Awesome March 6, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this game on a very dubious opinion, my friend stated that if this was released earlier last year - and not over Christmas it would of got 8.5 - 9.0 out of 10. I can see what he means - its a cross between Call of Duty and Silent Hill. I highly recommend it! Just switch it on, turn the sound up and lights off, and take your time with it. Its not Halo or Resistance, its not a run a gun(well, ok it can be sometimes.. running away that is! ;-))

Bit of an anti-climax December 8, 2007 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I thoroughly enjoyed playing every part of this game. The story works well and the squad control method is great fun once you get the hang of it (which doesnt take long).
The only problem is the end. If you are the kind of player that loves to put in all the effort then sit back to a great finale ending... i wouldnt bother. Gladly, there is talk of a sequal that could continue the story where it left off. Until then... the story as it stands seems pretty much pointless.
Play the game - Not the demo January 28, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
A tough game with the ability to change to other players to use their various talents. Plenty of different weapons and powers, certainly loads of blood and gore. One thing I didn't like through it is the sequences where you have to escape/kill by pressing the buttons fast and in sequence. Did nothing for me. In short, far far better than the demo - very dark, gloomy and atmospheric.
People who only play Demos shouldn't leave reviews on games, IMO.
Just for those who are considering pre-ordering October 8, 2007 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is just a short review to help those who are considering pre-ordering the game, and is based upon the demo I downloaded from Sony Europe PS server.
First impressions (ie. from the video tutorial) were a convoluted, confusing FPS trying to be too clever for its own good: one controls a team of elite soldiers with special powers (eg. telekinesis, pyrokinesis, healing) using a spirit of their captain who can possess any team member at will...rrrrrriiiiight - LOL! Their mission is to kick evil monster butt and prevent the impending apocalypse. So, no points for original story then, but this is a frantic, horror-fest FPS so who really cares?
Anyway, after playing a few minutes of the demo, it quickly became clear that my harsh assumption was unfair: the game works very well, and the demo already looks incredibly smooth and polished. It does take some time to get used to your team's special abilities, but they are pretty autonomous and effective (very refreshing in my experience), so one can largely stick with the same character if preferred. If one requires manual intervention, a quick flick of the D-pad will sort your team out.
My only real problem with this game was that the enemies are incredibly quick and the characters in the demo don't really have enough speed or 'stopping power' to always prevent them from hitting you (even the huge guy's sodding chain-gun!). This coupled with the fact that the monsters can hit you with swords (etc) from an alarming/illogically far distance made it quite frustrating. However, even after taking a beating, I didn't die so I guess the game's designers intend one to have plenty of close encounters, lending an almost 'House of the Dead' quality to the action.
If I was an FPS nut, and was bored of playing FEAR, i'd buy this in a heartbeat. However i'm not, and even the innovations here don't excite me enough to give it any more time; especially will all the other excellent titles cropping up on the PS3 en route to Xmas.
