The Tudors: Season 2 begins with all the passion, violence and dark intrigue of the award-winning first series. This is a great follow up to the first series, and although I thought that was great, I think the second series is better and has grown up. I think it is faster paced than the first series and less sex and violence for the sake of it, I felt sometimes that the first series put it in there for shock value. This series, you begin to really understand the characters, their plotting and way of thinking. Not sure how they can keep it up for all his wives, they may have to kill off 2 per series now! Also, not sure how Jonathan Rhys Meyers will turn into the fat king he became in the later years, however looking forward to finding out!
Even though I watched this on TV, bought the series as well, as this is one I will definitely be watching again. Looks especially good in HD, so if you get the chance, this version should be the one you purchase!
Great second series - bring on season 3. October 19, 2008

Very impressive 2nd season and again great acting by the cast and particularly a powerful performance from Natalie Dormer who plays Anne Boleyn.
The main story of season 2 is really the fall of Anne Boleyn and of the Catholic church.

Quite a few reviews on the DVD but not the Blu-Ray as yet.
For a little extra money you get a stunning picture transfer and clarity of detail, so if you have HD capability well worth going for the superior disc format.
As to the series, yes there are inaccuracies and certainly for the 3rd Season they need to look at porking up and aging Jonathan Rhys-Meyer a bit. However there is no denying the character acting which can't help but pull you into the story. The balance between modern idiom and historical speech is about right.
The last two eposodes are compelling with the downfall of Anne, the framing (?) of her supposed lovers and the chillingly depicted mass beheadings (I bet the guy playing the headsman had fun). The last episode is very poignant with the build up to Anne's execution, the delayed arrival of the executioner from France and the tension of the whole situation. The final scene showing Henry's gluttony paves the way nicely for Season 3.
Good entertainment and almost inevitable this series will be collecting awards at the BAFTA's.
