5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   July 12, 2007

I bought a Sony Walkman a few years back and for some reason whatever earphones that came with any CD or MP3 player I have ever bought never are able to sit in my ears.
I bought these headphones for myself near Christmas and for the past 7 months I haven't had a single complaint about them. They fit perfectly in my ear because of the changeable ear plugs and the sound quality is fantastic as you aren't losing any volume. They don't fall out at all unlike others even when running or cycling.

Well worth the money!

5 out of 5 stars buyer beware!   October 2, 2007

I bought a pair of cx300s a few weeks ago from Amazon market place for about 7, and to say that i was disapointed is an understatement - they were awful. i should of sent them back, but they did seem to improve a little, and with some cds they were almost acceptable, although the complete lack of bass could only be overcome by judicious use of the equalizer.

last night, i was doing some online research, when i came across the possibility that they were counterfeit. i compared all of the criteria, and they passed every one, suggesting that they were genuine, but they still sounded awful. Today, i bit the bullet & bought a new retail set. WOW!!! these headphones are AWESOME. With the equaliser flat, there is bass by the shedfull, yet the middle & treble are bright & clear. the new ones look identical, but audio wise, they are universes apart.

You may be tempted to buy cheap, and maybe there are genuine cx300s being sold cheap. Just don't say that you haven't been warned!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent headphones but make sure you use the right ear pads!   November 22, 2007

I have avoided the ear canal type headphones for a long time but after my latest headphones broke I looked around and found that most companies are concentrating on the ear canal types so decided to give them a go.

After being a happy Sennheiser customer for years I decided to go with the CX300's after reading other customer reviews. I made sure that I bought from Amazon's main store rather than the cheap marketplace versions as I have tried some fake CX300's off Ebay and they are awful.

The best tip I could give is to find the best fitting of the three supplied ear pads and to ensure that the headphones are securely in your ears. I went for the medium ones at first but found they were coming out of my ears with the slightest pull on the cable. The larger ones were fine, making the phones stay in my ears and also making sure of no sound escaping. It's important to push the headphones right into your ears as the bass tends to be the thing that suffers when the phones are not pushed in well.

If you are not used to these style of headphones then beware that as they are right in your ears you can hear things that you might not normally hear with headphones If you are walking and listening you can hear every footstep reverberating through your body! Furthermore, if you are eating you can hear every sound from inside your mouth very clearly! It's weird but part and parcel of using these sort of headphones I'm afraid!

Once the headphones are fitted well the sound quality is very rewarding with great bass, excellent bright treble and the biggest bonus for me was hearing midrange sounds of things like guitars and keyboards which is where you truly hear parts of the music you will have never heard before. Some people might say that the sound is bordering on harsh but I think it's exciting and involving.

I have also tried some Sony MDR-EX71SLB headphones that a friend owned, which were great but gave a more warm and subtle sound and that might be more to some people's taste. One way in which the CX300's are better than the Sonys are with regards to the volume levels as the output is much higher. As a result you don't need to pump up your volume control so much and use more battery power.

Lastly the cable length of 1.2 metres is ideal for me after owning Sennheisers with 1.0 metre lengths which is too short

Bottom line - Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Great headphones (although they're not for everone)   October 11, 2007

These are the best headphones I have ever owned and at the current price I have no hesitation in giving them five stars.

They fit right into your ear canal and are very comfortable to wear. The rubber bit that goes inside your ear is made from soft rubber and actually takes the shape of the inside of your ear so you can't really feel them whilst they are in.

They are a bit strange to wear at first. You know you are wearing them properly when you get the same sensation as when your ears are all blocked up (to simulate the effect just stick your fingers in your ears).

The sound is crystal clear with a thumping bass sound and everything I've heard through them so far sounds as if I'm hearing it again for the first time as I can hear things I never noticed before.

Not only that but I'm now also listening to my music at a lower volume level than I was before (which can only be a good thing).

I mainly use mine for the commute to work and the final plus point is that because of the way these headphones block up your ears the noises you would normally still hear whilst wearing other headphones (such as the noise of a bus engine or other passengers talking) is now barely noticable.

However these headphones are not for everyone...

You see, because these headphones totally block your ears it means you can hear everything that goes on inside your head that you wouldn't normally hear.

So if you are wearing these headphones and decide to eat or hum along to the music then the music will suddenly be drowned out by the racket you are now making inside your own head (to simulate stick your fingers in your ear and eat or hum).

As I said above I use mine for the commute to work so I'm sitting down or standing still for most of the time. I've noticed though that whilst walking (or running for the bus) you can hear the dull thumping noise of your feet hitting the pavement passing up through your body up to your head.

As I don't exercise I can't say for sure but I can only imagine that the constant "thump, thump, thump" sound as you went for a jog would really distract you from enjoying your music (if you want to simulate what I am talking about then again stick your fingers in your ears and jog on the spot).

So it's still five stars from me as I do none of the above and they sound amazing but if you like to eat, hum along to the music or go for a jog whilst listening to your headphones I would probably avoid them.

Exact same thing happened to me - placed them aside as my sonys sounded better then decided to give them another go with different buds and have recommended them to anybody who will listen :)

DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY AS 99% OF THEM ARE FAKE !
