A solid wii racer October 20, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Having read some of the reviews posted on amazon I was unsure whether to purchase this game, but being a petrolhead and options limited on the wii I decided to go for it. I must say I really enjoy this game and since I purchased it having played it non-stop. Firstly the graphics for the WII i think are really good at least on a par with need for speed pro street.
You can customise your cars and put flags, icons and alter the paint job being Welsh ive created 'dragon' racing and added the welsh logo to my ferraris !!!!! during the game there marshall's who are animated and the track and environment feel solid. The number of cars on the wii whilst racing seem limited to 8 as opposed to around 16 on the PS3 whilst this is a dissapointment you rarely notice as you try and beat the computer opposition who believe me do pose a challenge.
I would advise to start off with the tutorial and do a few practice laps prior to moving onto the other game modes which include quick race, series racing etc..... You have a whole host of assists and i now race with most assists on and in my view the most essential one is when you approach bends a braking line so you can enjoy the driving and know when to hit the brakes !!! The handling is fine and I cant see why other gamers have complained about this.
A great game and having played pc racers and games from the late 1970's this for the wii is a solid purchase !! oh yes before i forget superb sound effects and music !!!!

What I did not realise (as far as I can see to date nothing makes clear) is that it is only a 1 player game. Admittedly I did not check out the other formats that were actually released to see how many players they sustain. The one player format was disappointing as a household we were looking forward to being able to compete against each other (once it was actually released). The game is fun but for the single player reason I have reduced the overall rating.
near perfect racer October 4, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ive been playing racing games since pole position on the Atari 2600. and seen them all. this game is good but it could of been brilliant. shame about the control. using the wii wheel is aweful. non responsive. using the nunchuck seems the best way ive have found. you can actually drive it. the game doesnt push wii to its limits. which is shame such as Smash Brothers Brawl is amazing. So other than that if you want a racing fix its ok. having said that mario kart is still the best.
I thought the arcade mode might be good easy to play, and so on. still awkward.
Dull, poor graphics and lacks immersive wow factor September 21, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This game is the biggest dissapointment to have ever graced the wii. I love realistic racing games and ferrari F355 challenge is one of my all time favourites. Trouble is, 9 years on system 3 have decided to make their own worse version on Wii. The only good thing about this game is the sense of speed, eveything else is a tedium fest. Oh alright, I suppose Tiff Needell is pretty good as is the music!
First off, it looks utterly awful, far worse than F355 challenge on the dreamcast that came out in 2000! The trees look like direct descendants from those seen on F1 world Grand Prix on the Nintendo 64 and the cars are so low res that the ones seen on Sega Saturn Sega Rally now appear sharp fifteen years on!
The menu system is fiddly and the technical changes to the cars can never be made subtly...they make a massive difference! The races are also deeply boring and have little option to increase the fun. F355 challenge only offered a few laps on shortish circuits but every circuit on here is nicked either from the F1 calendar or is designed for faster or less endurance focused racing. Hence every race either sees you miles in front or behind.
Such a missed opportunity and it only gets 2 stars because believe it or not I have actually played worse racing games on the wii!
