 PSP 3000 - A jazzed-up future proofing October 19, 2008

I got a psp slim and light last christmas. I have found this to be an amazing handheld. I don't have the time and space to have an Xbox 360 or PS3, the PSP however can go anywhere and you can put the system onto stand by, ready to play later on. This is a great machine, it even plays movies (UMD discs and Digitally stored movie files)music and works as a photo/picture viewer. I love this machine.
When I found out that the PSP 3000 was coming out I was really excited about the brighter screen, anti-reflection and in-built microphone. Basically I spent an extra 20 getting this and yes, the screen works much better in brighter light, the colours are definitely sharper, the microphone works well (I made a skype call with it and my headphones in my ears)and the case is more resistant to finger prints.
To be honest these are features which should have originally been on the first machine. THESE ARE NOT GROUNDBRAKING! My slim and light was malfunctioning so I exchanged it for the psp 3000. If you already have a slim and light, think very carefully before buying this. You are not getting more bang for your buck! If you are deciding between this and the slim and light go for this, because you will have the machine that the first slim and light should have been.

The main features include:
1. 5 times the contrast ratio compared with the PSP-2000. The screen also has a faster response rate which will make graphics smoother
2. The PSP-3000 has a built-in microphone on the bottom right next to the PlayStation Logo. The microphone coupled with Skype which comes pre-installed means you can indulge in voice chat as soon as you are in a WiFi zone
3. The AV output has been expanded and beams video in a interlaced format giving better refresh rates and sharper images on the TV
4. The body has a textured surface which provides better protection against fingerprints. All this while keeping the trademark glossy finish
5. The new screen uses an anti-reflective surface giving a better view of the screen outdoors or in highly lit places

Let's get things clear here. This probably isn't worth buying if you already own a PSP slim and lite, fair enough. But if you don't yet own a PSP then you should definitely consider buying one. All the 1,2 and 3 star reviews are reflective of an unimpressive upgrade, and by no means represent the attributes of the system itself.
The PSP is a very cool little gaming device capable of PS2 quality visuals; it plays film and music media; it works as a camera (with the correct add-on), sat nav, has wireless internet access and can link to your PS3 while you are out and about via remote play. It is truly versatile.
It's not as user friendly as the DS and a second analogue stick would have been a worthwhile addition. If you are a casual gamer then perhaps Nintendo's machine is more for you as the games are more geared towards accessible input, but if you want to play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the train then this is the one.

I do not understand Amazon's 'Currently unavailable message(2007)'??? It will be available from 17th October 2008 RRP150. There are plenty of images and details of the PSP 3000 on various other web sites if you google them - visually no change from PSP 2000.
Anyhow I intend to purchase the PSP 3000 instead of new iPod Nano. We already own PSP 2000 and iPod nano and I prefer the PSP which has much more to offer.
It was reported that Sony has will launch the PSP-3000 in the UK on 17th October and cost GBP 149.99. That makes the slightly redesigned model around GBP 10 more expensive than the existing Slim & Lite hardware being replaced. The silver PSP-3000, which features a brighter screen and built-in microphone, will be bundled with Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters two days earlier for around EUR 199. This will be followed in "early November" by a 4GB memory entertainment pack bundled with a black PSP-3000 for the same price.
Manufacture of the Slim & Lite PSP will come to a halt sometime this month; Sony Europe boss David Reeves also previously said that there may be time-limited price cut to help clear this model from shop shelves.

Ignore the boo boys who are probably X-box fanboys (they don't have a handheld console!), the PSP 3000 is a very smart piece of kit. If you want to go for ultra cutesy games, then the DS is for you. However if you want to go for a wide range of games (currently Championship Manager 2009 is eating up a lot of spare time!), interent connectively (surfing the web using wi-fi), storing your videos, photos and music (all top quality) then this is the handheld for you. The new screen shows amazing quality and glare resistance, and the UMD vidoes also play with excellent quality (the videos tend to use up the battery quicker though). I got the FIFA 09 game bundled in, but you can probably get two or three games with it if you shop around and get a good deal. The internet connectivity is also ingenious; I saved an episode of MOTD to my PS3 hard drive, and went to the local which had wi-fi. I was able to connect to my PS3 through the internet, and watched MOTD on my PSP! A fantastic device, people who criticise obviously do not fully utilise the PSP for all it can do. A very good buy for christmas!
