok. I wasn't sure it would run after reading various reviews on here but i bought it anyway. Installed it, added the service pack 1 and popped everthing to medium.. ran fine.. so slowly increased the settings. I now have everything at HIGH levels apart form the weather and general setting (i don't remember the exact setting name) which are both at ultra high. It looks and plays great!!! I think the service pack 1 forces the game to utilise dual core, it would be interesting to see how it ran without SP1.

I've not owned this game since i had a version on an Atari ST years ago and wow it's moved on. My housemate is a trainee pilot and he was amazed at the detail and flight characteristics.

If you're thinking of getting this game and you have a dual core vista machine.. get it! If you're thinking of getting it and you don't have dual core.. upgrade now!!

5 out of 5 stars The Real Reason Why Planes Were Made   August 16, 2008
This game is amazing! I was stunned when I bought this, the snow lanscapes are truly stunning! Every time you go on it you want to explore the world! One minute i was flying over the pyramids over Egypt the next minute i was travelling to the alps! Seriously if you are a trainer pilot or a person who loves viewing the landscapes in the air, then this game is certainly for you! (make sure you have the required hard drive space (15GB) otherwise your experience my not be so good) honestly this game is amazing, 5/5.

5 out of 5 stars A stunner   December 9, 2008
I have never used a flight simulator before so I did not know what to expect. It took about 15mins to load and I took a free flight and loved every second of it. As some reviews state you do need quite a powerful computer to do the game justice but it is worth the investment. It will take time to learn all the controls and features (even though I have a joystick) but then again who wants a game that can be finished in 5mins.
