5 out of 5 stars Having played the game at a Midway press conference   August 13, 2008

Having played the game at a Midway press conference, all I can say is I was very impressed.

The gameplay is fluid, and light years ahead of the Smack down vs. Raw series. This game is going to be the best wrestling game since No Mercy on the N64.

The new options are fantastic especially the Ultimate X match, this is by far the best type of match I have ever played on a wrestling game. Lots of the TNA roster put a lot of effort into building this game, both through motion capture (which is obvious from how good the game looks) to the drawing board stage. These young guys like the champion Joe, and AJ Styles are hardcore gamer so know what gamers want, and their influence is clear and certainly paid off.

I would highly recommend this title, even based on the early version I played. I would recommend it no only to TNA fans, and not just WWE fans either (even though there is a lot for you as well with familiar faces such as Kurt Angle, Christian, Booker T, Rhino, Scott Steiner, The Dudley boys (Team 3D), Jeff Jarret, Sting, Christy Hemme and Tomko in the game) But to any fans of fighting games in general. You could even go as far to recommend it to all gamers, even if the fighting genre is not your think you may wish to check out this title because it really is a breath of fresh air, and an all round good game.

You can be confident it will be money ell spent, happy grappling.

4 out of 5 stars Good game for a first try   September 14, 2008

Obviously this wasn't going to be as huge as Smackdown, they have a bigger staff, bigger budget and a lot more experience (they've been making them since 2000) so straight off the bat if you're going to compare the two then you are gonna be dissapointed as SD as alot more features and options to play with.

I think as a stand alone game, this is a fun game for any TNA fan, or any wrestling fan for that matter, unless you're one of those kids who are die-hard WWE fans and live and die by it and won't accept any other wrestling (check out the 1 star reviews for an example) and it lays a solid foundation for future games where the improvements will be made.

The one thing that I was dissapointed in was that there is NO CAW in the PS2 version for some reason, and the tag team matches can be quite frustrating as the A.I. is quite stupid and there is just one camera angle that is far away from the ring.

Apart from those tag matches, I have enjoyed the Story mode thus far, its something completely different and quite fun, although I can see alot of people being dissapointed that when they start the game up and see all the "Locked" characters they will excited that their favourite star might be there, only to find that they have unlocked some unknown jobber like "Bruiser Belencia" or "Demonic DJ" - Really, who is going to want to play as those characters??

4 out of 5 stars Better than I thought   September 15, 2008

To be honest with you I didn't know what to expect.
Since I was playing the PS2 version (not enough pennies to get a newer console yet) I was expecting something like the early Smackdown games Like Know Your Role, and that's pretty much what I got.

I agree with the guy you had a quick dig at the unlockable characters being the small jobbers that you do up against early on, felt like they could have been wrester versions of other Midway Characters.
Did feel a little let down by the fact you couldn't create your own wrestler, would've been fun to have WWE wrestlers in the TNA ring. Also, misses not beaing able to have title defences in the ehibition games. But then again, TNA are just finding their feet when it comes to gaming and I'm glad it's not a Smackdown clone.

If you want TNA wrestlers to have title defences best make them up on Smackdown, untill TNA2 comes out.

A good game is you forget about Smackdown vrs Raw
