Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Flight Simulator X Deluxe, EN

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Microsoft's original civilian flight sim is still clocking up the air miles with the most significant sequel for years and a genuine attempt to make it more accessible for non-propellerheads.

The lowdown:
While almost all other flight simulators have fallen from grace on the PC, Microsoft have never given up on the genre with a game that's as ruthlessly realistic as it is completely free of any kind of violence. Every major, and minor, airport in the world is simulated and every major city has its share of recognisable landmarks, allowing you to fly anywhere in the world. There's a huge range of different aircraft to fly too: from jumbo jets and seaplanes to helicopters and everything in between. The only problem is that the game needs a seriously powerful PC to run at full whack, but even on lower detail levels this is still a stunning achievement.

Most exciting moment:
Despite the realism, the game isn't all dry simulation. There are a lot of fun missions to try out, including acting as a Hollywood stuntman, going on search and rescue flights, fighting fires and even flying over the infamous Area 51.

Since you ask:
The deluxe version of the game includes more cities, airports and aircraft as a well as an extra series of twenty-odd missions. There are also some additional multiplayer options, including the chance to share aircraft and have a go in the control tower.

The bottom line:
The most realistic commercial flight sim ever. Again.-HARRISON DENT

5 out of 5 stars Beware-Licence for only 1 PC system. Read the small print!   December 25, 2006

I have FSX Deluxe and am delighted with the FS detail and playability. What many people do not know or realise is that you can only install the game on one PC system!!! I have just purchased a Laptop and have been unable to activate the second installation to my Laptop online due to MS putting a 1 system installation restriction on the software package! I argued the point with MS helpdesk and got nowhere. Subsequent invetsigation revealed this little gem of info on the Installation readme file which is useless guidance because you will have to open the packaging before knowing!! Come on MS, play the game and clearly state on the packaging that you can only install it on one system.
Most frustrating! Back to FS2004 for the laptop!

5 out of 5 stars you don't need a top spec PC   August 19, 2007

I decided that I'd have a go and see what flight simulator is like (being bored of shooters etc.) But what do you buy? I thought that Microsoft would make sense as you can add to it more or less whatever you like. However, I've red many reviews that unless you have a top spec machine, you would be disappointed. I was playing with the idea buying the 2004 instead of FSX. When you look at websites, magazines etc., time moves on and everything out there is about the FSX. So, I decided to go for FSX. And I was not disappointed! I have P4 3.4 GHz, 1GB of RAM, ATI X800XT card. No duo core, no top notch graphics card and average RAM. Ok, the graphics options are not all turned right up, but they are pretty high and the game looks good. Actually very good! It takes some time to install it, it takes ages to load the game, it takes some time to load the flight, but after that, it's fine.
I'm not writing this review to tell you whether the game is good or not. You can read about that on websites that review flight sims. I'm here to tell you that if you have an average PC like me, you don't need to worry, the game will work fine. Perhaps all the hype that the game needs the latest hardware is before service pack 1 was out. I can't comment on that. I bought the game and installed the service pack before playing it.
One matter to consider, I bought the Saitek X52 Pro Joystick. They are releasing a really nice yoke in a month or two. If you are going to fly commercial aircraft from Cessna to Boeing, I would wait for the yoke as most of the aircraft use one.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.   October 11, 2007

The best just got better.
I thought FS2004 was good but FSX is trully
a ground breaking game.

I've heard a lot of people slating FSX and that
its needs a top spec computer to run it on
but thats not true.

I've got a four year old computer and even with some of the
settings turned down this game is amazing! Sure you're not gonna get the most out of the game but it's still a lot of fun whatever system you've running.

Tha graphics are superb, Variety of aircraft is varied and the different
missions available make this game a must have for any flight sim fan.
My current favourite is the DG808 glider. Getting a toe up to 6000 feet
and using thermals to gain altitude is an amazing experience. Also Trying
to complete the Red Bull air race course is really difficult but rewarding.

In addition to all this clouds, winds, snow and rain are perfectly recreated to make that challenge of flight all the more interesting.

So in short this game can be adjusted to suit your computer
so don't listen to those reviews who say you need a top Spec PC.
I'm glad I bought it anyway and think its fantastic and hope
to upgrade my system soon to fully realise the full potential
of what is the best Flight Sim out there.

5 out of 5 stars Best Flight Simulator yet!   September 5, 2007

An enjoyable game and a big improvement over previous Microsoft Flight Simulator versions. The graphics are excellent with cars, boats and airport vehicles adding a lot more detail to the game. The new in-flight views such as wing view and new aircraft such as the Airbus A321 are good additions as well. I especially enjoy the new missions in the game which contain much more challenges and excitement over the missions in previous versions. The game has also been made easier for new-comers with new tutorials and a Learning Centre enhanced from Flight Simulator 2004.

The issue people are most likely to have with the game is performance. The 2 2.40 GHz processor with 2GB of RAM on my Windows Vista run computer can only just run Flight Simulator at the 'High' settings. I would be cautious with buying the game for much less powerful systems as a lot of features in the game are lost at lower settings - though the game is still playable on many computers with a processor over 1 GHz and a reasonable graphics card if you are willing to turn down the settings. I found that Service Pack 1 further improved performance and there are apparently further updates and a expansion pack on the way.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent... after some wait!   October 13, 2006

I got this game delivered 36 hours after ordering it. Well done Amazon for that!
Then the troubles started, when I put the game in the drive [FREEZE], so after a couple of restarts and scratching of the head, I asked my flat mate if it would work on his Dell Desktop. It did... Even more scratching of the head, as I have a very high end gaming dell laptop!

So, I phoned Microsoft UK Games technical support and they told me to msconfig, and select only essential things (Microsoft only basically) and try again... Wahey! It worked! So if you can't get it to work, phone them... They have all the answers :-)

So, now I am peeled away from my screen and the game is great. Smooth, nice graphics. The welcome addition of the A321 and the other aircraft makes this game 5*s! Well done MS!
