This performance from the 2007 Aix-en-Provence Festival is highly recommendable as a first choice if you are new to the High Definition format. It is well played in the orchestral part (with a commendable Sir Simon Rattle and his Berliner Philarmoniker) and the sung parts are good or very good for the most part (I found the Hunding too young and a bit stilted, though).
The theatrical part is interesting, with a geometrical stage that rises and drops itself according to the action. And the dramatic performance of the singers is also good (with, again, the exception of the stiff Hunding of Mikhail Petrenko).
I would recommend it as a valuable addition to any collection of opera as it is, but with the bonus of the HDTV format, I would say it is a must for those with a Blu-Ray player in need of software. Highly enjoyable.
