 The definitive production of Sondheim's great musical August 15, 2008

Contrary to rumour, this disc IS compatible with Region 2 DVD players. However, the picture is NTSC, so it will not work on all TVs.
This 2006 Broadway revival of Sondheim's Company is to my mind the definitive production. Raul Esparza conveys so much emotion in the role of Robert, and he is supported by a wonderful cast. Although Elaine Stritch was legendary in the original 1970 recording as Joanne, Barbara Walsh makes the role completely her own.
The show is well-filmed for TV by director Lonny Price, whose staging of Sweeney Todd is also well worth checking out on DVD.
A few problems with the audio synchronization around the beginning, but it doesn't detract too much from an extremely witty and engaging show. George Furth's dialogue still sparkles, and Sondheim's tunes are beautiful.

This disc is NOT 'All Regions' but Region A. So if your machine only plays Region B like mine you're just throwing your money away.
Not a happy buying experience.
