5 out of 5 stars Let's all calm down and review this correctly   November 16, 2008

Firstly, I can understand the initial frustration of activating this game and actually getting things started. But, from the looks of the reviews on here it appears as though loads of people have logged straight onto the Amazon review page on Friday night and in their anger given the game a 1 star rating. This is crazy.
I too had the same problems on Friday night, but sucked it up, understood that tonnes of people are all trying to activate their game on the same night so just left it alone and did it Saturday morning - when it worked just fine.
I've since spent nearly all of the weekend playing and have been completely addicted right the way through.
It's a fantastic game and I really don't quite know what some of the people who have slagged it off - gameplay wise - were expecting...
Highly recommended, don't be put off by all the daft 1 star reviews on here!!

5 out of 5 stars Ignore the moaners...   November 18, 2008

FM2009 is the best game produced to date by Sports Interactive, of that there can be no doubt whatsoever. Some people are choosing to complain about the inclusion of Digital Rights Management by giving falsely low review scores here - ignore them! While DRM may not be ideal (it means you have to register your game online or over the phone), this is only being done to try and limit piracy.

The addition of an excellent 3D view to the same match engine, and a myriad of other additions make this offering a significantly improved offering to previous years. I struggled to get into FM2007 and 2008, but I've had no problems getting into FM2009 at all - highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Seems pretty good to me!   November 15, 2008

I got my game through this morning and loaded it up just fine. I think (as you should all already know) that the server just got too busy with all the FM fans loading up all day yesterday. But just for any fans you are thinking of getting it sometime soon, dont be put off by the really negative comments displayed. If you liked FM08, you'll love FM09. Thats just it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game....... Best of the series so far   November 14, 2008

Right where to begin, first i completely agree on what people have been saying with regards the installation of the game, althought i had no problems with this there should not have been this much fuss to install the game.

However once you overlook those issues and installed the patch the actual game itself is by far the best of the current series (i would say second only to CM01/02) and is a huge improvement on FM2008. The 3d match engine is a welcome addition although do not expect fifa or pes graphics it is another way of seeing whether your tactics are working or not and what area of the team needs improving. the 3d match engine isnt perfect but it is a good start.

Other new features include the press conference, the questions are quite varied, although the answers fill more like your answering a questionaire, but they dont happen all the time and you can choose to have your assistant attend.

Transfer are better from what i have experienced, it is now easier to sell players, and buy players for reasonable prices.

i could go on however overall its a big improvement on last years version there are a few niggles here and there but none that ruined the gameplay for me. unpatched i rate it 3/5 patched 4.5/5

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, immersive, frustrating, satisying   November 20, 2008

Ok so yes the installation process was irritating- the numbers and lettered printed in a way that was hard to decpher. I had to get help off the web only to be told that an I might be a 1, a V might be a Y, a 0 might be a Q etc... that was retarded and frustrating. Also annoying is the fact that they use us mugs as the beta testers and then make us download a patch for a few hours on release day just so we can play it with less bugs.

Anyway i'm going to review the game as I am playing it now rathe than condemn it for those mistakes. It is Football Manager as we know and love it with a few added features which I think add to the experience. The 3D match engine, which I didn't like at first, has grown on me though I wish it didn't demand so much from my computer considering it looks like an Atari game. Now I watch my games with low graphics and no sound (I normally mute my PC anyway) and I now believe that it DOES add something to the game and can help you devise tactics. The best way to play it I feel is to switch between views so I do still watch in 2D as well. The press conferences make the game even more involving and you delve deeper into the role of manager, being put under pressure my journalists and keeping your head is rather satisfying... though you can always just storm out.

There are other tweaks and changes here and there which I won't go through individually but I have to say i definitely feel this is an improvement on the last edition. There are some good new features which add to the experience and show a lot of potential. After the knee jerk reaction to the annoying installation and the need to patch the game it is plain to see that Football Manager 2009 is great game and will eat hours of your life. There are some severely over harsh ratings on this page and I feel it needs balancing out because it gives the wrong impression (not that I don't understand some of the frustrations expressed) but what can I say? I'm having a blast playing it so...
