Having not played a Resident Evil since the very first one (didn't enjoy it), and spending the last ten years using a mouse and keyboard combination for all sorts of games, I had mixed feelings about this game from the start. A friend of mine had shown me the Gamecube version to which I was non-plussed.
Quite frankly after 15mins of playing it, I realised I was too scared to move around the village after dying several times. I was actually rooted to the spot in fear, unable to go on unless one of the shambling spaniards saw me. From that moment I was hooked.
What follows is a masterpiece of game design, minutes where nothing much happens followed by seconds of intense waving the remote around in panic make this a tense and film like experience.
In addition the 'Dungeon Lair'-esque requirements to waggle the remote or press A+B simultaneously could have felt bolted on, but, the knife fight (i won't spoilt it for you) showed just how brilliantly this could be done. I found myself poised ready as if in a real knife fight, barely listening to the characters talking, but just watching for the next lightnening fast attack I would have to defend against.
The controls are spot on, and for those who can't use a joypad to play an FPS (like me) the wii mote targetting is pitch perfect. The nunchuk being used to control the characters movements.
Finally coupled with some fairly tough bosses, and unlockable modes (2 additional story modes and the pick and play mercenaries mode) make this well worth the money.
Just a shame that the best game on the Wii is a two year old gamecube game.
Thoroughly recommended by me.

Resident Evil 4 is without a doubt one of the best action games ever. Released already on the Gamecube, PS2 and PC, RE4 is now on the Wii with new, more interactive controls.
The setting of RE4 is completely new from previous Resident Evil games - Leon Kennedy has been sent to Europe to rescue the president's kidnapped daughter, taking the setting away from Racoon City and the game replaces zombies with crazy villagers, who will attack you (sometimes at quite a speed) with all sorts of weapons. The action is now over-the-shoulder as opposed the old style fixed camera view. It is all at a much faster pace too now, with a more arcade-like feel to it, which does work for the better. Also on the Wii version are the Ada missions which were only previously on the PS2 version, adding a little more action once you have finished the main game.
This edition is a great package, taking full advantage of the Wii's innovative control methods and adding it to a game which can be played through over and over again. I have already finished this on the Gamecube a few years back but couldn't resist getting this again at a budget price as it is a game I knew I would enjoy as much now as I did the first time I played it. A recommended buy for anybody.

Fellow Amazon users all i can say is that this is the definitive version of a modern classic and a must play, even if you've already experienced the brilliance of Resident Evil 4 on another platforms, this still feels and plays the best of them all. if you guys are thinking well i already own res evil4 so i shant be bothering with this then think again!! it doesnt matter as the best games are worth playing through all over again in my opinion not only does RE4 remain a heart thrilling ride, but the wii controller and nunchuck breath a whole new life into the game and gives us res evil fans a special treat even 2 years on. to the people who for some strange reason have not played resident evil4, you guys seriously have some catching upto do and you are missing out on what is one of the best if not the best series ever released on any format im sure other res evil fans will agree with me. the game itself has fantastic atmospheric music, its creepy as hell and will make you jump, the wii version is like the ps2 version in the sense it also includes side story called seperate ways where u take control of spy wong and explore some of the same story line but from her perspecitve, sadly the wii version doesnt include any new exclusive content though, but to me this doesnt matter as what makes the wii version so special is the little differnces such as the controls and trust me guys if you are worried about the controls dont be as they are an absolute pleasure they have been implemented to perfection trust me, movement and turning are controlled by the nunchucks analog stick, and u enter aim mode by pressing the remotes (B Button i would say the most noticeable imporvment is aiming your weapon, laser sight has been replaced with a retickle that u fully control with the remote, which gives you more accuracy over where your shots land and it feels oh so satisfying being able to cap these zombies right where it hurts the most lol
all in all guys re4 on the wii doesnt bring anything new in terms of visuals like the ps2 version, but it still looks fantastic. fantstic designed characters, enviroments that look like they have been created with time and not rushed. even with minor improvments these minor improvments add a lot more to the games feel its all about the wii controls that make this game so special the sound coming from the remote is also fantastic, this game is quite simply outstanding and i highly recommend this to resident evils fans and wii fans alike.. this is what gaming should feel like!!

I thought this was the best game i'd played on my gamecube. I'd set it up on my 32" TV and happily played away on it being pleased with the whole experience from the visuals to the level of gameplay it offered. I'll admit it took me a while to complete as i'm not a 'play until i've finished' gamer. I like to take my time with games, giving way to maybe a couple of hours of play to look forward to each evening. I finished the game and felt totally satisfied with my results and that was that.
Since then I've invested in a 42" HD plasma TV, Dolby Digital 5.1 amp and of course a Wii console correctly set up to it all. If I thought the experience on Gamecube was satisfying then how wrong could i be? I purchased Resident Evil 4 thinking it would be (maybe) a wasted 25.
So far this is the best gaming experience i've had to date. The graphics are stunning and as for the sound... try playing it in the dark and hearing distant locals and chainsaw bearing maniacs coming closer and closer toward you. This game comes fully recommended without any doubts as to whether it's wasted money if you already own the Gamecube version. Buy it. You won't be disappointed! Oh and i've played the game through in less than 2 days! Here's to many more Wii games that can deliver on the level this one has.

OK, you've bought the kids and the family the Wii and Wii fit to play their Mario games on and to help get the wife get back in trim after having the kids, so what can you get for yourself ? Me ? I love horror and 3D shoot'em ups - but then at this stage there really is not a lot on the Wii for my kind of gaming. Outcome - revert back to those days of sitting in the back bedroom with my first Play-Station playing Resident Evil ! Only this time it's a brand new console and a new endeavour of trying to get used to the unique Wii controls !!
I have to say that at first I did struggle with the Wii controls for this game. Though moving around really is not a problem and the aiming did take a bit of getting used to, the bit I struggled with was looking up and down, which pretty much meant that you had to aim you fire-arm. A peering around the corner function would also have helped a treat. However, for all you Wii and Resident Evil fans that have found this easy, please note I only get a few hours to play games a week and am certainly no ambidextrous pro !! I admit - even on EASY - to getting my head cut off a few times by chain-saw wielding villains, getting squashed by a rolling rock and crushed by a giant stone midget until I got the idea of what to do !!
In this game Leon makes a welcome return, searching for the president's daughter Ashley, kidnapped and held hostage by hordes virus infected villagers and monks. It is the usual problem solving, shoot'em up, blood-thirsty romp that fans of previous Resident Evil games have come to enjoy, with previous characters making appearances as the game goes along.
This game does not have zombies in it from the outset, but farmers with pitch folks and dynamite !! And the total absence of the `Umbrella Corp' involvement made the start a little seem less of a Resident Evil game than others on other consoles. Indeed I think Umbrella does not get a mention until Chapter 5, nearing the end of the game ! The larger - more harder to kill - monsters and trucks are not really so tough, a quick fired missile from the rocket launcher easily despatches something that looks fearsome to start with. Even the `Big Bosses' like Krausner, Saddler and the annoying midget are fairly easy to put in their place when you understand exactly how to kill them. The surroundings in my own opinion, whilst detailed, seemed to come straight out of the imagination of someone that was brought up in the deep south of USA, trying to imagine what Gothic Europe should look like.
The introduction of the mysterious Merchant in Res 4 is a great addition to the game, allowing you to trade in your cash for hardware. You can also sell anything you don't want, unused ammo, jewellery, tankards, watches, etc, and tune up you weaponry for a better spec killing machine ! Please note that certain weapons are only available after finishing the game - and 1 million for a never ending ammo rocket launcher !! Whew, that's steep !
Although the people at Capcom have now completely done away with annoyingly having to collect type-writer ribbons to save the game, you can still only save the game in certain specifically placed typewriters. This means you having to go back to you last saved typewriter position. However, this new game allows you to continue after you have died from the entry to the new location should you die - though purists that want to finish the game without dying may get a bit frustrated. I cannot see why you cannot save the game
as you go ? There are thousands of games out there that you save as you journey. One for Res 5 folks.
Bad things, not many other than Ashley for me. Where this girl was educated would probably make a game in itself. You pretty much have to potty train this girl ! She does not run away from anything that is going to kill her or drag her away to depths unknown. Whilst game sellers advertise smart A.I. for villains, they clearly fail to give the same to your charges !! It was so frustrating shooting villains as she tried to unlock doors, etc. I think at one point when she stands by a castle wall and lets steel bars surround and imprison her pretty much sums her up ! Defending her I found actually harder than putting the bosses down !
There are the standard unlockables that seem to be cropping up in all games these days, though you have to finish the game to unlock them - playing as Ada, new firearms, etc. I personally find this annoying and would much prefer to be able to unlock them on my own demand if required. I wonder how long it will be before some clever person takes a game company to the European Court of Human Rights saying that the companies are deliberately selling you something that you cannot access !
Lastly, this game is rating 15+, but I felt it should be 18+. Whilst I admit these days kids grow up faster, there are still some pretty immature young 15 year old gamers out there. Cutting heads off with chainsaws, collecting eye-balls and heads exploding may certainly give a few kids nightmares and their parents food for thought !!
Still, excellent game 5 out of 5.
