Amazon.co.uk Preview It's easy to see why there was so much fighting amongst the console manufacturers to try and make this game a format exclusive. Where early launch titles may have disappointed this game not only looks like a next generation game but it plays like it too. Taken at face value the story casts you as an Arabic fighter in 1191, out to assassinate the nine Western leaders of the Third Crusade. There is more to the story than that though making it more than simple historical adventure it first seems.Since it's developed by many of the same team behind Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it's no surprise to find the game using many of the same ideas. With the bold claim that you can climb on or over anything in the game world that sticks out more than two inches, this allows incredible freedom of movement, with a style of acrobatics heavily influenced by Parkour/free running. The game also innovates in terms of combat, with each of the face buttons controlling a different area of the body, rather like a marionette. As such one button controls the feet, one your open hand, one your weapon hand and the other your head. As an assassin stealth plays an important role in the game too, but here it's often a case of hiding in plain sight as you mill around inside large crowds of people. Everyone will react to you realistically though, so if you go around pushing people out of the way, or even killing them, the crowd will react and report you. With stunning graphics and genuinely innovative gameplay this is destined to be one of the most important releases of the year. HARRISON DENT

ASSASSIN of all the other games out there... November 16, 2007 11 out of 18 found this review helpful
this game is unreal! oh my god! i got it this morning, and been playing all day... cant get enough. its Visually unlike anything ive ever seen before and the gameplay is incredible! the game plays like a beautiful dream. the only odd thing i noticed is the slightly long loading time, but that is so easily compensated by amazing storyline and a character you gradually start to relate to. Become THE assassin with Assassin's creed!
finally a truly next gen game November 16, 2007 17 out of 29 found this review helpful
Right firstly, please IGNORE IGNS review of this, its so of the mark. try gamespot who rate the game as i and all of my friends see this. This is a truly a next gen game, we've had few bad eggs this month, with jericho, pro evo etc, but this game on level with bioshock is the best game of 2007. COD4 is up there also, but 2 short, halo 3 is overrated. think of this game as Metal gear solid, mixed with prince of persia. the graphics are amazing. i find myself just looking in awe. the gameplay isnt linear or repitive as ign said, but innovative. ok they messed up by reavling the twist at the very start of the game, but forget that, this game is a effing masterpiece, words cannot descibe how good this game is. quite simple, this game is a game you have to have

The Thinking Man's Adventure November 19, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you wade into this story expecting gung-ho action and Gladiator-esque battles, then you came to the wrong place.
If you came expecting a plot of unusual intelligence, a historically accurate world, and play mechanics that range from subtle reconnaissance to exhilirating parkour, then this is definitely the game for you.
You need to approach the story as if you were reading a book. There is a heavy theme of duality; piecing the two stories together, and trying to pre-empt the point where the plot-lines clash is one of the greatest intelligent thrills the game has to offer.
Even the assassinations require thought, intelligence gathering, planning, and a clear strategy in your head before you can receive the go-ahead from your superiors.
This is not a traditional action game. It is an incredible story, brilliantly told. And like all good stories, it alternates between slow-burn narrative and frantic prose told on the fly. As an experience, it delivers the goods: five stars.
Know the creed... November 20, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having now nearly finished the game, I am happy to post up a review of the game, and I can certainly say that this was one game I wasn't disappointed with. The game follows a young, arrogant assasin who botches up an important mission and ends up stripped of his rank and having to work his way back up to the top by assasinating people during the crusades. The other story however, is that all this takes place in the mind of one of his ancestors who is being investigated in order to find out more about assasination. Confusing, but its alright. The graphics are stunning. Massive open environments lined with buildings, trees, towers, and people. Beautiful lighting, effects and details scatter the places from a 10th century Jerusalem and Damascus to his own home. The gameplay is where it is in its element though. The game is broken down into two sections. 1) Socially acceptable stuff-i.e. walking or blending in with crowd-you just tap corresponding button for this. 2) Socially unacceptable stuff-i.e. climbing, running, assasinating, basically hold RB. The game is basically about assasinating with other elements involved such as pickpocketing, intimidation, saving people, and listening in to conversations. There is also the option of finding flags and viewpoints and jumping from them into conveniently placed hay stacks. You can assasinate either sneakily or in open daylight. You have your small daggers, your sword and some cool hand knife thing. Great fun. The way you play will affect how people act towards you. Save them citizens and they will help you by making it difficult for guards to chase you, annoy them and they will run and scream from you alerting guards. Then there are counter attacks and other things. This is a big game. Really, this game is massive and in order to believe this, you need to see it for yourself and I can guarantee you wont be dissapointed.
