Easier and better then a PC Flight Simulator in my opinion... March 24, 2007 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
Brought myself a PS3 the morning it came out. Along with Motorstorm, had already purchased Blazing Angels (ebay) and then decided to buy Virtua Tennis 3 later that day...
Have to say from starting to play Blazing Angels, the first game i tried on PS3, i was amazed at everything... The graphics are second to none, sound quality excellent, effects mind blowing, list goes on... Id say if your into second world war games then please get this...
My only grumble would be that the game revolves around the americans a little too much, and if the game developers had given the gamer a choice of what nationality to be in the game, it would have been that little bit better. Flying during the Battle of Britain and over Dunkirk in the fairly early days of he war as a Yank did get me slightly anoyed i must admit (shadows of the americans rewriting history once again ala, U571, Pearl Harbour and We Few) but as i said, if you can get past this then you have an excellent, better then PC quality flight/fighter sim...
I would say a very good game to test the water as it were with the PS3!!!

Great Fun !! April 3, 2007 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is a great game, I bought it having not heard of it before, crossed my fingers and took the plunge. One player mode doesn't take long to get used to, and theres plenty enough to get stuck in to. Some levels are very tricky and take some time to suss out, but that just makes it worth the money spent. I had a quick go online and apart from getting my backside beaten (metaphorically speaking) it was hectic, fun and thrilling, just what a game should be. Highly recommended.
Blazing Angels Squadrons of WW II - Between haven and hell December 5, 2006 24 out of 28 found this review helpful
I am going to be quick about this game. I looked forward on playing a WWII game, but there was none good enough for me that was available in the market. I was not looking for real plane simulations, but more to some kind of a get in, relax, get out. This is what the game is all about. To make you feel better when you close the console.
The other Blazing Angels games had their share of the problems, especially the rushed PC version. Some of those are still here, but most of them are gone.
The game now features a much requested cockpit view, with different cockpits for each available plane. You can look around the cockpit with your left stick, and even have an enemy camera! The pilot turns his head towards the currently selected target as long as you keep the enemy camera button pressed.
All the maps and models in the game have been rebuilt from scratch, with a massive amount of details and realism. Watch the cockpits diial glow when the sun strikes them at the right angles. Turn the head and see the wings with the propellers turning (if you have a twoengine craft). Alsosome new planes have made its way intro BA; some of the old ones have disappeared; all of them with incredible detail and artwork. I must say this is one of the best looking game I've seen from thispoint of view. To see this just taxi the runway on the tutorial mission while in cockpit looking to your left and right. You'll know what I mean. Go low and skim the treetops; Take the streets. You will be amazed. :) (just don't be scared of the people running around :)) )
Another thing implemented to please the community was the addition of different control maps for both the newly added cockpit viewand the old thirdperson view. You can now cicle between arcadish and simulation feel of the controls. Not to mention dedicated control maps which allows you to use the SIXAXIS feature of the PS3 controller. The simulation mode means (for example) left thumbstick is roll, while arcadish mode is the classic BA control. The SIXAXIS works great both in arcade and simulation, in third person mode. You can be nuts and try SIXAXIS-simulation in the cockpit view (the simulation mode.. i would not recommend the arcadish mode)... >:)
Off to the main campaign. Some of the missions have been improved and new ones added; the in-game cinematics system received a small buff; but don't expect to see someone talking ar enything else. However the story has been greatly improved. Totally different briefing videos, radio chatter at the end of themissions; all this make the game's story much more present throughout the entire campaign mode, thed player getting a loit more emotionally involved than in the 360 version. Ah.. i forgot.. you can select the plane you want to start the mission with, if you unlocked some of the available planes.
The solo modes have not been changed as far as i could tell, they remain the same as in the 360 version.
Multiplayer mode still remains one of the strong points of this game. A new game mode has been added, "Squad Assault" where one team defends an objective, and the other teams tries to destroy it. It has two rounds or something like that, didn't quite catch it, but it's great fun to play. The Squad kamikaze mode, which suffered from balancing issues was fixed, as far as i could tell. The action is intense and extremely addictive. It's like a blitz mode. The other game modes are still there, some maps being updated (coop historical missions or whatever for example), others being tweaked. It's an overall great multiplayer experience, with some new rewards (an "multiplayer veteran" skin being unlocked for all planes at a number of kills or so) and leaderboards. However... the game has no built-in audio or text chat support, so you'll either have to use a third party software, or use the ingame commands system for coop and squad mode.
In overall it is a big improvement over the 360 version. If you happen to own the 360 version, you should consider buying into this one as well, because it's just so much better.
PS: You should really try the cockpit view in the B17 Flying fortress mission... That's one of the most pleasant feeling the game leaves to you.
Ideal game for first time Flyers April 19, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a really fun game to have. It's the first and only flight game I have though I have played a WW1 'red baron' type game which is very similar in a scaled down way. I bought this having finished Marvel Ultimate Alliance and was at a loose end, not being full taken in by Resistance. (I'm waiting for Killzone 2) The detail has already been mentioned. As have many of the other positive features of the game Plus it's important to note that the Controls are easier to master than you'd imagine if you are not used to flight games. The one downside for me is the lack of banter between the other non playable characters (NPC). You'd imagine the developers would fill out the capacity of the disc with some entertaining dialogue but no. So although you do get some chat it's doesn't contribute to the atmosphere and 'reality' of the game. But for the sheer fun of doing your bit for the country in such stunning surroundings and the engaging challenges of battle - you don;t need to be a flight game fan to feel you've got your money's worth.
