5 out of 5 stars Nerve shredding, limb severing fun!   October 27, 2008
12 out of 17 found this review helpful

Securom aside, this is a great game.

The camera angle and controls can take a little getting used to but by the end of Chapter 1 I was doing fine.

The game seems quite lengthy. I have put in a good many hours of gameplay and just starting Chapter 5 out of 12.

The dismemberment system is really fun. The Plasma Cutter I find is most fun for those wanting to carefully dissect their enemies to conserve ammo, allowing you to switch between horizontal and vertical cuts depending on the limb your trying to cut off.

From the first two mintues of gameplay you are in the action and the scares have started. The sound and ambience in the game is truly nerve shredding. I recommend you use surround sound or a headset to make the most of this.

The storyline isn't bad either for a sci-fi horror. I found moving around the different ship areas to complete the objectives quite involving, especially when every step you take could see Necromorphs jumping you from pretty much anywhere.

The pop up holographic video transmissions are also an interesting touch.

I would most definately recommend this game if you are not overly concerned regarding the Securom business.

5 out of 5 stars Full bodied atmosphere   November 2, 2008

So far I have played it for a day and have found it to be very atmospheric. The sound creates a very real and eerie surrounding with some very nice graphics and a nice approach to hud layout and positioning of the camera.

There is a lot of clattering of bars and items so it really keeps you on your toes, and when you do meat a horror, you will hope to god that you can reload if there are more than one of them. If you don't want to waste ammo you can also curb stomp them when they are down. squish squish - nice.

The interaction, map and communications are of the best quality I have seen for a good while, it really does get you involved in the story.

I can see this game giving me plenty of adrenalin rushed. To all horror fans don't miss out.

- Update 08/11/2008

Well I have played it up to level 7 and am 5+ hours into it. It still keeps me guessing and involved in the story. Wow - a great game, have now ordered the dvd animation that is supposed to give a good basis for the game.
I have also met at least another 5 new horrors.

5 out of 5 stars This is a Dead Space review, not a DRM review.   November 6, 2008

I installed the Dead Space game, no problems.
My setup includes 2 x 8800GTX graphic boards in SLI mode and the games graphics are really good at 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution, I played it on the Vista operating system.
During over 3 hours of continuous playing the only problem I had with my system was the frights when mutated human things leaped out at me or upon me, definitely a case of wearing your brown trousers when playing this game as it is really atmospheric and the sound effects had me twitching and looking over my shoulder.
My computer system however had no problems at all with the game and it played as smooth as silk, which was nice.
If you like Science Fiction and shooting some really scary things then this game is for you! (I think the games designer must have seen the film "The Thing" by John Carpenter).
This game is unique in its approach and yes the keyboard layout controls take a bit of time getting used to but I managed to terminate quite a few things with extreme prejudice after they had almost frightened the life out of me and the good old foot stomp was not always needed but it channeled the adrenaline, released some stress and slowed the heart down to a more manageable rate after a near change of underwear.
I am really enjoying playing this game but its now 00:40 hours and I must go and get some sleep after all the shooting and stomping.
I need to be alert for my next mission, my mates are relying on me and I just can't let them down.
I just hope I don't have any nightmares.

Pay the money, Play the game and say Thank You to all the people who have worked so long and hard to bring you such good game entertainment.

5 out of 5 stars gasp! an actual gameplay review!   October 26, 2008
6 out of 13 found this review helpful

seeing as there are no gameplay reviews for this yet thought i'd add one
firstly the storyline is the basic "no ones picking up the phone so lets go investigate" leading to all hell breaking lose when it seems the whole crew has been infected with an organism that can alter dead organic tissue, leaveing you to cut a path through several(fantasticly designed) zombies to try and escape. the game is in 3rd person with an over the shoulder perspective. a good design choice for various action sequences.
the combat is one of the most ingenutive things i've seen in recent games. instead of a basic "shoot it till it stops moveing" approach you should idealy aim to "stragicaly decapetate", aiming for limbs to either disarm(no pun intended) or shoot the legs to slow them down. this keeps the combat fun throughout the game. it makes a real good horror game as well. enemys will come out of vents that surrond the ship, lurk behind doors and even play dead. you'll defenately need a new pair of pants playing this. i played through with graphics on medium and thought it was still some of the best i've seen. my only complaint would probely be its a bit short but lets face it, if that is your only complaint then it did a damn good job entertaing you.

5 out of 5 stars DRM issues aside Great Game   October 26, 2008

I bought this game with Far Cry 2 on a multi-deal. I had no problems activating the product. And everything was easy to set-up.

The game itself is a complete blast, really addictive game play. Reminds me of Doom 3 but not as scary. The graphics are also upto modern standards and will not fail to dissapoint. A great game!
