Vagina Dentata October 17, 2008 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
If you are looking for a straight and gory horror movie, then this may not be your thing. Although this film is in the horror genre it is really a very dark and humorous black comedy.
Poor Dawn is born with vagina dentata, or vaginal teeth; this is a girl who can really bite back. Whilst Dawn is demure and a good little girl, as a member of the Purity League her teeth don't matter as she is chaste. But matters are about to change. After a heavy petting session one lad can't stop and rapes our poor heroine, only to have a frighful shock.
As Dawn looks for a hero who can penetrate and defy the teeth, lost digits and appendages start to mount up. Can Dawn be cured of her awful curse, or is she destined to a life of no love?
This film may quite easily become a cult movie, only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, you will have a good laugh and squeam at the missing appendages. I thought this was really good and hopefully others will too.
WARNING:- Although this film is based on myths and a strong folklore tradition, if as a woman you do find that you do have a tooth down below please see your doctor. I believe that this condition is called a dermic cyst, and you may also find hair, this is because the cyst is made up form egg cells from your ovary. This can be hereditary, so I am led to believe. Your doctor can make arrangements so that you can have it removed.
A great dark comedy. Not a horror movie... November 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just to warn everyone, that if you buy this expecting a 'Saw' like horror film - you won't get it. This has been completely miss-advertised, making it look very serious and severe, however its a very dark, quirky and funny comedy. If you start watching it with this in mind, I'm sure you would enjoy it. Its a very good film.
Sink your teeth into this! January 7, 2009 'Teeth' isn't what you'd expect. Lots of people on here apparently don't seem to like it, but 'Teeth' has rather unexpectedly become my favourite film. It is fantastic to watch the change in our protagonist (a chaste girl named Dawn) from slappable goody two shoes to an unlikely predator. In fact it is this fascinating change that makes this film so watchable. I'd like to highlight the cinematic shots used for symbolic references throughout the film, which make the film so ultimately rewatchable. Every time you watch it you will discover something more, and the end will leave you wanting more. It's an unusual premise for a film, and will probably make you squirm, but at the same time it will make you wonder and think carefully, and films like that are hard to come by. This is not mindless entertainment, but carefully characterised and beautifully shot. If you want horror you won't really find it, however you will find some very black humour, some fantastic acting, and some wonderful cinematography.
Enjoyably quirky, but it's just too odd. July 16, 2008 33 out of 38 found this review helpful
Teeth is destined to be the most talked about film of the year.
By now, anybody searching for this item will know what it's about. It's every man's nightmare. Basically, due to living very close to a toxic power plant, a sweet little blonde girl begins to grow an extra set of teeth... but not in her mouth.
Get ready for lots of screaming, passing out and bloody stumps.
Teeth is ultimately a one joke film. It's like the writers thought of the idea but didn't know where to take it, therefore Teeth doesn't have much of a plot. The acting is OK, but never quite believable, and the direction is fine.
As scary and gruesome as it is hilarious and twisted, Teeth hits the spot pretty well. At the end of the day, 'It does exactly what it says on the tin.'
Sharp November 30, 2008 Not so much a conventional horror as black, vaguely feminist comedy. Your enjoyment of the film will depend on whether you own a penis or not. If so, be prepared to squirm whilst laughing at the sheer OTT scenes of detached little sausages. There's also a subtle satire on US sexual abstinence cults - though the aforementioned scenes are enough to put anybody off.
It's a great idea and there a theme of suppressed female sexuality running throughout, but there's really nowhere you can go with it once you get over the initial shock. Consequently, the film kind of peters out and we are left with Dawn as the avenging angel against sexual predators everywhere.
It's not a film that everybody will get but it deserves to be watched if only for the quirky and wonderfully tasteless premise.
