a thrilling title for the 360 February 23, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Hi,
Im an avid gamer and played hundreds if not thousands of games over the years. Although I have only owned the title for a day my honeymoon period with it is far from over however this is what I think of the game so far... Ive waited long and hard for this title and here is what I think so far...
Graphics: The graphics are not what you would expect from a game. It kind of reminds me of xenogears which was an american title for the playstation 1. Its almost like you are playing a cartoon which is not only different. But surprisingly cool and entertaining. The character motions are very fluid which is what you would expect from the 360. The lighting effects are also worth mentioning here, the game is very detailed and very atmospheric
Gameplay: Great fun! If your a lover of the GTA series, this seriously wont disappoint. The controls are extremely easy to pick up, youll have them to a T in almost 10 minutes. The great thing with the controls is although they are easy, they are not limited. Youll find yourself stringing together different moves with different aspects such as driving off a tall building, diving out of the car before blowing it up with a rocket launcher, couple that with the flowing graphics and you can have hours of fun just messing around. This brings me onto another point. Unlike GTA which got a bit repetitive and boring quite quickly, this seems to just have a lot more to it. Im sure you have read the other customer reviews and as they have stated, your character builds up over time allowing you to run further, lift heavier objects and jump much much higher. This opens up a whole new spectrum as you graduly get to explore more and more of the game, collection power orbs as you go further progressing your character.
Shooting: Ok, its very entertaining, though its not the most refined part of the game. That said, its a massive improvement from the GTA series. In GTA you could almost comically spin round with a machine gun killing almost everyone in seconds. These days are long gone in Crackdown. Its much harder to kill the enemies. Quite often, you will gun someone down and they will fall to the floor, youll move up still shooting only to realise the guy rolling on the floor in pain, has gotten up, found himself a gun and is shooting at you again, to stop this happeneing, gun him to the floor and simply throw him and your pursuers. You can shoot enemies in different parts of the body. If someone has a powerful weapon, you can shoot the arms and they will drop it, or if someone is running away, you can shoot them in the leg to slow them down and so forth. Another important part of the shooting is that you can lock onto a vehicle and target a specific part such as the tires. This is great if you have a car going at high speed and you hit the tyres, the car will spin and roll almost like a movie, again with the catoon style graphics this looks awesome especially when you hit the gas tank as its in mid air. Nice
Driving: This is one of the best aspects of the game, I think the car handling is amazing, 100times better than any of the GTA's... when you gun your car the handling is hard and once you have a blown tyre, you have to tap the gas on and off to keep it going straight or youll just spin all over the place. As you progress and your driving skills become more honed, your agency cars will transform once you enter them, this just adds some satisfaction for your efforts at hitting those hidden stunts all over the game. Unfortunately I have a lot more to find out about the driving but the physics are spot on, not to mention the cars looking Uber cool. Microsoft have definately gone to town with the cars, it could be a driving game in itself.
Thats about all I can say for it right now, there is a lot more for me to find out myself, alls I can really say is if you were into GTA (remember when GTA went 3D!? ;-) , youll love this game, Ill give it 9/10 just because of the shooting dynamics. But, awesome title, lots of re-playability especially as they have included co-op in the game.
Hours of fun, highly reccommended.
Blinding, probably the best yet for 360 February 26, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Got this game on release date and was very excited about the Halo 3 Beta.
Loaded this game up, haven't even looked at Halo 3 yet!! Crackdown is awesome. Remember how much fun the GTA games were and how cool it was when you first played them. This is just like that but with much better aspects. This game is massively addictive. Having the ability to jump heights and distance, and climb buildings brings a whole new dimension to the game. The missions are brilliant and the gameplay is smooth and flawless. The cars are fantastic and you have all of the extra features like GTA did, such as stunt jumps, secondary missions, hidden packages and challenges!!
WOW! Gears of War was blinding, Rainbow 6 was spectacular, but Crackdown really makes me wanna go back for more an more. The cities are massive and there is so much to explore.
This game is really fun and there's something about being able to clear 100ft roof gaps and pick up cars for weapons that is so cool and addictive.
A must for any gamers collection, and definately one for entertainment value when you've got the boys over - just like GTA.
Superb March 1, 2007 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is an amazing game, i bought it the day after it came out after reading the review in Official Xbox magazine and playing the game on Xbox live. At first it didnt blow me away, but as i played on and my skills like agility improved, i couldn't stop playing the thing! When you upgrade the level, You can jump higher, bridging those rooftop gaps that you couldn't reach before, there is a true feeling of skill when you land an amazing height and an amazing distance!!! the handling of the cars is an important factor of the game and they have done it brilliantly, as it is such a big place, and after your skill increases the cars become outstandingly fast and look great
The downside is that the missions aren't varied enough to games like GTA. I've only just got a xbox and its by far the best ive seen. Superb gameplay!!! You have to buy this!!!!!!!!!
I'm confused into thinking I'm playing Saints Row April 23, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
A couple of weeks ago I bought Saints Row which is an incredible in depth example of how a game should be with crowd reactions and amazing scenarios. Now I have bought Crackdown and more of the same only with bionics. I just love shooting the barrels of some sort of radioactive substances to watch the explosions it is just brilliant. Not sure of the problem of the targeting system, I have not had any problems at all and I am hopeless at this sort of game. So far not come across any main villains but love smashing up the cars. Great fun aggressive game. Go get it.
Excellent February 23, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Many people have described this as a bad GTA clone. It is not GTA and honestly doesnt really try to be GTA. The main premise of the game is to go around the city, anywhere, and do anything. You then get updated on where the next crime lord is and then you go and deal some pain inducing death to the crime lord and his minions. The jumping has to be played to be believed. Actually feels like you are in a Matrix film(the ground even cracks when you land after a high jump). As you play and kill gang members and crime lords your abilities get upgraded. starting from enhanced firearm usage to the excellent enhanced jumping ability, which allows you to jump farther, longer, and higher. The many different vehicles in the game can be jumped in and out of a la GTA,and most provide different handling, from the superfast sports police car to the jeep looking police vehicle that lets you driveover everything. The negative points are that you cannot really drive around without constantly running in to gang members who chase you, shoot you etc. Cant even walk down the street without it turning into a john woo shoot fest. Also even though there are a few weapons, they all seem to do the same old thing with no variation.
Overall an excellent game, and also....i forgot the Halo 3 beta. Guess that will help sell a few copies. but in its own right the game is good enough to sell itself.
