A good old fashioned Punch Up! June 13, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Rock plays Chris Vaughn a retired US Special Forces Soldier who has returned home to set up a new life for himself. Yet when he returns home he finds the place he left behind is now a dilapidated crime riddled shell with his old school friend, Hamilton now running the show. Together with a mate (Johnny Knoxville), Chris Vaughn decides to take a stand against the drug dealers and take back his old town! This movie is only about 1hour & 10min long (makes a refreshing change to the 2hr long movies which keep coming out) but saying that, that's really all you need. The film moves at a great pace with the action heating up in the first 15 minutes and doesn't let up until the very end. Each fight scene is amazingly played out using the good old fashion methods, none of this defying gravity just a large plank of wood and some hard raw punching. This is a great honest movie, its not trying to be anything special. So just sit back, watch and enjoy a thoroughly good film!
Mines a cedar !!!!!!!! January 28, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Cracking film with some great fight scenes, good story and acting. The Rock does look the part I must say wih a cedar in his hand. Bottom line well worth the money on a Friday night with a four pack and pizza. The only moan is the film is very short.
Great film, one of The Rock's best. April 23, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I saw this on Sky Box Office recently and it's a great movie, probably the best I've seen the Rock in. It's based on real events, so the action is kept quite realistic, with a fairly short finale with the big bad guy at the end highlighting the fact. The Rock and Knoxville pull off good performances and it's a well edited and paced movie. However, it's seems really short and I think clocked in just over an hour, though I hope the extras make up for that. Definitley worth a rent first, but WWF/WWE/ The Rock fans won't be dissapointed.
This film was the People's Bestbow May 25, 2005 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
Wow. I am a huge Rock fan. I have read his books, his autobiography and motivational books. I have seen him perform live three times, once in London, once in Cardiff and once in the USA. He won three times, twice with the People's Elbow and the other time when the other wrestler, HHH, was disqualified for using the WWF belt as a weapon. I saw this on DVD. The film was really fun. The story was amazingly good and the Rock acted really well. The other actors were obviously not as good as the Rock at acting or fighting, the Rock won all his fights. However the Rock did not use as many wrestling moves as I would have liked, for instance he could have used the Rock Bottom in many occassions but instead he punched/kicked them. The Rock plays an ex-marine in the film and has a block of wood as a weapon. This is the only let down. In Scorpian King, his best film, he uses a real weapon, the sword, and acts more like a wrestler. Buy this film and be surprised by the realness of the fighting, sometimes you actually think theRock is going to lose, but does he!? Find out yourself!Best Wishes Sam
Delightful April 14, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
What a lovely little film this is. The Rock and Johnny Knoxville were delightful. Some great bounce-ups and terrific humour. Great to fill in time when you do not need anything too serious. Say what you like, Rocky is an OK actor. First class - if short.
