Great stuff from Konami! November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having previously owned only PES4,but played all the others, i found this new game to be a brilliant addition to the series. The gameplay is great, and although you still can't win free-kicks it seems, i am still addicted by it.
Even though only two prem teams are licensed, the new image importation option and the great kit realisms to the real thing mean you can practically licence all the other teams.
The edit mode is great overall with the ability to make new players very lifelike and you can change the kits brilliantly well, just like previous editions.
The become a legend mode is a great feature, as is the new Champions League mode.
Overall, a fantastic addition to the series, I AM ADDICTED!

I fail to understand all the criticism. Get a wireless x-box 360 controller for your PC, plug in and play. The graphics have been criticised a few times for some reason but I think they look great: good player likenesses and a crisp, clean overall look. The gameplay is vastly superior to the last version and it plays an excellent game of football. The 50-50 challenges are NOT always won by the computer; you must be doing something badly wrong as for me they are dependant on the player's strength and skill. Defending is good: cover the passes, close the space. When they score you don't feel cheated, it feels like you made a mistake and was punished. Attacking is also well done: through balls are not always pefect but that adds to the realism (even Stevie G gets a few wrong!). Shooting takes a bit of getting used to but becomes second nature and creates some great moments. Crossing and heading is much improved on older versions and it all feels smooth and right. And in terms of the argument about how many teams are licenced: its a daft argument. The player names are spot on and it is just club names and badges that are not official. The solution is not to buy FIFA - just patch it! You own a PC, the patch exists - dowload it...no more whinging! Overall this comes highly reccomended. The excellent menus and presentation adds the the wondeful game of football it plays. If you love and understand football - buy this. If you don't, cant stand sometimes losing or are under the age of 12 - buy FIFA.
PES 2009 (full game) October 21, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have been playing the NEW game for a few days now. I have played pes and fifa games for over 10yrs on various consoles and for the last few years on PC. This year the look of the game has hardly changed. Slighty clearer graphics (stadiums good) but not as good as FIFA 09 (which i have also been playing). The new Champions league mode is good but hasnt been incorperated into the Master League (shame). All the other features of old, Leagues, Cups are the same. Be a Legend is a New feature. You enter yourself at 17yrs old into any role in a team (attacking winger for me) and you have to play boring training matches and do well (these actually improved my general play). You then get picked if your good enough for first team matches, offers from other clubs and international call ups come in, etc, etc..
The Plus point is the gameplay.. Its a lot slower and geared around possession football. Your passes need to be aimed better and dont travel as far. Shots from outside/near the box need to be more prescise and the feel of the game for me is a lot better than last year. Comparing it to FIFA 09 it losses on Presentation, Graphics, Sound and the big factor licences for teams/players/competions etc. But it makes up for it in 'realism' and the new Be a Legend feature is novel but becomes very addictive. Scoring a goal is so much more rewarding than on Fifa and with the amount of patches available to tweak your game (evo web & gaming access web site) you can soon have all the correct names, etc
If this came out the box with the fifa presentation i would give it FIVE stars. As it stands its still worth the money for real football on PC...
Demo Review October 12, 2008 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
So here we are again, ready for another Konami offering of PES. Keep in mind that i have only played the demo (pc) so i won't get too excited here!
I can understand the complaints people had over PES 2008 - yes it had bugs but overall, i felt the series was taking positive steps forward. This year, the ref's decisions are better and helps improve game flow. Offside decisions are still late but you could argue this is realistic!! As for teamplay, your teammates run into space better often holding up their hands for possession. I was able to play a lofted through ball from one side of the pitch to the other with relative ease. I think this game can be a big success if the public are patient with it.
Overall, a good demo and i look forward to the full release on friday.
Not as expected... October 18, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
Pro evo used to be the dominant football game over the last few years. Even without licenses KONAMI kept up with the market and always had a foot before Fifa. However Pes2009 failed to overcome Fifa 09.
Even though the graphics are more detailed in Pro, Fifa triumphed due to its licenses, skills and alot of new stuff.
Pro Evo has most of the extras Fifa 09 had. A legendary mode in which you control just one player and take a picture of yourself to make his face look like you.
There are some bugs ingame but not major ones.
Overall I will be playing this rather than Fifa 09 (on the computer)
