A fiver's worth of fun June 25, 2008 21 out of 27 found this review helpful
I don't care that this will be part of the main game to come - I'd hate to be so mean that I wouldn't buy this now because it's so much fun. The building system is very easy and right from the earliest components you add, the creature reacts to the building process (start with the mouth - that way you get 'comments' as you go along). Your creature shows its pleasure at the way you build it and this makes the urge to be creative really strong. There are seemingly infinite adjustments to each part you add and an enormous colour palette to choose from when you come to the painting stage. What really got me hooked, though, is the testing stage, when you find out how your creature moves, reacts...and dances. You can also blow a whistle to attract its attention to make it look at you. Best of all is the ability to hatch out up to three babies, who then attempt to recreate the movements of the adult, eventually, after mistaken efforts, moving in synch. All this can be recorded as still pictures or videos if you are so minded. A wonderful bargain - if you have nostalgic memories of plasticine (it's over fifty years since I last used it) you'll love it. It isn't a game, but it's not meant to be. It's a way of having fun. It can be used by fairly young children, who won't be buying the actual game anyway, so it's perfectly acceptable as a stand-alone product. I'm very pleased that EA has released this separately; I shall probably buy the game when it comes out, but I'll get plenty of use from this until then and pass it on to a young relative to have fun with.
I can't wait. June 23, 2008 6 out of 14 found this review helpful
The creature creator is great, its much better than the free downloadable version as ther eare more parts available to create with and also i have not encountered any problems with this version ( i did with the free version, it froze upon saving, and failed to save) I can't wait for the full version of the game to come out in september :)
Basicly this is free software August 12, 2008 1 out of 10 found this review helpful
I suggest everyone who thinks that if they buy this they are buying a demo I urge you all to read the product information for the full spore game preorder with amazon. heres the bit thats interesting: "Buy Spore Creature Creator with us at Amazon.co.uk and get 5 off Spore." Now notice that creature creator costs 4.99 Yep thats right, if you decide to buy the full game your amazon will basicly pay you a penny and give you a free disk. Best deal this year.
Well, duh it's a demo _ September 5, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
It's exactly the same as The Sims 2 Body Shop. This is why clever people like me only downloaded the trial version with 25% of the creator features included. It's exactly the same, but with less stuff. It gives you a feel for what the game will be like, and still manages to be relatively amusing and creatively stimulating. The reason I've given it a low fun score is because, let's be honest, all you're doing is fiddling with a spine and attaching a few limbs. Hardly fun. However! It does challenge you from a design point of view. I've spent lots of time creating interesting-looking insectoids, humanoids...random alien thingies I couldn't name even if I tried. I anticipate that the actual Spore game - which should be arriving in a matter of hours - will be highly entertaining and will keep me occupied for a long period. It's your own silly fault for buying the creature creator...what did you expect from it? You can't very well complain about something you did. After all...the aim of a business is to turn a profit. Is EA not a business? Cut them some slack: if they've got imbecilic customers it's hardly their fault.
If you have two PCs and want to make creatures on both... January 4, 2009 If you have two PCs and want to make creatures on both you'll need this. It's a real hassle to install Spore twice, so get spore on one PC, this on the other. Use a USB flash drive to port 'em from one to the other.
