Uncharted is quite simply a fantastic game. It doesn't revolutionize the genre or try anything new, but its a very enjoyable jaunt through a challenging and frenetic experience. The characters are somewhat cliched, but they fit in well with the theme and they talk and act so perfectly, it feels like a Hollywood blockbuster. The story doesn't attempt to break new ground, it keeps to a familiar cult adventure theme that plays out in about 9/10 hours. It sounds short, but in Uncharted, you're constantly pressing forward - the action rarely relents and its unlikely you'll get stuck in the puzzle sections (the answers are usually revealed if you take too long). The only weak spot occurs towards the end of the game - a plot twist sheds the believability (akin to: Indiana Jones 4). On the bright side, this section does completely change the game - you're forced to drop all the tactics you've learnt up to now, and try something new. The gameplay jumps from shooting to puzzle-solving through the course of the game. Shooting is operated easily by using cover, then popping up and firing. Its a simple but effective method, and you'll have to perfect it to survive in many of the hectic firefights you'll get into. Uncharted does occasionally cheat by simply repeating waves of enemies once you've taken down the first batch. It can get irritating and feel repetitive, but Uncharted tries to keep it fresh with varying enemy types and a selection of weapons (of which you can hold 2 simultaneously) The Puzzle sections often involve simply finding switches or operating levers. You'll also have to jump across ledges and swing on vines - its classic adventure genre material, and its also very easy. Even if you don't know where the next ledge is, a random jump will snap you to it. This is reinforced by Uncharted's regular checkpoints which prevent annoying backtracking. Uncharted is a great game - especially for 15. Its non-stop action with compelling characters and enjoyable gameplay and a must-buy for a PS3 owners. For those unsure about buying it, I believe there is a demo on the PSN store.
Exciting, Amazing, Epic Must Have PS3 Game! August 10, 2008 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Think Gears of War, Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider and you have the main kind of gameplay of Uncharted Drake's Fortune. However it takes all those great aspects of play and combines them with high quality production values, a great story, amazing attention to detail, beautiful/stunning graphics and levels And a complete style of it's own to create one brilliant adventure that you must experience if you own a PS3.
Follow Drake on his adventure along with his friends Elena and Sully to find the lost treasure of El Dorado which leads to the discovery of a forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. After they become stranded, they must fight their way to survival as they uncover the dark secrets hidden on the island.
Most of the gameplay in Uncharted will have you shooting enemies which includes a really great aiming system and the option to take cover behind structures to regain health. There's also a decent amount of platforming including climbing, jumping, swimming, swinging from branches and puzzle solving. Also included is a thrilling jeep chase and the ability to ride on jet skis. Everything you need to take you on a great survival adventure.
The graphics in Uncharted are absolutely amazing. Attention to detail is very present and plants and trees will move as Nathan passes by them, leaves and trees will blow in the wind, making the world feel real and full of life. Water in the game looks fantastic and Nathan himself has around 3000 animations making him one of the most fluidly moving characters in a video game ever. His clothes will get wet in water, they wrinkle as he moves, his muscles bulge under them when he raises his arms and sweat pours from his forehead. All this makes for a fantastic looking game that will blow you away.
The game uses motion capture like we saw in Heavenly Sword using real actors. The characters come to life and are believable and all great people that you will come to love. Sully is such a funny guy and will even follow you around, telling you stories as you are walking around as Nathan. Elana is a cool strong female character but she's also a character you can relate to, much like most of the characters in the game. They aren't stereo typical game characters who you can't relate to but very real, making you feel as you're watching actors in a movie.
In terms of story you will have to buy the game and see for yourself but be prepared for one of the most epic adventures and best stories you will see in a video game with fantastic twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you ever wanted to play a game that was like a Hollywood blockbuster then treat yourself to Uncharted and you'll not be dissapointed. 10/10

I am impressed at not only the graphics but also the gameplay.
This game keeps you going and interested with its mixture of action and climbing and dialogue.
I hope there is a sequel and its as good as this one.
An epic that breaks the deadlock from the constant War and Sci-fi Ps3 shooter Games December 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although the plot is awful, Uncharted makes up for it with fantastic shooter Gameplay with a veriety of weapons and enemies that test you in different ways. The gameplay is different from a normal shooter as it has many puzzles and clever enemies and the different scenery and time makes this game a good break from Call of Duty and Medal of Honour.
A must have game! December 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is incredible, so immersive and enjoyable. It's so cheap, you can't go without it. If you have a PS3, you need to get this game. It's truly amazing.
