5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Superb   October 12, 2002

I thought for 3 months before i got my Gamecube. I was trying to think weather i should get an XBox, Gamecube or an upgrade to a ti4200 graphics card for my PC. In the end i chose the Gamecube, and i have to say it was the best decision i've made in my life. When i got it home, i had Rogue Leader with it, i booted it up and i was absolutely stunned, the graphics were immensly good with almost no slowdown. I've now had it for around 2 months, and its just got better and better. From Resident Evil to Tony Hawks to Super Mario Sunshine, each game i buy is another leap forward for fun and excitement. With all the great titles coming up for it aswell (Im most excited about RE0/4 and Eternal Darkness, but there are many more, beleive me, this is Nintendo). I used to be an AVID Sony fan, i wouldve gone to hell and back with them (well maybe not quite but still...) but now im a complete convert. As for the other consoles, they all have their merits. Second best in my opinion is PS2 because it has an excellent catagory of games, and thrid is xbox because the only merit for this that i can find are graphics. Now i admit its a very powerful and graphically impressive machine, but thats about where it ends...and its not streets ahead, you may have heard quotes of 125 million pixels/sec for XBox and 6-12 million for Gamecube, this is not true, as the XBox measure is on flat shaded, no effects pixels, and the Gamecube one is on fully textures, bump mapped, lighted (you name it) pixels...

If you think its a kiddies console, think again, im 17 and i love it and would recommend it to anyone, ESPECIALLY adults and teenagers.

To sum up, go for whats best for you. If you cant live without HALO, then get an XBox, although i wouldnt recommend it. If you want safety, stability and some admittedly excellent games, get a PS2, although again, i wouldnt recommend it. However, if you want to be wowed, have innovative and exciting games, aswell as superb graphics, take a little risk and take the Gamecube, because beleive me, it has a bright future ahead....

The Cube is here!Nintendo's tiny box of tricks is a joy to use. When you turn it on the menus are all in cubes on screen and the controller(best on the market) does the design talents of Shigeru Miyamoto proud(but then we all knew that he's talented)! Its games that make a console though and my launch title purchase was Rogue Squadron 2.It looks good enough to eat and if you're a StarWars fan it's a slice of gaming heaven(if you don't like StarWars it's still worthy of purchase). The Cube aint gonna break the bank so buy one!(Remember Nintendo make the greatest games)

5 out of 5 stars The most fun bit of gadgetry ever invented   December 25, 2002

The GameCube may not be the most hip console, or the biggest seller but it is, without question, the most fun. I own a GameCube and a PS2 and the PS2 has been relegated to a decoration and a spare DVD player ever since I bought Nintendo's funky little console.

Nintendo have always produced original games of the highest quality. The range of games on the GameCube is astonishing. It not only has ports of fantastic titles like Medal Of Honour, Tony Hawks Pro Skater, Burnout and the revamped Resident Evil (which is now a GameCube exclusive series) but it has numerous great Nintendo only games which are it's main strength.

You will never ever see games such as Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Starfox Adventures, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Star Wars: Rebel Assault - Rouge Leader, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin and Mario Party on anything but a Nintendo console. With those and future games such as Wario World, the Legend Of Zelda and a new Mario Kart you can't go far wrong. How many PS2 games are exclusive to that console and how many established characters does it have? Not many.

The controllers are the best, most comfortable things in the world. Your hands feel incomplete without one. There are 4 ports so there's no need for an overpriced add on for multiplayer games. Multiplayer gaming was invented for the GameCube. 4 people sat around screaming at each other during games, there's nothing better.

If you wanna be cool and fit in by all means have a PS2, it's even a DVD and CD player to boot. If you have any interest in gaming then there's no other option, get a GameCube. It also looks darn cool, a cute little purple cube or a big black slab?

You decide.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic gaming!!   December 3, 2002

Like many people, I thought hard on which next-gen console to get. I eventually plumped for the Gamecube, and I have not been disappointed. It may not have the fastest processor or the nifties looking Gfx, but in it's favour it does offer amazing gameplay.
From the word go I have been amazed at how fast this machine loads games. The longest I have ever had to wait is about 8 seconds.

There has been a lot said about the Gamecube including that it's a kiddies console and it's only got cutesy games. I can honestly say that some of these so called kiddies games do offer quite a good challenge to your games-playing skills.

But it's all about the games, and I'm not disappointed with the lineup. Odds are if its on the PS2 or Xbox it will be on the Gamecube at some point. That's not to say that it's a machine for cast-offs from other consoles. it's got Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Resident Evil, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness. Not all of these games are for kids.

I would recommend the Gamecube to anyone who likes videogames and who doesn't really need fancy gimmicks like a built in DVD player. It's all about gaming. I recommend the Gamecube wholeheartedly as a fantastic gaming machine.

One thing. If you do get a Gamecube get an official RGB cable at the same time as the cable that comes with the machine offers second rate picture quality.

Overall, 5 stars!

5 out of 5 stars Seriously Underated   November 19, 2003

I got the Gamecube the day after it was released, and is probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. The game selection, although smaller than the PS2s, is original and innovative. A lot of the games that you'll see available for the Gamecube will not be available on other consoles - F-Zero, Mario, Viewtiful Joe, Super Smash Bros., Metroid, Pokemon Colosseum...It's worth buying a Gamecube solely for playing these quality games. It's not that expensive and you definately get your money's worth.

It's an underrated console, like Nintendo's previous N64. The graphics are just as good as the PS2's and Xbox's, no matter what people say. Just look at the multiformat games, you will see no difference. The control pad is very comfortable. I own a PS2 as well, and the Gamecube's is a lot more comfortable. Because the discs are smaller, loading times are smaller as well, it runs as fast as the N64 did. There are almost no flaws with the gamecube, the only one I can think of is that the memory card can only hold saved games of about 10 games before it's full. But this can be easily fixed by getting a larger memory card. Get a Gamecube!
