Incredible, touching, heartwarming and uplifting May 12, 2008

An exhilarating, beautiful study of a teacher-pupil relationship that juggles more facets than a well-oiled Rubik's cube, this romance/drama/thriller/prison movie from Germany is like nothing you've seen before. Our two protagonists are Jenny, a piano thrashing prodigy who pummels her prison guards into mushy pulps between mad bouts of ivory tinkling, and Traude, an elderly, stiff-upper-lipped frau who insists that the wild Jenny be tamed and trained for a prestigious piano competition. The prison authorities won't allow it, so the duo have no choice but to escape the grim gaol together and win the contest.
I don't think that piano-playing will become the new rock n' roll, but it is clear that director Kraus wants it to be the new punk. The mesmerising Hannah Herzsprung, who plays hip-hop and Beethoven medleys with her hands cuffed together behind her back, is incredible in this film. It is more than worthy of the 'Shine' comparisons it has been getting.

Don't have to say much, this a must have movie.
I miss this at the cinema so was eager to wait for the DVD - It turned up watch it on a quite night in and all I can is WOW! It deserves more than a standing ovation
