Product Description Tim Roth, Liv Tyler, William Hurt, Edward Norton
Amazon.co.uk Review A more accessible and less heavy-handed movie than Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk, Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk is a purely popcorn love affair with Marvel's raging, green superhero, as well as the old television series starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast within him. Edward Norton takes up where Eric Bana left off in Lee's version, playing Bruce (that's the character's original name) Banner, a haunted scientist always on the move. Trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions get the better of him, Banner is hiding out in Brazil at the film's beginning. Working in a bottling plant and communicating via email with an unidentified professor who thinks he can help, Banner goes postal when General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and a small army turn up to grab him. Intent on developing whatever causes Banner's metamorphoses into a weapon, Ross brings along a quietly deranged soldier named Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who wants Ross to turn him into a supersoldier who can take on the Hulk. The adventure spreads to the U.S., where Banner hooks up with his old lover (and Ross' daughter), Betty (Liv Tyler), and where the Hulk takes on several armed assaults, including one in a pretty unusual location: a college campus. The film's action is impressive, though the computer-generated creature is disappointingly cartoonish, and a second monster turning up late in the movie looks even cheesier. Norton is largely wasted in the film--he's essentially a bridge between sequences where he disappears and the Hulk rampages around. As good an actor as he is, Norton doesn't have the charisma here to carry those scenes in which one waits impatiently for the real show to begin. --Tom Keogh

True to the spirit of the original October 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I enjoyed both Hulk movies but this one is superior in many ways. Thoroughly enjoyable and manages to combine the feel of the comics with various nods to the TV series thrown in. Most of all I appreciated the fact that it avoided all those frustrating moments when Hollywood insults the audience's intelligence. Its highly entertaining and has some good scripting in parts. Liv Tyler is stunning as always, but I do wish they'd found a slightly taller uber-soldier... My wife and I really enjoyed watching this on blu-ray. Recommended if you're a hulk fan.
A Great Nod To Everything Hulk October 12, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I think we can all safely say we've put that 2003 attempt at a Hulk movie out of our minds. Sure it was aweful, and made some of us sweat with sheer hatred at the boredom we suffered. When made aware of this film some simply sighed and said, "keep Ang Lee as far away as possible" he's a great director but isn't a comic book movie maker. This adaptation wasn't a sequel, nor was it a reinvention, it was simply a nudge in the right direction and had Louis Leterrier say this is how it should have been done.
Ed Norton now takes the role as Bruce Banner and is supported by the sexually appealing Liv Tyler. Yes, I said sexually appealing. The film starts off in Brazil where Bruce is hiding from the United States army and keeping the Hulk at bay. He works in a bottling plant and one day cuts himself leaving a drop of blood in one of the bottles, which makes an un-witting Stan Lee very ill indeed. By the way, off topic a little but can Stan Lee please stop with the cameos. Yeah, we get it Stan, you came up with the characters it doesn't mean you have to appear in every single Marvel movie ever made. Back on topic. The Army track Bruce through the sick Stan Lee and employ Emil Blonsky, a man who's very high ranking in the British Royal Marines and is entrusted to bring Banner back to the states. Things don't go too well and the Hulk is awakened and destroys the soldiers, escaping once again. Blonsky isn't happy and with the help of General Thadeus Ross, he is put in the super soldier program for round two with the Hulk. Meanwhile, Banner wants a cure for the Hulk so he seeks out Betty Ross to help him cure himself along with the help of the mysterious Mr. Blue.
I can't really go further into the story as it all comes together at the end in one excellent climax, but as you can see in the cover it involves Abomination in some way. In my review title I mention that this is a nod to everything Hulk and I wasn't kidding. Just the little things you tend to notice more if they're familiar to you. The nod to the TV show with Lou Ferrigno having a cameo and a nod to the games in the final scene, Hulk smashes a police car in two and uses the parts as make shift boxing gloves. Comparing it to the first movie, this has definitely taken more inspiration from the comics. Utilising comic villains and giving a possible hint to a villain in a future installment. The look and general feel of the film are very cartoon like but are still very cool.
Hopefully this, along with Iron Man will lead to much more comic inspired comic book movies being made. Sure, you can give us a comic movie with the main hero, but it's not really a comic movie if you take that character and change the world around them. A very enjoyable movie and worth the time, especially for the end fight sequence between Abomination and Hulk.
my opinion October 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
in my opinion this is a very, very good hulk movie.
more true to the comic book with more action and suspence than the 2003 one ever had. this is achieved by casting edward norton as bruce banner and having him be a cast away and fugitive from the start of the film so it never gets boring and one is not tired of watching the bruce banner bits. Lots of people put down how the hulk looks. i thought the cgi is amazing folks. he is smaller than in the other movie, and not as green going for an aproach more faithfull to the best selling " hulk grey" comic book, with more heart and emotion that succeeds in making you interested in bruce banner trying to fight this "disease" as much as you are interested in the hulk. the sweat rolls down the brows , the water makes the skin shine , the vains pop, you can even see his heart beat in the vains !!! what do people mean the cgi is not good?!!!
every artist in the comic books has a different aproach and so it is with films. The director is the artist and has done a damn good job putting together a film that never bores and keeps you interested in bruce and his alter ego alike. its a comic book adaptation with much suspence and human drama and closer to its roots than the 2003 long and boring version. enjoeyd it alot. sounds and looks top notch on blu

Fantasztikus alkotas! Nyugodtan lehetett volna hosszabb is a film, meg toebb akcio boven elfert volna de igy is nagyon szorakoztato! Ez a kedvenc filmem!
Great film, unfortunately the disc won't play in my Samsung BD-P1000 October 22, 2008 I couldn't watch this film on my machine because it freezes once you select the language on the options menu. This is a similar problem to what my friend had with his machine (BD-P1400) but we managed to get around that with a firmware update (not available for my machine) so I watched it at his place instead. The film is a way more faithful rendition of the comic character while paying a lot of homage to the TV show. It's better written and directed than the Ang Lee version that simply went off in the wrong direction about the Hulks family issues and figthing rabid dogs (what were they thinking?) This film is firmly set in the Marvel Universe like the Iron Man movie and is best watched back to back with Iron Man in order to get the full awareness of all the shared continuity aspects they've managed to deliver with both movies. The best thing about the new Hulk film is that the relationship between Betty and Bruce is far more alive and a feature, than in the Ang Lee film. The fact that the Hulk gets stronger the more he gets angry is also a feature in this movie that didn't exist in the last movie. We get a much needed and brutal fist fight at the end of the movie and also a much more driven Bruce Banner who is trying to rid himself of the beast within, unlike the Eric Bana version of Bruce in the Ang Lee flick that simply went with the flow. This is the Hulk movie that they should have made years ago, Buy it as long as you don't have a Samsung BD-P1000 and use your (2005) Ang Lee version as a drink mat. BTW Anyone having problems playing this film with a Samsung BD-P1400 can solve this by downloading the latest firmware for the player.
