better than ever December 15, 2008 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
The movies were good in standerd def but on bluray they realy come to life. If your a fan of Harry Potter you will love the bluray edition even more. Well worth the price.
An Unfortunate Disappointment January 8, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Harry Potter blu-ray set was one of the first DVDs I ordered when I bought my blu-ray player a couple of weeks ago because I'm a manic Potter fan and couldn't wait to see the films in HD brilliance.
Unfortunately, like a fellow reviewer, I have been left disappointed. Films one and two, the oldest in the series, look no different to their normal counterparts - the picture is just as grainy and dull and theres no hugely noticeable difference in the sound. Films three and four are a little better - the sound is good and the active scenes do look good but still lack real blu-ray colour, vibrance and detail. Goblet of Fire is particularly dark and dull in places.
Order of the Phoenix, the most recent film, is the only one which looks like a true blu-ray film rather than a plain DVD slapped with a special sticker. The picture is incredibly crisp and colourful and the sound is much clearer than the normal counterpart - the picture perfect example of what the other four films should have been.
My recommendation is simple - buy the blu-ray Order of the Phoenix ASAP as it is magnificent - but don't rest too many hopes on the quality of the others.
Stay away from the Blue Ray Version!!! January 4, 2009 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was well exited to buy the Blue Ray Box Set of the Harry Potter movies and couldn't wait for them to arrive. I already owned the first 3 Harry Potter movies on DVD and thought, that I was saving money in the long run - as Blue Ray is High Def. The Box Set finaly arrived and I got my children together in order to watch the first installment. But what a "horror" it turned out to be - a picture quality of a DVD! I even double checked if I put in the DVD Version by accident, but to my utter disapointment, I didn't. I stopped the movie after only 10 min. and put the other 4 Harry Potter movies into my Blue Ray Player and was just heading for more disapointment - the same grainy picture on all 5 Harry Potter movies. I strongly advise you guys to think twice, if you realy want to spend your hard earned cash on 5 Harry Potter "DVDs" in disguise.
