Best game on PSP June 26, 2008 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is undoubtedly the best game on the PSP, especially so if you played and made the connection with the original FFVII. The story is brilliant, giving a lot of extra back story behind Zack Fair, Cloud's first real friend in Shinra and add's a lot more depth to the ever-enigmatic character of Sepiroth. The graphics, for the PSP, are incredible; easily the best looking game i've seen on the system. In all honesty, at some moments you look at the scenery around you and it is truly breathtaking - i've seen worse looking 360 games. The combat system, though, is very different from the original game, and takes a bit of getting used to - but only a little but. the learning curve is fairly gentle and the combat and customisation is so intuitive that you can be as involved or as removed as you like and still do quite well. This game is really a must have for any FFVII fan - great story, great graphics, intuitive combat and brilliant customisation; in other words, exactly what you'd expect from a Final Fantasy game.

Final fantasy VII was and a land mark game and any one who played it will never forget the strong emotional story. Crisis Core acts as prequel focusing on a Zack, a character that was relativly minor in the original game only appearing in brief flashbacks and occassional referances by other characters. Zack is a likable easy going guy in many ways the opposite to Cloud, but through the game grows up from a 'puppy' into a well rounded mature character. The story starts with the disapperance of Genesis, a solidier first class, and friend to Sephiroth and Angeal (Zacks mentor). The major story revolves around these three. The game itself is nothing short of impressive, with obiviously high production values. the graphics and FMVs are arguably the best seen on the psp to date. The combat is easy to pick up, use the shoulder buttons to cycle through the materia and x to select, square to dodge and triangle to block. The main game is however very linear and can be completed relatively quickly. Missions are used to add some variety, they can be accessed via save points, these are set around a few maps with a boss at the end. The early missions are really easy but become nightmarishly hard as more are completed. Missions are in effect the grinding system of the game where the best materia, items and accessories are found. Apart from the linear progression in the story mode there is nothing I can fault, it is a joy from start to finish (and has a New Game+ with all collected materia, items and accessories in tact). The DMV controls leveling, limits, bonuses seems out of place at first, but is easy to get to grips with after a while.
I like it...a lot August 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, as you can see in the other reviews, there are quite a few negative issues that some people have with this game. However, I love this game. I've nearly finished, and when I do, I'm going to play it again. To me, thats the mark of an excellent game.
This is not a turn based, strategic battle system affair like its parent game, but rather an action based game. I love the hacky-slashy combat - which to me seems perfect for an impulsive "leap before you look" type like Zack. The battle is complicated by the DMW (Digital Mind Wave), a slot wheel that spins to dole out bonuses. This is presumably meant to represent Zack's SOLDIER enhancements, as it releases limit breaks, levels him up, and deals out random smaller bonuses. Personally, I like it. The system evolves throughout the game with more characters added and even extra reels. By the time that mini cutscenes about the characters are added I was impressed that square had managed to keep the whole thing fresh.
The real star of the game is the characterization, with all the characters exactly as you would wish them to be. The story is superb - mad as ever, thanks square! - although some of the cutscenes that repeat 1997 history have lost a little of their sheer horrified amazement. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed FFVII purely for the chance to meet Zack Fair, who is probably the best character in the FF series for a long time. The story will tug your heartstrings all the way through :)
It's also great to see a game so well adapted to the PSP. It fits sony's system perfectly, with lots of bitesize missions to do on the bus/train. I personally prefer doing lots of different missions to level up Zack and get new items than the traditional FF method of leveling...finding the monster that gives the most exp and killing it over and over and over.... In this way, leveling is taken care of for you while you search out new materia and equipment.
All this without even mentioning all the mini-games, side missions and materia fusion system. The music and graphics are also outstanding. Quite simply, I think this is a stunning game.
Zack Rulez! July 27, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
This game is absolutely fantastic. It gives many hours of great gaming and fun. The story line is fantastic, the graphics are sound, the gameplay is superb and it has absolutely everything a great rpg and final fantasy game should have. This is a must buy for any rpg or FF fan. If you've seen Final Fantasy Advent children this is the prequal and happens 2 years before the film.
Beginning of a of a masterpiece game saga November 4, 2008 Now FFVII (Final Fantasy 7/VII) was in short a masterpiece.
I am not over rating it as a fanboy it had flaws but it was one hell of a ride. This game is how that ride begins...
Now this like the game it spun off from isnt without its niggles. The combat needs a little tweaking and as normal the engilsh cast of actors are cheesy. But with a great story giving more depth to great cast FFVII it makes more than what is needed for a great game.
As a bonus for FFVII geeks (like myself) there are meny cameos from classics of the PS1 game meny moments from said game that are remade. Such as the (Not a spoller) the famous Nibelheim is remade (Which looks fantastic) with the classic flames moment. Plus most of the music has been fine tuned to be even better than the game it came from (well most of it).
All in all brilliant just brilliant.
