 must have buy for XBOX360 owner November 17, 2008
After I bought this product I read the review that was put on before mine.
I thought have I just paid the guts of 70 for something that is not going to last a week. But don't fear like me you already have, I have being using mine for 3 weeks now and not a problem.
The sound quality is terrific and the setup easy I would recommend these to any xbox360 user. Remember to buy an USA 2 UK travel adaptor for the plug.

I've had these headphones for about 6 months now. I got them off a guy who imported them from the US, where they've been about for a while now. Overall I'm pretty happy with them. I paid 90 quid at the time, and I don't feel robbed. :)
The sound is unbelievably loud, I have to have the headphones volume right down in order to not deafen myself! There is quite a lot of headphone hiss, as these are infra-red headphones, which also means that that they need a direct line of sight, sorta (I'll explain further down!). However, you only really notice the hiss in quiet or silent parts of the game. If there's any music you can easily ignore the hiss, and when the action's happening and there's lots of loud sounds you don't hear it at all.
The hiss can be minimised by keeping the transmitter away from any big electrical equipment, and running it on a mains conditioner/filter extension cable. The cable helps filter out electronic interference, and I've found it helps a little. One thing to note is that I do have an American version of this headset, so I have to use a plug adaptor in order for this to work. Because the adaptor isn't tecnically designed for UK mains, that could increase the amount of hiss my headphones make.
The infra-red transmitter is very powerful, and I find the signal bounces off the walls well. I can completely cover one of the dome receivers, and the other still picks up enough to have an unnoticeable change in audio. Often I can get half way down the corridor before the sound cuts out, and that's way after I'm out of the line of sight! It must be quite a strong infra red signal! However, I live in a basement flat, so I don't get a lot of sunlight into it. Sunlight can weaken the signal, take the wii for example. However I'd imagine the transmitter is strong enough to overcome this.
Despite the hiss though, the sound is still pretty good, and gives a good positional sound for first person shooters. The bass is better than I expected, but don't expect subwoofer equivalent. The sound does sometimes get a little distorted if the volume is really loud and the bass boost is on, but it doesn't happen that often, and it's usually a sign that the batteries are running low. Speaking of which, batteries don't last as long as you would find in a pair of Sennheiser wireless cans, but the X3s use standard AA batteries, so I just have 4 batteries, and as soon as 2 run out, I swap them for the two in the battery recharger. It's not really an issue.
By far one of the best things about the X3 headphones is the voice chat options for the xbox 360. Not only is it easy to hear everybody in game despite excessive amounts of gunfire and explositions, but when you speak, you hear your own voice through the headphones, so you don't end up shouting into the mic, this avoiding making your voice overly noisy online, and disturbing anyone within earshot! The mic works well, and I don't have to shout to be easily heard, plus the flexi-cable that the mic is on the end of is long and allows for a wide range of positioning to get the best pickup without the heavy breathing! :)
The one caveat with the voice system is that you're connected to the xbox controller by a cable, but the controller is wireless also, so it's not really a problem, and the cable is very thin so you don't really notice it anyway.
The headphones do make my ears hurt a little, but it usually takes a long gaming session to do so. It's not so painful that I can't just ignore it and keep on gaming though! :)
As for the previous review, my headphones have been fine for all the time I've owned them, and had no problems with them at all.
In conclusion, you can definately get better sounding headphones if you go for a good set of wired cans, and you can definately get wireless cans that have less hiss, but you won't get a pair that work this well with your xbox and allows you to chat easily and not have to revert to some awkward DIY option for having decent voice and sound through the headphones. It's also useful for blocking out the noise from your 360 - mine sounds like it's gonna take off at any minute, but with these on, I can't hear it at all except in silent sections, where it competes with the hiss for the loudest sound!
Oh, and you don't have to use them with your xbox 360, the transmitter has a standard 3.5mm headphone style jack for input, much like most wireless headphones.
Turtle Beach, if you're reading this - make a set of headphones that use RF, and make the things bigger so they sit around your ears instead of on them, and I'll love you forever! :D

I've had the X3 gaming headphones for about a year now as I bought mine form the US. They are superb for late night gaming as my I didn't want to wake my wife up. It's really surpising how much you miss out if you only have sound through the TV. I've been playing Call of Duty series and you really can hear the sound of footsteps around you especially on search/destroy etc. This makes discovering/eliminating your opponent much easier. The headphones are very comfortable for long periods of time and they take 2 AAA batteries. The headphones tend to eat through normal AAA batteries that you use once so I'd suggest having 4 or more rechargable batteries and rotating your charging so that you're never without a fully charged battery. The receiver is quite small and connects to your Xbox360 sound jacks so you get sound directly from the source. It's infrared transmitter so the headphones need to be in direct line of sight of the receiver.
Also don't be fooled, it's not actually totally cordless headset. The only cordless part is from the Xbox console to the headphones itself. You still need a cord to plug into your controller for the voice chat which I've found to be a little too flimsy and thin for my liking. The wire for my connection from the controller to the headset has been falling apart for some time now as it's too thin and better protection of the wiring would have been nicer (hence the 4 stars overall). The good thing is that you have independent voice volume control which is like a normal XBox headset (the volume dial is on the jack that you plug into your controller). The game volume is controlled on the left side of the headset. The on/off button is also on the left side of the headset and you should be careful when you put them away to ensure that you've turned them off otherwise you'll come back to some dead batteries. There is also a bass boost button that i've never actually had the need to use.
Overall though a very good pair of gaming headphones that will, despite the thin wiring, enhance your gaming experience. Currently I'd say they are the best headphones out there.

I had my for 4 days i got from america had to wait for a convertor as the plug was american that took 2 days to arrive. After 2 days of playing the mic cut out and never worked again.
