Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is the first game built around the legendary music of America's greatest rock `n' roll band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer. Fans will experience Aerosmith's GRAMMY award winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers. As players progress through the game, they can rock out to the band's greatest hits, as well as songs from other celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way. Venues from historical moments during the band's illustrious career offer the experience of "sweet emotion" and further capture the essence of the band's rise to fame.

KEY FEATURES:

Let the music do the talking - The collaboration offers consumers an unprecedented level of access to Aerosmith's music catalogue and an unbeatable soundtrack, with every Aerosmith song being a master recording. Each set includes chart-topping hits from renowned artists that the band has either performed with, or has been inspired by.

Rock this way, talk this way - Relive rock `n' roll history and witness all five members of Aerosmith in all their glory. Motion capture sessions with each member of the band - including extensive facial motion capture featuring Steven Tyler's lip movements to every song - further deepens the experience. Additionally, multiple memorable outfits capture the band's rise to rock royalty, enabling players to feel like they're really experiencing those historic performances.

It started with a little kiss, like this - Completely redesigned venues featuring locations from historical moments in the band's career offers fans the opportunity to live the Aerosmith life. Starting with their first-ever concert at Nipmuc High School players ascend to the pinnacle of rock stardom.

Bass in the place - Enjoy the ultimate party experience in the Co-op quickplay game mode and shred as Joe Perry, Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton or select your favourite fictional Guitar Hero.

5 out of 5 stars Aerosmith   June 28, 2008

First of all a word of advice. Before you play any songs check your audio levels. The defaults are ridiculous with the band barely audible at all and the guitar drowned out by sound FX. So sort this first. Also this game is an extension of GH. So you don't need to buy a new controller.
If you've played guitar hero before you'll know exactly what to expect game play wise. The difference here of course being the dedication to Aeromith. However Aerosmith isn't the only band on there. In an ingenious attempt to keep variety you also play 2 songs on each stage as the opening act. It really works very well and ensures the game doesn't get too samey.
The introductory videos for each stage feature snippets from interviews with the band members and set the scene for the stage you are about to play. This is a lot better than Legends Of Rock when you had those stupid, boring animated videos.
Those of you who bought the Wii version of Legends Of Rock may also remember how terrible the graphics were. Well in this instalment that is much improved thankfully.

A great idea that became a great game. ROCK ON!

5 out of 5 stars Does what it says   November 29, 2008
It does exactly what it says on the tin, its guitar hero aerosmith!

There are some notable songs missing - Crazy, Dude looks like a Lady and (i will whisper) Dont wanna miss a thing! However, in all honesty I dont know how much fun these songs would have been to play anyway, they are good songs to sing, but maybe not so much play on guitar.

I would say that some of the songs are repetitive, but that is to be expected playing a game that is mostly made up of one band's hits. There is a mixture of some other artists ... . The Clash, The Kinks and Cheap Trick (about 12 non aerosmith songs).

Overall, I will echo what other reviews have said.....if you like Guitar Hero and Aerosmith, then go for it!

4 out of 5 stars GH: Aerosmith   June 28, 2008

Having been a big fan of the original Guitar Hero games I picked this up without a second thought and I do not regret it.

There are a few things that make this different to GH3 that I feel I should point out, namely;

Gameplay - The game engine has been modified since Guitar Hero 3 and the most notable thing straight away is that the timing window for hammer ons and pulloffs is a lot smaller. I noticed a reviewer before said that some of them don't work sometimes - which isn't true - they are working as they should be (ie. you hit the HO/PO as a normal note at the right time). Previously, you could hold down the fret for 10 seconds and it would hit the note which, whilst making the game a little easier is not exactly how they are supposed to work.

Graphics - have been updated slightly although because this is the Wii version they are nowhere near as fancy as the PS3 or 360 versions but let's be honest - if you took the time to admire the graphics you'd be missing the notes and the whole point of the game! I must say though seeing Steven Tylers' enormous pixelated mouth up close is very distracting when trying to get through a solo.

Songs - There are only 41 songs in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith compared to GH3's 73 as well as numerous downloadable songs (that the Wii does not have access to) and platform specific bonus tracks.

As a non Aerosmith fan I found around 30 of the songs enjoyable while the rest were quite repetitive, boring or just not my style. Guitar Hero 3's mix of different styles was enjoyable and there were a lot of songs I would go back to just because it was an awesome song. With Guitar Hero: Aerosmith however I can only think of 3 or 4 songs that I actually like enough to do that.

Overall I would rate Guitar Hero: Aerosmith as a very good game that is well deserving of your money IF:

1) You love Guitar Hero OR
2) You love Aerosmith

If not however, I would recommend buying Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock and picking up this game later on.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing!   July 1, 2008

As a fan of both Guitar Hero 3 (GH3) and Aerosmith I was looking forward to the release of this game with some excitement.

Fans of GH3 won't be surprised by the look and feel of the game; as you might expect it's little more than GH3 with different songs and tweaked graphics.

The first surprise came when I started working through the Easy career mode. It feels like they've taken Easy from GH3 and dumbed it down, making it even easier. Less notes, feels slower, less interesting to play. It seems far easier to score 100% on songs.

The second was when I realised how few songs the game contained - approximately 30 fewer than GH3. With such a large catalogue of material to draw from it's a shame that there are so few songs in the game.

After having played GH3 and eagerly anticipated this follow-up my overall feeling is disappointment. This game could have been an amazing Aerosmith-fest, packed full of great songs.

With no downloadable content on the Wii there's no way that this deficit can be reduced.

GH3 is a 5-star game. Guitar Hero Arosmith is not.

3 out of 5 stars A neat little filler before World Tour.   July 10, 2008

Yes, it's Aerosmith. That alone nearly dissuaded me from buying it but they're a guilty pleasure and when you nail the solo from Run DMC's version of Walk This Way, it still gives that all-important buzz (it did for me at least!).

The tracklisting split between the title band and the rest is about 70/30. Along with Aerosmith you get songs from The Clash (hurrah!), Lenny Kravitz (*shiver*) and Stone Temple Pilots (aw yeah...). It's a reasonable selection but unless you're a riffaholic, I'd suggest waiting for Guitar Hero: World Tour, which is released in October/November. And that game has The Eagles and Sublime to look forward to as well as the whole band thang a la, erm...Rock Band.

So, there you are. If you're still angry about no downloadable content for Guitar Hero 3 and just can't take it any longer, this should tide you over. Just look around for a good deal because this is not worth the full asking price.

And one more thing. Where on earth is Dude (Looks Like A Lady)?!
