Go on, Be a legend October 16, 2008 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I received my game yesterday and had a few hours gameplay last night. The speed of the game has slowed down a bit and I was finding it quite easy to dribble past people with the ball with good players. The passing is definately harder. No longer can you just press X in a general direction and will it find your players. There are more interceptions so you have to be carefull where your passing it to.
The shooting has also have a makeover and although I felt the free kicks were slightly easier to score from pinging a shot from outside the box no longer has a high success rate of getting it on target.
The referee's are very strict. Every foul seemed to be a booking and a few straight reds were dished out as well.
After playing be a pro mode on fifa I felt be a legend would be a carbon copy of that but there are a few differences. I started off at Sunderland and I had to do quite a few training matches before I even got on the bench and then wait my turn on the bench. It really is addictive though and I will probably end up playing that more than the master league this year.
Also the fact you can put MP3 files in the game as chants and I think as menu music although I have not done either yet makes this totally customisable unlike the last game.
Overall I'm glad I just rented FIFA and bought this game.
lets get this str8 to spoilt fans October 20, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
pes08 was flawed , after playing the series for many years since iss 98. peso8 was one of the worst , but we still payed it and enjoyed it.
PES09 is full of improvments and the gameplay has become much better, the player movment is easier , passing and ball play is a large factor of improvment. The graphics have changed for the better , and the sound effects aswell. Most teams are updated , however for most pes fans would be use to some of the unlicensed club teams. However when it comes to general fun , PES09 does not fail to deliver and actually has imporved the fun factor since the last game. In pes08 we had referees whistle going nearly everytime, and tackling was an issue. However that has improved and tackling is more easier to master than before.
The ways of scoring have increased , getting goals from crosses is now more easier, defending them aswell depending on the type of defence you have. And more importantly that let pes08 down was the fact that some players were just too lame! , as in players such as Henry and cisse and ronaldo. For eg , with henry you could dash past the defence with his top speed and if you were accurate with the power metre there was 7o percent chance you would score, however that has been made much more difficault , as chasing down players is much more easier than the last game.
there are two new modes, a champions league mode and become a legend. The player realness and looks is what impresses me the most, liscensed players look very realistic and the stadium/pitches are also largely improved.
Overall we are spoilt , another thing is we have very high expectations for both pes and fifa. Pes is very realistic and people are complaining for stupid reasons. truth is we do expect to much , for an example everyone i know who hated PES08 and had it , still played and enjoyed it and were addicted to it !!! it seems nowdays we want the real thing as it is on tv .
Still no.1 October 5, 2008 12 out of 18 found this review helpful
As a former fifa fan, and a current pes fan, I played fifa 09 and was suprised at how much better the series has become, even if it still played rather artificially. So I was really hoping that the PES team got back to making a good game, and after playing the demo I have to say they have! Yes if you want to be critical, there are a few flaws here and there, but you tell me which video game is flawless? Graphics have been improved, ball physics have improved, controls have improved, and most of all this is as close as technology has come to giving us the football experience in our living rooms. However if you are someone who needs Real Santander to have a proper kit, or are confused why Giggs' face is missing a wrinkle, all at the cost of playing a better football sim, then by all means by FIFA.
Become? It is a legend. December 6, 2008 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
Last year I had a PS2 and the reviews for Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 said it was the same as PES 6. So very happy with PES 6 - and for the first time in over 10 years - I didn't buy a Pro Evolution game. It turned out to be a stroke of luck, because by the time I had bought a PS3 I was to learn that EVERYBODY on earth hates PES now (even the people still playing, in hope it'll get better)! So when the demo for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 came out I was worried it might be broken...but it wasn't! Then I worried that the demo was a trick...but it wasn't! It was everything I remember, but better...and harder!
After two weeks of exclusively changing the kits (of which there are only 18 teams without kits) with the superb editing mode, which I tried to get TOO perfect and in the end gave up...after all I did buy it to play football :D The editing is very simple and yet you can get really good results. It doesn't take too long to do all the kits...unless you're like me ;)
Now I've done my kits, I go straight into the new mode, Become A Legend, where you start as a promising 17 year old striker/midfielder and hopefully end up lifting the World Cup. It is by some way the best mode any football game has to offer, and I include the Masters League in that. It has the stats of Football Manager, goals scored, games played, Man of the Match, even minutes played and average match rating. It has the progression of the Masters League, build up your stats to become a better player. You can also give special attention to the stats you need to build up, whether it be speed, dribbling or power. You start for a made up team and told that scouts are watching you. After this first game you will receive offers from a couple of teams, I chose Sunderland. Now you have to fight in training to just get on the bench and I do mean FIGHT. I took me 11 games just to get on the bench! If you play well you get in the first team and bigger clubs will try to sign you. At the bigger club you will contest the bigger trophies, play in Europe and then that all important England call up (or whatever nation you chose at the beginning). In a neat trick, you can put yourself into the game - either with a picture or direct from a camera - with a pretty good result (my nose isn't as big in PES, nice one :D) In-game you have a choice of cameras, the best being vertical wide (ball), although some will find it hard to adjust to at first, because the camera moves about alot and your player will just be a cursor in the distance, but for the most part it really gives you the feeling of being part of the team. At the very beginning, it will very often feel like a goal is impossible, due to the fact that your player is rubbish, but as your player builds up his stats it does get easier.
If only when you get to 30, Become A Legend merges with the Masters League, so you can be a player manager :) Maybe next time ;)
The Masters League hasn't changed much, apart from the excellent scouting system. And the only disappointment is that the goals scored, matches played stats (that could be view after every match) have been removed. But it really doesn't matter, considering I'll be playing Become A Legend.
The sound in this game is hit and miss. The crowd effects are superb (which you can add to if you like) reacting to moments in the game (and as a side note, the crowd actually stand when a player is through on goal). The commentary - is as usual - below par, and it wouldn't be so bad if the actual quality of the recording was any good, at times it sounds like it's been phone in. And Mark Lawrenson sets the benchmark for worst commentary ever, you can tell he's just reading - without ANY emotion - from a script.
For the hardcore who play on Top Player, the game has been slowed down to a realistic pace, meaning you really have to think about how you are going to break that defence. This is where stats mean what they say. No more can you easily win promotion with a team that consists mostly of the default players in the Masters League. Shooting seems easier...until you realise that you're 3-1 down.
Online is just about playable, but I wouldn't recommend it. The Konami servers simply aren't good enough.
But having said that what's good about this game, far outweighs the bad. If you want a game just to play online I'd go for FIFA, but if you don't there is only one game you need.
Review comparing fifa 09 and pro evo 2009 October 15, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
after buying fifa a few weeks back i decided i would buy both fiftball games this year. i thought fifa was a very good game considering i am a pes fan. Then today i got my copy of pro evo two days early at first i didn't like it i thought fifa was way better but after about 20 minutes i realized that pro evo is just in a whole other league when it comes to gameplay i loved every minute of it. I your going for pure game play pro evo is your man but if you want everything in one such as better online and better team stats then fifa is what you should get. there both good games so you cant go wrong
