Sorry Tiger, but this has gameplay in buckets! April 5, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of this type of golf for sometime now. I owned the PS1 and PS2 versions and so naturally purchased the PS3 one.
1. This isn't TIGER and was never meant to create anything similar. The physics and graphics are not supposed to be 'lifelike'. EGWT has always been cartoonesque. This makes it both fun and interesting.
2. The online mode is done very well. The only drawback that I found was that some of the tournaments (up to 50 players) can take sometime in slow and very slow mode. This allows a certain amount of time for each hole played and in these modes you can finish the hole and be sitting doing nothing for a minute or two. It certainly makes things interesting when you trying to beat a player from the other side of the world, or your mates sofa!
3. Playability is now available in either the traditional swing bar at the bottom of the screen or by using advanced swing, which allows for a slightly more realistic take on a golf swing.
4. The graphics are superb. The grass looks real (even to the extent of sun browning) and the environments are top notch. The safari course is worthy of mention.
5. The sound is by far the only let down. Plinky plonky tunes that get on your nerves and voice overs that sound cheesey and vague. This is understandable as the port comes from a well known series of Japanese golf games and it's developed with that market in mind in particular. The longevity is harnessed to this market, with rewards and costumes being given for good gameplay, allowing extra characters and courses to be introduced over a steady period of time.
If you are heavily into TIGER or want to experiment with a different type of golf game, then EGWT is a worthy addition to your PS3 collection.
Simply The Best March 30, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have always been a fan of this series of games, right from early PS1 days so when I heard that a version was coming out on the PS3 I could not wait.
The game does not disappoint, it has the same gameplay as in previous games and a new advanced play, both involve hitting the x button 3 times. The advanced version is a touch harder.
You start off with two characters (male and female) and face challenges with and if you win you can choose a reward. After doing so many challenges you become a Level 2 player and so on.
The graphics are simply stunning and I cannot fault them in any way. So colourful and sharp, making it a joy to play.
You can play online (if you are connected) for free. Basically you choose a club house to go in, select a floor (usually one with the most people in). Once in you can communicate with other people via your little character which you can freely roam around a room. This was quite novel after being used to the static rooms of the XBox 360.
In the lobby you can select tournaments to enter, not all are available to you and some have requirements you have to meet. Up to 50 people can play at once. If no games are available at the time you are in the lobby you can reserve a place in a tournament and then you just have to return to the lobby at that time to play. You can also host games or play in other people's games if there are any running. Both types of games have simultaneous play. In the tournament version you don't see any of the other players at all, but you see the results on the tournament board where you can also communicate with the other players if you wish. In the game version you see ghost players of the other players in the game which is quite fun.
I love it and cannot recommend it highly enough. I do have Tiger Woods which is a more true to life version of a golf game with the realistic characters and rewards but Everybody's Golf is just pure fun.
It tames the tiger March 31, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ok no past experience of Everybody's Golf (so can't compare to previous incarantations), I used to always get Tiger Woods series until I felt the changes each year didn't justify the outlay. I also thought it was a bit too easy. So I decided to try this out and its hooked me. The gameplay, the humour, the graphics (I'll explain later). Its been many a year since I've had marathon gaming sessions spent on one game. Its such an easy game to play, with many different levels of difficulty - if you can't nail a straight shot each time-just go for a set of clubs that guarantees perfect impact every time- however you won't hit it as far. The graphics-yes the players are cartoony, but the courses are lush, the water effects are superb (reminded me of the water in Drake uncharted). The trees are lush with different foliage, colours and types of leaves are very crisp and much more detailed than Tiger Woods. The bunkers again display great detail. As the sand comes up and hits my player in the face in the follow through, I almost find myself wiping my face. My experience of online -so far - has been very enjoyable- very intuitive user interface. The tournament golf online has up to 50 players-great fun- and quickly found out I'm not very good- but even if your last- you can get your name up in lights for a long put or chip in. I also played an online game with 6 other players- you all play at once with your opposition semi-transparent-great fun.
Whether you take golf seriously or not, i think this is a must have addition to anyone's game collection.
Great Fun April 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not normally a golf fan, but this game is brilliant. So much fun and so addictive.
It doesn't take itself too seriously but the game play is still great, and simple! Its great fun unlocking new gear etc. Online play is great, not played too much online as still going through single player but playing against friends is great!
Since theres not that many games out for the PS3 right now this is a must have for any collection.
Fun Fun Fun! June 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an exceptionally fun game. The game oozes charm on all levels and is highly addictive mainly because you have so much fun playing it. There are unavoidable camparisons with Tiger Woods games, and i have to say I have more fun playing Everybody's Golf as Tiger seems a little like hard work at times. I also think that I prefer the control in EG because you set up your shot deciding on power, direction and spin and then there is a tense wait to see where your ball finishes up - Tiger allows you to suddenly put on loads of spin mid-air to try and correct a misjudged shot (obviously I use it all the time playing Tiger, but it does seem like cheating). Other things I like include not knowing the wind speed until after the first drive and the lack of a putting guide. EG, under a very cutsey exterior, is a brilliant and, dare I say it, in some ways a technically more realistic golf game than Tiger Woods. Oh, it is also huge fun!!
