Amazon.co.uk Review Truncated to a slim 11 episodes as a result of the writers' strike that was ongoing in America during its production, Heroes' second season nonetheless packs enough in to keep the momentum rolling on one of the most exciting Stateside shows of the moment. Heroes is, at heart, the comic book tale of a varied group of people, each with special powers that they struggle to come to terms with. With such powers, of course, come troubling foes and situations to face, and that proves to be the case here. So this time, we pick up four months after the events of the first series, and there's the small matter of the Shanti virus to contend with. This provides the main thrust for the series' story arc, and allows room for several interesting sub-plots to develop too. Yet while, in the world of Heroes, you suspect that this second series will never rank with the best, there's easily enough here to justify the asking price, and the show emerges easily with its reputation intact. Even when it's not at the top of its game, Heroes is exciting, interesting and polished entertainment. --Jon Foster

PURE CLASS May 21, 2008 8 out of 14 found this review helpful
Heroes is an absolutley fantastic and unique show. the whole take and storyline of 'super heroes' is brilliant. the first series was just amazing. Series 2 is excellent considering the circumstances. Sure, we could digress about the extra characters not being developed enough, or that we didn't see enough of some of the originals. Unfortunately that was out of the creators hands due to the high profile writers strike. Heroes along with many other shows have been affected by this, which in turn has caused the writers having to come up with as much creativity as possible in shortening already developed storylines. That taken into consideration, they shouldn't be penalised for having to condense what they had. OK, this would have been better if is was 20-24 episodes long - giving more character development for the new, and more screen time for the established. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, so PLEASE DON'T MISS OUT beacuase of that. It is still highly entertaining, and a must for every heroes fan. Well done for getting this out under the cricumstances, and I'm looking forward to the third series. Don't miss out just because of industry issues - a MUST for Heroes fans.
vol 2-GENERATIONS-STILL SLICK May 31, 2008 5 out of 12 found this review helpful
although slower in pace it is still a great show and i respect what it is trying to accomplish this year(with the strikes and all)...some new characters are entertaining while Maya is actually quite annoying. i have only seen the first seven eppies(to date)so i can't review the season as a whole BUT from what i have seen it is heading in the right direction...shame Ali Larter (Niki/Jessica)has been lacking in scenes as she is an interesting character...i still love Hiro and Matt is turning into a great character...Claire is also a very down to earth person whom people can still relate to and Noah Bennett remains unpredictable(is he bad or good?)...just want to know where they're going with Peters character and where the show is going in the future. going to pre-order soon
Very good buy May 28, 2008 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
Having seen all this series, all I can say is that Heroes is a must buy. More twists then before and it leaves us questioning what will happen in series three. The season is based on more characters and has alot to offer those who are Heroes fans. Don't listen to the poor ratings as this season is a cracker.
Volume 2 - Generations... What Is Everyone's Problem? July 5, 2008 3 out of 11 found this review helpful
I understand that people are annoyed by the Writer's Strike ripping our favourite show from 24 episodes to a mere 11. But what I don't understand is why this series has been slammed by critics. This series has a DIFFERENT feel to it than the first series - and I think that's good! It's great we can get such a variety through Tim Kring's use of volumes within seasons. All of these critics seem to be frightened of change. And if they are all so annoyed about the shortened series being "rubbish", then maybe they should direct their anger to the real source of this shortened series. The Writer's Strike. Anyway, I think the volume provides an interesting insight into the last generation of Heroes, the Company and the Shanti virus. The stories build up the themes and ideas well until episode eight, "Four Months Ago. This excellent episode reveals what happened in the four month gap between the end of "Genesis" (Season 1) and the beginning of "Generations" (Season 2). After this episode the remaining three are all action and culminate in a huge finale with a ridiculously amazing lead into the next volume, "Villains". I'm sure even the critics drooled when they saw the beginning of the new volume. I just hope Season 3 will shoot back up to the critics' standards. All in all, this was an excellent season and I will definetely be buying this. If you are reading this and wondering whether you should buy it or not, ignore the critics and just buy it because it is truly awesome!
Heroes Series 2 - Continuing brilliance. July 29, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Watching Heroes series 2 on tv was compelling in a subtler way to that of series 1. It built up to an amazing climax and, I think, used the ensemble cast extremely well. The DVD comes with brilliant extras, including an audio commentary for each and every episode with lead members of the cast and crew. It also comes with an alternative episode 11 and also multiple featurettes which are as revealing as we have come to expect from the first season set. I think this particular series of heroes works better on DVD where you can see the story unfold at a more rapid rate. Like the best novels, this series builds and builds and I think will prove paritcularly effective when series 3 airs and we see the various repercussions hinted at here. In short, it's a must buy.
