Call of Duty returns, and to many people’s surprise, it’s going back to World War II. While original series creators Infinity Ward brought the series into the modern day, developer Treyarch are setting out to make the definitive historical first-person shooter.
The Soviet attack on Berlin features intense street battles
Take on the Japanese navy as you board a U.S. flying boat
World at War features the most realistic fire effects ever
The new ability to swim adds to both the story and multiplayer modes

The game is primarily set in the Pacific theatre and has a much more realistic, violent tone requiring less-linear game play than previous Call of Duty installments. You'll struggle to survive Japanese attacks without mastering new gaming skills, like swimming or how to use a flamethrower--a weapon that packs some punch in the fully destructable game world.

Also featured is a campaign on the Eastern front, where you take control of a soldier in the Soviet Red Army during the attack on Berlin in the closing stages of the war. The game also includes the series’ first co-op mode, while the competitive multiplayer mode aims to build upon the achievements of Call of Duty 4 and add to the game’s longevity.

Key Features
  • Dual campaigns: Fight in two very different World War II battles. Take on the Japanese Imperial army in the Pacific, and liberate Berlin as part of the Soviet Red Army.
  • Grim realities: Experience the most bloody and realistic combat ever seen in the series, as you witness enemy atrocities and wield horrific new weapons such as the flamethrower.
  • Job with benefits: Revamped competitive multiplayer mode features useable vehicles and an expanded perks system from Call of Duty 4.
  • Brothers in arms: For the first time, a Call of Duty game features a four-player co-operative mode that’s playable online or via a split screen option on the same console.
  • Modern graphics: The game uses an enhanced version of the Call of Duty 4 graphics engine, with wood that splinters realistically when shot and fires that spread organically.
About the Developer: Treyarch
One of publisher Activision’s biggest internal studios, Treyarch have worked on many of the company’s best known titles, from the Spider-Man movie tie-ins and spin-offs to several of the Call of Duty sequels and the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

5 out of 5 stars call of duty world at war full release   November 15, 2008

Having played cod4 non stop since it came out i couldnt wait for the latest installment. I dont understand people having problems installing the game unless that was the beta version. I have a mid range vista system core2 duo hd4850 and the game installed and plays like a dream. Solo player is a bit linear but then so was cod4 solo campaign. I`m part way through solo campaign and the action is totaly frantic and its graphically and sonically superb....well done Treyach

I have been a fan of all the call of duty games thus far.
I have to admit that when i first started playing this, i felt like i had seen it all before.
However, bear with it, after the first, allmost mundane level, things quckly spiral to what we all love about the other games.
I have a Dell XPS and the game's graphics are simply awesome, the Japanese early levels are something which quite simply, have not been seen before. The tank battles, explosions, falling debris, is amazing.
If you like me, loved the older games you WILL love this.

5 out of 5 stars COD5 as good as CODUO and COD4 SP only so far   November 8, 2008

I am half way through the Single player (dont ask) and believe me its as GOOD as COD, CODUO, COD2 and COD4 single player.
I look foward to the FULL online experiance as I am sure it will be as good as CODUO and 4.
This is one to get.
I understand from certain MODing sites the online experiance is very good so far and well though out for admins and servers.

5 out of 5 stars COD 5: A worthy addition.   November 20, 2008

I have COD 4 onm PC as well. Loved the singleplayer mode, but could never get on with the multiplayer. In the new one, I've fallen in love with the multiplayer action, and althouigh I am very impressed with the singlepalyer, it is SOOOO much harder than it was in COD 4.

I'm also surprised that people have had issues installing. Mine installed first time, and I think I've only had one crash, and that was on starting the game, not playing it.

Great work treyarch.

4 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME BUT BUGGY HERES HOW TO GET IT WORKING   November 16, 2008

im a big call of duty 4 fan and have it for the ps3.360 and pc so was looking forward to this for multiplayer and single.like many i had problems getting it to work on my pc having graphics distortion and crashing so heres what i did to get it working
first for the geforce graphics cards owners if your using the new 180.43 drivers delete them and use the 178.24.
secondly download the 1.1 patch for the game
thirdly disable antialiasing in the game menu as theres a bug when using aa in the game and im sure nvidia and the makers will sort out
fourthly in your vista sound settings for your soundcard and in the advanced menu set the default format if your souncard supports it to 24 bit,48000 hz studio quality.
after i done these the game works perfectly and i have to say i have a powerful gaming pc and with all the settings maxed out(no aa)this game looks stunning and alot better than cod4.the single player is really good and multiplayer is good but id say not as good as cod4 hope that helps some of you out there.
