Product Description Resistance 2 transports players across the Atlantic to a besieged 1950s America where it builds on Fall of Man's legacy. There will be bigger battles, spectacular landscapes and an even more gripping narrative told from Hale's perspective - alongside an u
Amazon.co.uk Review The United States is being invaded by the evil Chimera hordes, and only you can stop them. Set in an alternate universe in which World War II was cut short by an alien invasion, this exclusive PLAYSTATION 3 first-person shooter sees the battle moving in the 1950s from the recently liberated UK to a human resistance base in Iceland and finally onto America. You play as Nathan Hale, a U.S. soldier immune to the Chimera’s mutagenic virus | Chimera spaceships appear over the America's coasts | Resistance is set in an alternative 1953, where World War II never happened | Fans originally accused the monster in the movie Cloverfield of being inspired by the Chimera | Although the single-player story mode features much more variety than the original, with many new weapons and Godzilla-sized enemy bosses, the game’s real appeal has always been the multiplayer. There’s now a whole separate story mode to play co-operatively with friends, either in split screen mode or with up to seven people online. There were some complaints that the original played the first-person shooter formula a little too safe, but the unique new 60-person online versus mode should help to silence most critics for this sequel. Key Features - Co-operative carnage: Join the battle with friends in an 8-player online co-operative story campaign.
- It takes two: Weapons can be used in pairs, including the new “Marksman” semi-automatic rifle, a .44 Magnum revolver, and a chaingun that can double as a sentry gun.
- Know your enemy:Fight more than a dozen new enemies in the Chimera horde, including the invisible Chameleon and underwater Fury creatures.
- Massively multiplayer: Up to 60 people can play online in giant-sized battles in which gamers will be organized into smaller sqauds to focus on specific tasks to win the overall battle.
- Team rewards: Do well in the multiplayer and earn battle points to boost your soldier’s strength, gain score multipliers, and acquire personal shields and other special bonus items.
About the Developer: Insomniac Games Californian developer Insomniac created the first three Spyro the Dragon games on the PSone and the Ratchet & Clank series on PS2 and PS3. Resistance 2> is the latest shooter following Disruptor and Resistance 1 from the studio.

A True Halo Beater... November 22, 2008 11 out of 17 found this review helpful
(I brought this game from the US before English release) Coming from a person who has played Halo 2/3 many a time at mates houses and who really doesn't believe it deserves the praise it gets "A True Halo Beater" could seem a little bias. The reason why I bring this up then is because the first game R:FOM was dubbed as PS3's answer to Halo. But even though I don't think Halo is all that I really didn't think R:FOM was close to Halo. However it was clear that R:FOM had potential, and with the second one the makers really have created something that is better bolder and bigger. (And I really do mean BIGGER!) The first two levels are breath taking. When you first come out to see the chimera ships covering San Francisco you'll be amazed at the level of detail and the real illusion of being in a war/invasion, and that really is what this game does; creates the illusion of you being a soldier in a war, and that there are loads of other separate fights happening all around you. The graphics are superb, and that was such an important element for this game, especially fighting the huge bosses which is a brilliant feature. The single player campaign so far has been an experience which rivals Call of Duty 4 and I'd never thought I'd be saying that.
I haven't played a lot of multiplayer but it seemed very enjoyable. When they said 60 players with no lag I was thinking that's unlikely. But the first game I joined I had 80% or less wireless signal strength, it was 55 players, most if not all of the players aren't from the UK and there was absolutely NO lag.
If you have a HDTV with surround sound then you have to buy this game, its that simple.
To sum is up with one word resistance 2 is IMMENSE.
Resistance 2 Rocks! November 10, 2008 14 out of 22 found this review helpful
Resistance 2 (PS3) This follows on from the popular PS3 launch title 'Resistance: Fall of Man (R:FOM)', and I think does it in some style. Having played the beta, I was fortunate enough to get a copy of this from the US which launched on 4th November.
The game offers three main areas: Campaign, Co-Operative & Competitive. Campaign is the next installment of the offline story, picking up where the R:FOM finished. Insomniac the producers of the game wanted more wow factor for the sequel and I believe they have achieved it, you still have the enemies from the first game but some of the new `bosses' are very impressive. The PS3 handles the action with ease, even when tackling enemies as big as skyscrapers the action & play is very smooth. The story spans 10 major locations with numerous sections in each. Campaign mode uses checkpoints often (sometimes pointlessly) as a kind of autosave feature so that you don't have to do the whole level again.
Those familiar with the first game will know there are 3 difficulty ratings when playing in this mode. Completing the first unlocks `arcade mode' allowing you to play the game using a `number of lives principle' to see how far you get. Completing the hardest difficulty unlocks a 4th called Super Human.
Why you ask? Well with recent upgrades to the Playstation network you now have elements to achieve in the game called trophies. These elements you can share with other PS3 friends to show how far you have progressed through the game. Resistance 2 has approx. 39 trophies to collect with half awarded in campaign mode and half in the online modes, more on that in a minute. The game it's self also still uses ribbons and medals to acknowledge other achievements to. Insomniac have suggested that over 400 hours of game play would be required to collect all trophies, medals & ribbons!
Co-Operative and Competitive are the two online modes available with the game, the first `Co-Op' allows a team of up to 8 people to tackle random challenges in over 6 locations against the Chimera (Computer controlled). It's called Co-Op because a class system has been introduced that encourages you to work as a team, you can still go it alone but it makes these levels much, much harder. The three classes are Soldier, Medic & Special Ops. Although all three classes are armed and ready for action, using your primary class ability often earns you more experience than just killing the enemies. For example the soldier and his chain gun have a shield function that protects others around them, the soldier earns XP for shielding others. The Special Ops earn XP for keeping the soldiers shields & other player weapons topped up with ammo and the medic earns points for healing with a rather interesting gun!
Lastly, `Competitive', pitting teams of PS3 players against each other, again spanning over 6 maps of varying sizes supporting network games of up to 60 people! Having 60 people randomly running around could make for a hectic situation so for the larger games the two teams are further broken down into squads of five people. These squads can then have particular objectives to achieve. Competitive mode includes the usual suspects like Deathmatch & Team Deathmatch and has variations on `Capture the flag'.
The game as you'd expect supports clans [teams of PSN players that play together] and has an excellent in game community section that ties in with the re-launched www.myresistance.net. This provides detailed stats on you & your friends progress on the game as well as forums and other interesting stuff.
Criticisms:- Casual mode difficulty rating for experienced players in campaign mode is too easy, I'd recommend playing the campaign on difficult, although you do still need to revisit particular levels to find intel and complete challenges. The autosave/checkpoint in campaign mode can also frustrate sometimes as it can be too frequent , often saving when ammo is low, making further attempts at a section very difficult.
Overall:- value for money I think is excellent. Completing the campaign mode was very enjoyable. Network modes will please R:FOM and COD4 fans, with those modes the fun is pretty much endless.
The most fun you'd ever have! November 27, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Reistance 2 is the most fun FPS EVER! The co-op is just the most fun I've ever had with a co-op game, it's so simple but addictive. The Multiplayer aspect is just above anything else that you ever played, yes it's better than COD4! When you're bullets hit enemies you get XP, which makes it more addictve. The game's weapons are totally unquie, I mean a gun that shoots through walls, a handgun which has a secondary fire that allows you to detonate bullets. The Single-player element is what Halo 2 and 3 should have been, its epic in scale and features some of the biggest boss battles you will come across. The AI on the enemies are top-notch, they flank, take cover and work in teams to take you down. The story is impressive and unquie really sucks you in and doen't let you go. Resistance is totally different from the first in everyway and improves everything that was wrong with the first. Even if you didn't like the first game or didn't play the first game I would still recommend getting this.
Very good game! November 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this game just yesterday, in which time I have managed to play a huge chunk of the Story Mode (this being the only game to get me off Fallout 3). This game offers a LOT!
The story mode is enegertic and thrilling! The online multiplayer is IMMENSE!!!! 60 players on the same map and NO LAG*! ZOMG!!! I couldn't believe this was possible until I got online and experienced the chaos for myself! The leveling system is very in-depth, and offers a lot of rewards for stat-hungry gamers!
I definately recommend this game to any one who's got a PS3 and enjoys playing "shooters"!
(*There are occasional delays but in total not enough to ruin the experience!)
simply the best November 29, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
i must admit that i thought resistance 1 was one of the best games on any console [yes i have halo on xbox] and after completing the game many many times went on to the online mode which even today is full of players having fun but!! resistance 2 just blows it out of the water the colour is superb [res 1 was a little grey and drab] the ai are proper enemies and more dificult to beat and the online mode is the best ever words cannot describe how good this game BUY IT NOW if you havnt got a ps3 this game alone is the reason to buy one [pick up little big planet while your at it] a1+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
